Kota Kinabalu: The two Sabah assemblymen charged with corruption on Monday said they will cooperate fully with the legal process to clear their names. In a joint statement, they stand by the principle that a person is innocent until proven guilty. Sindumin Assemblyman Dr Yusof, who is Qhazanah Sabah Chairman, said he would fight the charge in court. 'I want to make it clear that we are not guilty of this corruption case. We may have been humiliated by the media, but through this process we will clear our names in court. 'We have full confidence in the country's justice system,' he said. Tanjung Batu Assemblyman Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy said he will leave it to the Sabah Government to decide his future in office. Andi, also Kalabakan Member of Parliament, was responding to questions on whether he would take a leave of absence following the charge of receiving a RM150,000 bribe. 'We believe we can clear our names through the court process. 'I want to stress that I am not guilty. I will go through all court procedures while upholding the rule of law. 'I am confident the process will be transparent and fair. Together with Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob, we will prove our innocence. God willing, all will go smoothly,' he said. Andi said he would continue to serve his constituents as usual. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Sabah govt to let law take its course after 2 reps charged
Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor said he would consider the two assemblymen's posts in the state government carefully 'after all relevant information and reports have been received'. PETALING JAYA : Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor says his administration will let the law take its course after an assistant minister and a Gabungan Rakyat Sabah assemblyman were charged with corruption today. 'We respect the law, and we will let the legal process take its course. The GRS government will not interfere in any investigation or legal action against any of its government leaders,' he said in a statement. This morning, Sabah assistant industrial development and entrepreneurship minister Andi Suryady Bandy, and Sindumin assemblyman Dr Yusof Yacob were charged with receiving bribes related to mineral prospecting licence applications in the state. Yusof is also the chairman of Qhazanah Sabah Bhd, the state government's investment arm. Andi, the Tanjung Batu assemblyman from Umno, and Yusof, from Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, were charged with receiving RM200,000 and RM150,000 in bribes, respectively. Businessman Albert Tei was charged with bribing them. All three claimed trial. Following the court charges, Hajiji said he would consider Andi and Yusof's respective posts in the state government carefully 'after all relevant information and reports have been received'. The scandal surfaced last year following the leak of several videos purportedly showing discussions involving bribery and misconduct related to mineral exploration projects in Sabah.

Sabah graft probe: Sindumin assemblyman Yusof Yacob seen at MACC HQ
KOTA KINABALU: Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob was seen at the Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters today. Yusof, who is also Qhazanah Sabah chairman, was reportedly summoned to give a statement. According to sources, he arrived at the Sabah MACC office at the Federal Government Administrative Complex here around 8.45am. It is understood that Dr Yusof is one of two assemblymen summoned to provide statements today. However, the second individual has yet to appear. The MACC has not disclosed their names. Earlier, MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki s aid three people — including two assemblymen — are expected to be charged at the Kota Kinabalu Corruption Court by the end of this month. He said several individuals have already been identified and that prosecution would proceed soon under the probe dubbed Op Adun. Previously, several video recordings allegedly featuring conversations about corruption between businessmen and Sabah assemblymen — linked to mineral mining issues in the state — went viral. Following that, the MACC launched a thorough investigation, including digital forensic analysis of the clips.
