Yamaha's Quartararo pips Ducatis to clinch Dutch Grand Prix pole
Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo claimed his fourth pole position of the season in qualifying at the Dutch Grand Prix on Saturday while Ducati's MotoGP championship leader Marc Marquez will start on the second row. Quartararo is joined on the front row by Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia and Gresini Racing's Alex Marquez while Marc was only fourth fastest at Assen, where he crashed twice in practice on a bruising Friday. Marc leads brother Alex by 40 points heading into the sprint while Bagnaia, third in the championship, is 110 points behind. But the session belonged to Quartararo who clocked one minute and 30.651 seconds to claim his 20th MotoGP pole. 'The goal is to try to make a great start, great laps in the sprint and see a little bit how it's going on,' Quartararo said. 'I love this track ... So hopefully we can turn this pole position into a great result on Saturday and on Sunday.' As expected, it was the Ducati machines of the Marquez brothers and Bagnaia who traded fastest laps early in the session but Quartararo laid down the gauntlet when he clocked one minute and 31.047 seconds. Alex and Marc then broke the one minute and 31 seconds barrier but Quartararo and Bagnaia responded by going faster to take the top two spots. A desperate Marc pushed too hard on his final lap and went off track, settling for fourth-fastest, marking only the second time he is off the front row on the red Ducati, while Alex was livid with himself when he could not set a faster lap. Bagnaia has won at Assen in the last three years and the Italian said he was happy with the feeling on the bike after struggling early in the season, with the twice champion claiming only one victory in the first nine rounds. 'I'm very happy. It's the best weekend so far this season ... Surely this afternoon will be tough but we need to start well, set our pace and see if I can win,' Bagnaia said. Marc will have Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi and VR46 Racing's Franco Morbidelli for company on the second row.

PLAY airlines stopping Stewart airport service. When last Iceland flights will take off
Stewart International Airport may lose its only direct flight to Europe this fall. PLAY airlines, an Icelandic operator, has provided a low-cost, direct route from Stewart airport to Reykjavik since 2022. This route also serves as a connecting link to several major cities in Europe. The announcement by PLAY said it planned on 'discontinuing the less successful parts of the business—namely, U.S. flights and connecting services' as part of a takeover bid by the two largest shareholders. 'It's a loss for the area,' said Paul Quartararo, who is chairman of the Stewart Airport Advisory Commission. 'Stewart Airport is being underutilized.' PLAY's announcement indicated flights would end by October 2025. As of June 18, no flights are available from Stewart on PLAY's website after Sept. 1. More: Five golf courses worth booking a tee time in the mid-Hudson Valley Last year — recorded as the busiest year — there were 145.9 million passengers at the four Port Authority airports: John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia, Stewart and Newark. Stewart accounted for 277,000 passengers, a 9% increase over the prior year, but Quartararo said the Port Authority, Federal Aviation Administration and the state were not doing enough to route traffic to Stewart, especially amid congestion and a personnel shortage. Stewart had recently become more accessible due to its New York State Thruway access. "New York Stewart remains an attractive option with great potential for new and existing carriers to add or expand domestic and international service," Port Authority Aviation Director Sarah McKeon said in a statement. "The Port Authority is fully committed to growing air service at SWF and continues to actively engage with airline partners to pursue new opportunities and enhance regional connectivity.' PLAY's U.S. media office declined to confirm at what stage the takeover offer stood and whether there existed any provisions that could thwart or veto the bid. If the proposal goes through, all U.S. flights, including Stewart, Boston Logan, and Baltimore's Washington International, will end by October 2025. Fabio Quartararo injures shoulder in practice crash at MotoGP's Italian GP
MotoGP world champion Fabio Quartararo has been taken to hospital following a big accident during the first official practice session at this weekend's Italian Grand Prix. The Yamaha rider went down after just 10 minutes as the front of the bike got away from the Frenchman heading into the fast left-right sequence at Turn 4 in Mugello. Advertisement Quartararo's left shoulder hit the ground hard before he continued to slide into the gravel along with the bike. The 2021 world champion spent a prolonged period lying in the gravel trap, clutching his left shoulder which had been dislocated. Quartararo then had his shoulder popped back into place on the spot. It was clear that he was in pain, but he was adamant about getting back to the garage to continue the session, even arguing with the marshals about the quickest way to recover his Yamaha. After returning to the pits, Quartararo was examined by Angel Charte, the championship's medical director, who performed an initial assessment. Quartararo was then given an anti-inflammatory so he could return to the track. Fabio Quartararo, Yamaha Factory Racing Fabio Quartararo, Yamaha Factory Racing 'In the crash, Fabio dislocated his left shoulder, something that has happened to him before. He popped it back into place himself, as he's done on other occasions,' Charte commented after the session. Advertisement 'I allowed him to go back out, but now we're sending him to a hospital in Florence to get an MRI scan on his left shoulder." Despite the discomfort, Quartararo finished the session in fifth which moved him directly into Q2 for Saturday's qualifying. His participation for the rest of the weekend, however, depends on him receiving the all-clear from the hospital.
