George Lucas, father of 'Star Wars,' to head panel at San Diego Comic-Con
George Lucas, the mastermind behind "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" will make his first ever San Diego Comic-Con appearance this summer. Lucas will sit on a panel alongside director Guillermo del Toro and artist Doug Chiang at San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday, July 27. The trio will discuss illustrated storytelling and offer a sneak peek of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, according to the San Diego Comic-Con website. The panel will be moderated by musician and actress Queen Latifah. David Glanzer, San Diego Comic-Con chief communications and strategy officer, said the convention is thrilled to host Lucas this month. "Nearly five decades ago, 'Star Wars' made one of its earliest public appearances at our convention, along with a booth featuring Howard Chaykin's now legendary 'Star Wars' poster as a promotional item," Glanzer said in a news release. "Now, to have Mr. Lucas return – this time to debut the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art – is a true full-circle moment. His lifelong dedication to visual storytelling and world-building resonates deeply with us and our community, and the museum's mission to celebrate narrative art in all its forms perfectly reflects what Comic-Con has championed from the very beginning." "Star Wars" made its San Diego Comic-Con debut in 1976, when comic book artists Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin sports shaggy hair and bell bottoms, told a less-than-packed crowd about the new movie. The panel was the second to last event of the entire convention. Roy Thomas and Howard Chakin tell a less than packed audience about a film called Star Wars at @Comic_Con in 1976. #ThrowbackThursday #SDCC — Star Wars (@starwars) July 20, 2017 When will George Lucas be at San Diego Comic-Con? The filmmaker will appear on the "Sneak Peek: Lucas Museum of Narrative Art" panel between 11 a.m. and noon PT on Sunday, July 27. Who can attend George Lucas' panel at San Diego Comic-Con? San Diego Comic-Con badge-holders may attend any panel at the convention. Badges for this year's convention are sold out. Will fans be able to meet George Lucas at San Diego Comic-Con? San Diego Comic-Con, unlike other comic conventions, does not host meet-and-greet experiences. The convention does not have any scheduled events for Lucas to meet one-on-one with attendees. Can you watch George Lucas' panel at home? San Diego Comic-Con does not livestream its panels, but audience members may share photos and videos during and after the panel. Fans hope for something bigger The San Diego Comic-Con website states that the panel will discuss illustrative storytelling and the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, but "Star Wars" superfans are hoping Lucas' appearance may be part of a bigger announcement. "He's gotta be dropping some huge news! Surely," one TikTok user commented on Dino Joe Reviews' video outlining the panel. "Apparently he's there to talk about his museum that's open, which is super cool, but there's gotta be more than that, right? Maybe we're finally getting our Midi-chlorian movie," TikTok user I Am Jessica says with a laugh in a video. In "Star Wars," midi-chlorians are microscopic lifeforms that reside in the cells of all living life forms, according to "Star Wars" blog Wookieepedia. The Force speaks through midi-chlorians and those with more midi-chlorians are able to better tap into The Force. Anakin Skywalker possessed the highest known count of midi-chlorians, even surpassing Yoda. "Imagine being in the same room as this guy as he discusses about the future of 'Star Wars.' Oh my gosh, that's like a once in a lifetime thing, I think," TikTok user Fry4guy said in a video. What is the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art? Expected to open in 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art was co-founded by Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson. The 300,000-square-foot, spaceship-like museum will sit on 11 acres in Los Angeles's Exposition Park. The five-story museum, designed by Ma Yansong, will feature galleries, two movie theaters and spaces for educational programming, retail, dining and events. Ground was broken on the museum in March 2018. Greta Cross is a national trending reporter at USA TODAY. Story idea? The 2025 San Diego Comic-Con Panels We're Most Excited About
That time is almost upon is. San Diego Comic-Con 2025 is almost here, and next week at this time, io9 will be among the 100,000-plus fans descending on San Diego for four days of pop culture excitement. All the best movies, TV, comics, games, toys, anime, you name it, and it'll be at Comic-Con. Which is both the best and worst thing about the convention. The worst thing is that there's so much going on, there's no way you could come close to seeing or doing everything you want to. The best thing, however, is that you can very easily tailor your entire experience to only the things that make you happy. For us, that's in large part major movies and TV shows. And while Marvel Studios won't be gracing Hall H this year, several other films and shows are doing just that, along with DC Studios and more. So what's cool? What's worth looking forward to? Here are 15 panels we're most looking forward to at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. On the surface this one seems pretty basic. A tease of a museum? Who cares, right? Well, it's George Lucas' museum. About movies. And he's on the panel, making his first trip to Comic-Con ever. And Guillermo del Toro is on the panel. And Doug Chiang. And Queen Latifah is moderating. Um, wow, what a package. When and where: Sunday, July 27, 11 a.m. PT, Hall H First it was canceled. Then it came back. And now, for the first time ever, the general public is going to see what all the fuss is about. We cannot wait. When and where: Saturday, July 26, 10 a.m. PT, Hall H In space, no one can hear you scream. But you can be damn sure 6,000 people in Hall H are going to be screaming when they get to see the first episode of the new FX Alien show along with the whole cast. When and where: Friday, July 25, 1:25 p.m. PT, Hall H With Superman now in theaters, it's time for DC Studios president James Gunn to move on to his next thing. And that next thing is Peacemaker. The character, of course, has a brief cameo in the new film, but this will be the full unveiling of how season two of the John Cena show will tie into this new DC Universe. When and where: Saturday, July 26, 3:30 p.m. PT, Hall H Disney isn't sending Marvel or Star Wars to Comic-Con this year, but they're sending two of the biggest sci-fi films it's had in recent years. First up, Predator Badlands, a new live-action film from Prey and Killer of Killers director Dan Trachtenberg. If we hadn't already seen a teaser trailer, this would be higher on the list. But we're guessing we'll see much, much more than that in Hall H. When and where: Friday, July 25, 4:15 p.m. PT, Hall H Disney is also bringing Tron back to Comic-Con. The long-awaited follow-up to Tron Legacy (which was famously first announced at Comic-Con) also already has a teaser trailer, so we aren't sure what else we'll see or learn. But, either way, we're pumped to return to the Grid. When and where: Friday, July 25, 5:30 p.m. PT, Hall H The video game adaptation about killer robots who live in an old arcade is back, and Blumhouse will unveil what it has in store for the first time at Comic-Con. When and where: Thursday, July 24, 4:15 p.m. PT, Hall H One of, if not the, most anticipated sci-fi films coming in the next year, Project Hail Mary is going to be awesome. We think that because we saw a very, very long trailer only a few short weeks ago. What else could possibly be on tap beyond that, especially with the movie not out till next year? That uncertainty is the only reason why this panel in particular, for such a big movie, is further down on this list. But also, it has Ryan Gosling, Andy Weir, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, so what are we even thinking? When and where: Saturday, July 26, 2:15 p.m. PT, Hall H We thought this updated remake of the gross-out Troma cult classic may never see the light of day. But it's coming to theaters in August, and it's ready to burst out into the world at Comic-Con. When and where: Thursday, July 24, 5:30 p.m. PT, Hall H From the director of multiple Hunger Games sequels comes this brand-new Stephen King adaptation, which felt like a surprise when it was announced for Comic-Con. But it does star Mark Hamill and an all-star cast of young actors who all must keep walking until only one is left alive. When and where: Friday, July 25, 3 p.m. PT, Hall H The long-awaited, highly anticipated prequel series to the Stephen King films about a killer clown is finally coming out. And despite its very awkward panel time, we think it's going to be one of the coolest shows released this fall. When and where: Saturday, July 26, 9:15 p.m. PT, Room 6BCF Comic-Con might be closing with George Lucas and Guillermo del Toro, but it's opening with another pair of directing legends. Directors Rob Reiner (Stand By Me, The Princess Bride) and Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters) will have a chat about their respective careers. When and where: Thursday, July 24, 2:45 p.m. PT, Hall H Marvel Studios might not be bringing any new films or shows to Comic-Con, but one of its key creatives, head of visual development Ryan Meinerding, will join with comics editor-in-chief C. B. Cebulski to discuss some recent adaptations, including Fantastic Four: First Steps. When and where: Saturday, July 26, 3 p.m. PT, Room 6A It might not be live action, but a new Batman movie is debuting footage at Comic-Con. This WB animated film that translates to 'Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires.' When and where: Thursday, July 24, 3:30 p.m. PT, Room 6BCF To be honest, I've never seen this Adult Swim show, but fellow io9 reporter Sabina Graves has. In fact, she's moderating this one, so it had to make the list. When and where: Friday, July 25, 2 p.m. PT, Indigo Ballroom Want more io9 news? Check out when to expect the latest Marvel, Star Wars, and Star Trek releases, what's next for the DC Universe on film and TV, and everything you need to know about the future of Doctor Who.

Comic-Con 2025 Schedule Highlights: Comic-Con 2025 Schedule Highlights: Breakdown of Movie and TV Panels — GeekTyrant
San Diego Comic-Con has dropped its 2025 schedule, and while Marvel and DC are sitting this year out in terms of major panels, there's no shortage of reasons for fans to flock to Hall H. The convention runs July 24–27, and the lineup includes everything from long-awaited franchise updates to first looks at ambitious new projects. But the biggest headline? George Lucas is finally coming to Comic-Con. For the first time in the event's history, the creator of Star Wars will step onto the Comic-Con stage. Lucas will give fans a preview of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, which is set to open in Los Angeles in 2026. Joining him in Hall H will be Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, acclaimed visual designer Doug Chiang, and moderator Queen Latifah. 'We are beyond thrilled to welcome George Lucas to Comic-Con for the very first time,' said Comic-Con's chief of communications and strategy David Glanzer in a statement. 'Nearly five decades ago, 'Star Wars' made one of its earliest public appearances at our convention, along with a booth featuring Howard Chaykin's now legendary 'Star Wars' poster as a promotional item. 'Now, to have Mr. Lucas return — this time to debut the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art — is a true full-circle moment. His lifelong dedication to visual storytelling and world-building resonates deeply with us and our community, and the museum's mission to celebrate narrative art in all its forms perfectly reflects what Comic-Con has championed from the very beginning.' That single panel alone makes this a historic year, but it's far from the only major draw. On the film side, Hall H will host first looks at some highly anticipated projects, including: Tron: Ares Project Hail Mary Predator: Badlands Five Nights at Freddy's 2 Stephen King's The Long Walk The wild reimagining of The Toxic Avenger And the long-shelved Coyote vs. Acme, now saved and released by Ketchup Entertainment. George Lucas is heading to Comic-Con for the first time
Filmmaker George Lucas, whose Star Wars movies helped create many of the ideas of modern fandoms, is coming to San Diego Comic-Con for his first-ever panel. Lucas, according to The Hollywood Reporter, will be joined by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, and artist and Star Wars prequels production designer Doug Chiang for a panel that will explore the power of illustrated story and offer a sneak peek at the new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. Queen Latifah, the Grammy, Emmy, and Golden Globe-winning actress and recording artist, will moderate the panel. The panel of creators will be talking about the role of narrative art in society. "We are beyond thrilled to welcome George Lucas to Comic-Con for the very first time," said David Glanzer, chief communications and strategy officer of Comic-Con. "Nearly five decades ago, Star Wars made one of its earliest public appearances at our convention, along with a booth featuring Howard Chaykin's now legendary Star Wars poster as a promotional item," according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Now, to have Mr. Lucas return, this time to debut the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, is a true full-circle moment. His lifelong dedication to visual storytelling and world-building resonates deeply with us and our community, and the museum's mission to celebrate narrative art in all its forms perfectly reflects what Comic-Con has championed from the very beginning." Star Wars has been tied to Comic Con since its earliest days. The Lucas Museum is dedicated to illustrated storytelling across time, cultures, and media and its collection will include works by Norman Rockwell, Kadir Nelson, Jessie Willcox Smith, NC Wyeth, Beatrix Potter, Judy Baca, Frida Kahlo, and Maxfield Parrish. George Lucas is Coming To Coming to San Diego Comic-Con For The First Ime Ever! — GeekTyrant
After decades of shaping pop culture from afar, George Lucas is finally stepping into Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con! The creator of Star Wars , the father of fandom and pop culture, and one of the reasons Comic-Con exists in the first place, is making his first-ever appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. It's happening on Sunday, July 27, so if you thought you would skip out early that day, think again. According to Variety, Lucas is showing up to promote the long-in-the-works Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, which opens in 2026 in Los Angeles. The museum has been a passion project of his for years, and now it's getting its proper debut, at Nerd Mecca, where it belongs. The building itself looks like a spaceship, so yes, even the architecture feels like a deep cut from a galaxy far, far away. Joining him on stage will be Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro ( Frankenstein ), legendary Star Wars concept artist and designer Doug Chiang, and, for some reason, Queen Latifah is the panel's moderator. The panel is titled 'Sneak Peek of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art,' this is the official panel description: 'Sneak Peek of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art — Legendary filmmaker George Lucas will make an appearance alongside Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro and Academy Award-winning artist Doug Chiang. 'The panel, moderated by Queen Latifah, will discuss the power of illustrated stories and the role of narrative art in society. From ancient cave drawings and hieroglyphics to paintings, murals, illustrations, comics, digital media, and sculptures, this panel will delve into the universal language of illustrated storytelling. (Hall H)' David Glanzer, Chief of Communications and Strategy for Comic-Con, summed up the moment best: 'We are beyond thrilled to welcome George Lucas to Comic-Con for the very first time. Nearly five decades ago, Star Wars made one of its earliest public appearances at our convention, along with a booth featuring Howard Chaykin's now legendary Star Wars poster as a promotional item. 'Now, to have Mr. Lucas return—this time to debut the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art—is a true full-circle moment. His lifelong dedication to visual storytelling and world-building resonates deeply with us and our community, and the museum's mission to celebrate narrative art in all its forms perfectly reflects what Comic-Con has championed from the very beginning.' If you're thinking this sounds like a Hall H unicorn, yeah, it is. It's history-in-the-making. Since it's scheduled for Sunday, the final day of the con, you might want to prepare for an overnight campout with fellow fans who thought they'd seen it all... until now.
