Uma Thurman returns to the action genre in Netflix's The Old Guard 2
Article content From the vengeful Bride in Kill Bill to the enigmatic Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction, Uma Thurman has carved an indelible niche in cinematic history, particularly within the action genre. Her collaborations with acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino not only solidified her status as a pop culture icon but also showcased her remarkable ability to blend intense physicality with dramatic depth. Article content Article content After a 21-year hiatus from the action genre, Thurman makes a highly anticipated return in The Old Guard 2, which is now streaming on Netflix. In this eagerly awaited sequel, Andy (Charlize Theron) and her team of immortal warriors face a new enemy, Discord (Thurman), one of the oldest immortals who threatens their existence along with the rest of the world. Directed by Victoria Mahoney, the film also stars KiKi Layne, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Henry Golding, Vân Veronica Ngô, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli. Article content This comeback, which Thurman charmingly described as 'tickling her pink,' sees her embracing the challenge of new physically demanding roles. The Boston-born actor is celebrated for injecting humanity into even her most dangerous characters – a trait she consciously brought to the 'tortured and twisted' antagonist Discord. In this exciting new phase of her career, she has a newfound sense of calm, a tranquility she confesses she'd never experienced before. Her return isn't just a nostalgic echo of past glories, it's also a reminder of her enduring talent. Article content Article content I was excited. I wish I had had more time to practice. It just tickled me pink having kind of not doing any rehashing of my Kill Bill moments and then just tossing them to Charlize. in this finale of her great action epic work. So, it really was fun. And it was kind of perfect because it was challenging, and it was exciting. And, also, she had all the heavy lifting, and I got to see her incredible working style. It was really wonderful. Article content Director Victoria Mahoney said that you became a vital part of shaping Discord's arc and preventing this from being a tropey antagonist. What did you wanna bring to Discord? Article content I wanted to bring to Discord the same thing I always try to bring to characters, which is humanity. She's kind of tortured and twisted and dangerous, but she's coming at it from a slightly broken but passionate once-human heart. What I liked about the first film is that all of the characters were really quite relatable, less so the villain. And I thought in this case that she would be serving the piece best if she was more relatable as a sort of tortured human.

Brad Pitt's F1 gamble: does Hollywood's golden boy still impress us much?
T hroughout the Nineties and Noughties Brad Pitt was the go-to movie star — the surefire answer if there were ever a Family Fortunes question that asked 100 people to name a famous actor: 'Our survey says … Brad Pitt!' Behind him came George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp. This leading-man sex appeal was debuted in 1991 when Pitt appeared topless in a cowboy hat in Thelma & Louise — sparkling blue eyes, devilish grin, effortless cool. He went on to star in a string of varied Nineties hits, cementing his status as the apex celebrity. He was the only actor who could play Tyler Durden in Fight Club, the Übermensch that every man aspired to be. But times change. It has been six years since Pitt's last undeniably great film, Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, and even that was an outlier amid a run of expensive war movies that few remember. At times in the past decade the 61-year-old Pitt has felt like a star who became a supernova — an impression not helped by a lengthy divorce from Angelina Jolie, whose lawyers accused the actor of assaulting her and two of their children. Pitt denies the allegations.

‘Pulp Fiction' Returns To No. 1 Decades After Its Release
The Pulp Fiction soundtrack rockets back to No. 1 on the U.K.'s Official Soundtrack Albums chart, ... More marking just its second time at the top in 1,166 weeks. Director Quentin Tarantino standing by a poster for his film 'Pulp Fiction', London, United Kingdom, 1994. (Photo by) The world is waiting for Quentin Tarantino to make his tenth — and according to him, final — movie. There's no timeline yet for such a project, and the celebrated director and screenwriter has other efforts in the works. As fans of the cinephile await what's coming next from the two-time Oscar winner, one of his greatest successes in the music world becomes a smash hit once again. The Pulp Fiction Soundtrack Hits No. 1 Again The Pulp Fiction soundtrack is a bestseller once more in the United Kingdom this week. The decades-old release rockets from No. 21 to No. 1 on the Official Soundtrack Albums chart. Pulp Fiction has now spent 1,166 weeks on the Official Soundtrack Albums chart, making it one of the most successful releases connected to a film of all time in the country. Somehow, throughout all that time, only two of those frames have been at No. 1. The project originally reached the summit in December 2021, after dozens of stays inside the top 10. Now, it returns to the peak position for just the second time ever. Pulp Fiction Returns as it Rises The same soundtrack also rebounds onto one other tally in the U.K. Pulp Fiction returns at No. 57 on the Official Compilations chart. Unlike on the soundtrack-only ranking, however, Pulp Fiction has not reached No. 1 on the compilations list. Instead, it has thus far peaked at No. 5 and has spent 126 weeks on the tally. The Legacy of the Pulp Fiction Soundtrack Tarantino is not credited as an artist on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, but he was the album's producer, as he likes to have a hand in every aspect of his movies. The project was hugely successful and influential, as it helped reinvigorate interest in old-school American rock, surf music, and other genres. Throughout the years, the soundtrack has been certified triple platinum in the U.K. for moving almost one million units. Kill Bill: Volume 1 Joins Pulp Fiction At the same time that Pulp Fiction becomes a chart-topper again, another Tarantino project can be found on the same ranking. Kill Bill: Volume 1, another hugely popular musical release tied to a hit movie of his, returns to the Official Soundtrack Albums list at No. 33.

‘Stealing Pulp Fiction' Review: A Lowbrow Homage
Quentin Tarantino's first two films, 'Reservoir Dogs' and 'Pulp Fiction,' had a galvanic effect not just on American independent film but movies the world over. From 1995 on, you couldn't go to a film festival without tripping over several 'Dogs' or 'Pulp' impersonations, none of them a patch on the real thing. To be fair, one or two of the perpetrators of such items, Joe Carnahan to name a noteworthy example, grew into makers of more distinctive and enjoyable work. But the counterfeiters were, and mostly remained, a drag. 'Stealing Pulp Fiction' is an overt Tarantino homage. Written and directed by Danny Turkiewicz, it concerns a few Tarantino-obsessed cinephiles who believe they can make a fortune by kidnapping the director's personal print of his film and holding it for ransom. A witless duo, played by Jon Rudnitsky and Karan Soni, enlist a snarky female pal who objects to Tarantino on misogyny and thievery grounds; they also reel in the therapist of Rudnitsky's character. These two are played by Cazzie David and Jason Alexander, but their high-octane comedic talents elevate the proceedings not a whit. Said proceedings eventually involve Tarantino himself, played by a gentleman named Seager Tennis, who, to paraphrase James Thurber, looks as much like Quentin Tarantino as Calvin Coolidge does the MGM lion. Turkiewicz apes Tarantino's great film by giving chapter titles to its sections and setting multiple scenes in a diner. These sequences don't resemble 'Pulp Fiction' so much as they do television ads for Chili's — a locale where you'll have a better time than watching this utterly misbegotten movie. Stealing Pulp FictionNot rated. Running time: 1 hour 18 minutes. In theaters.

Brad Pitt to reprise his role from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in new film for Netflix, Entertainment News
Brad Pitt has confirmed he will be reprising his role as Cliff Booth from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in a new film for Netflix. The 61-year-old actor starred as Cliff — the stuntman for Leonardo DiCaprio's alter ego, faded Western star Rick Dalton — in Quentin Tarantino's 2019 comedy-drama which is set in Los Angeles in 1969 as the Manson Family murders loom. Brad will be back for the new movie which has been written by Quentin but will be directed by Zodiac filmmaker David Fincher. Speaking to Deadline at the premiere for his latest movie F1, Brad said: "This is something Quentin Tarantino wrote. It's an episode, not really a sequel, of the character from Once Upon a Time. "He didn't want to direct it at this point, so our friend David Fincher stepped in. We're gonna start in July, it's gonna be really fun." The Adventures of Cliff Booth will have a reputed US$200 million (S$255 million) budget, making it one of the most expensive streaming original movies ever made. New cast members include Elizabeth Debicki, Carla Gugino, Scott Caan and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Quentin, 62, will earn US$20 million for writing the script, which is believed to be based on his The Movie Critic script — a project he once teased as being his final film before he shelved it. The project is the first official sequel to one of his original movies. The movie also sees a reunion between Brad and David, 62, who previously collaborated on acclaimed films Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. [[nid:719478]]
