The BBC stalwart called time on her broadcasting career in 2023 having been the face of the network's Wimbledon and Queen's coverage for three decades. Barker made a return to Centre Court last summer to interview Andy Murray on his last appearance at Wimbledon. And this year she featured in a social media video to promote the British Grand Slam. Despite her brief appearances on screen, Barker has ruled out a permanent return to broadcasting. She rejected the idea, but admitted that she received an early approach from Sky Sports. The sport broadcasting giant took over the main WTA and ATP Tour rights from Amazon Prime in 2024 and now covers some of the biggest events. The 69-year-old went on to reveal that she turned down the offer. JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS It is understood that a formal offer was not made to Barker following her initial response. Phil Tufnell gives honest five-word response when asked about Question of Sport axe EXCLUSIVE: Phil Tufnell was a staple figure on British television throughout his time on A Question of Sport up until the day the BBC shook up the show Phil Tufnell was on A Question of Sport for 13 years (Image: PA ) Phil Tufnell has admitted that he was not surprised when the BBC decided to part with himself, Sue Barker and Matt Dawson on A Question of Sport. Tufnell, 59, had been a team captain on the panel show since 2007 until he was let go by the BBC as part of a reshuffle in 2020. The England cricket legend was one of the most recognisable figures on the show, until he made way for Paddy McGuinness, hockey star Sam Quek and rugby ace Ugo Monye. When the new format of the show was shelved in 2023, ex-BBC Football Focus presenter Dan Walker suggested the Beeb may have, "alienated their core audience while searching for a new one" when they decided to axe Tufnell and his show mates. Barker was also upset with the way the decision was handled. Tufnell held no resentment when he was informed about his departure. Speaking at the launch of The Overlap and Betfair's Stick to Cricket show, Tufnell looked back on the decision and said: "You can't do things forever." He added: " They had been talking about it and what have you. I wasn't really involved in it. We'd all been doing it for a while. Well, more than a while, around 13 or 14 years I'd been captain. "You can't do things forever. They fancied a bit of a refresh. We were just sort of like, 'Okay, well, there you go. Thanks very much for the memories. I thoroughly enjoyed every single show. Loved every minute of it.' Article continues below "Now we're doing the theatre show. It's not called a Question of Sport, of course. We're all good friends, all got a very similar sense of humour. We all get on very well, so it's great to be back recreating it a little bit. Tufnell had been on the show for 13 years when he was told he would be leaving in 2020 (Image: BBC ) "Obviously, you think to yourself, 'Oh crikey' but we wished everyone the best. It was part of our lives.' In a statement released at the time, the BBC said: "We would like to thank Sue for her enormous contribution as the show's longest reigning host over the last 24 years, and Matt and Phil for their excellent team captaincy over 16 and 12 years respectively. "Together they have ensured A Question of Sport remains a firm favourite with the BBC One audience. Sue, Matt and Phil's final series will be broadcast next year." Tufnell will be a guest on the Stick to Cricket podcast, which launches very soon (Image: Betfair/Stick to Cricket podcast ) When the show was shelved in 2023, a BBC spokesman appeared to leave the door ajar for a future reboot, claiming the decision was, "not the final whistle." When asked if he thinks the show may return in the future, potentially with himself, Barker and Dawson's involvement, Tufnell added: " I hope it does come back. "It was part of my childhood. It had been going for 55 years, a long time. I loved the show when I was on it and I loved it as a boy. It was one of those little half an hours that you sat round with your family. "Hopefully, it comes back. I'd be delighted to sit down and watch it. Whether we do it again, I'm not so sure. But, we've had our time haven't we?" I really can't see it but I suppose you don't know until you try.' He's been invisible most of the season. Steve Clarke needs to step down gracefully and let someone with an alternative game plan take over. 'He's not simply getting the best out of an average group of players. Gabby Logan pitches new show to BBC after famous programme axed The new Match of the Day host believes her proposed new show 'would be a winner' Logan has pitched a new show to the BBC Gabby Logan says she has repeatedly pitched a new TV show to BBC bosses, claiming it is "what people want" following the axing of Question of Sport after 50 years in 2023. The Welsh presenter is one of the most recognisable and well-liked faces on television and has no shortage of irons in the fire, particularly after being named as one of the new hosts of Match of the Day earlier this year. With Gary Lineker leaving his role as presenter of the iconic football show at the end of the season, Logan will take up the baton alongside Mark Chapman and Kelly Cates. That new job comes in addition to Logan being the face of the BBC's Six Nations coverage, as well as her other live presenting roles for events like the FIFA World Cup, Olympic Games and London Marathon. But despite having plenty of roles in front of the camera, Logan says she has been trying "for ages" to convince the BBC to get behind a new sports show that she believes would be a big hit with viewers. Appearing on former Welsh rugby star Dan Biggar and behavioural science expert Daniel Ross' podcast A Load of BS on Sport, the 52-year-old said she thinks there is a gap in the market for a Mastermind-style show that is focused around sport. "I've been pitching... I mean I might as well as say it now on a podcast, but I've been saying for ages to the BBC that they should have a Mastermind of sport," said Logan. Article continues below "The problem with Question of Sport is it became trying to be like A League of Their Own and it tried to kind of do all these different things. "What people want is somebody sat in a chair answering questions about sport, like Mastermind. "That's the easiest format in the world isn't it?," she continued. "You'd have your specialist subject, so it could be 'Newcastle United from 1992 to present day' or whatever it is. "Then [you'd have] your general knowledge round, where you get everything, which would really sort the wheat from the chaff. "I think that would be a winner, I'd tune in, I'd watch that." Logan's admission came after she went head-to-head with Biggar in a quickfire quiz on Welsh sport, in which she was triumphant. Article continues below However, she wasn't overly impressed by the quiz, which had been put together by Ross ahead of the podcast recording. "I feel like that hasn't got great legs," the BBC presenter joked. "I feel like that could go the way of Flockstars [the ITV celebrity sheep-herding show she presented that got cancelled after one series] that quiz. "I don't think I'd pitch it just yet to a major TV company!".
