Collector inspects Hogenakkal
The inflow into Hogenakkal was 78,000 cusecs on Saturday, with the Cauvery continuing to flow in spate here. The inflow that was 88,000 cusecs on Friday fell to 78,000 cusecs on Saturday morning. The rise in the inflow into Hogenakkal increased over the last two days, with the outflow from Kabini and Krishnaraja Sagar reservoirs increased. In its wake, Collector R. Sadheesh inspected Hogenakkal and assessed the safety protocols. Ban on coracle operations and bathing will remain in place until further orders, according to the administration. The Collector during his inspection assessed the safety measures undertaken to prevent breach, if the water level increased further. Earlier, Mr. Sadheesh also participated in a pollution control board-organised awareness campaign to ban single-use plastics in the tourist spot.

Dedicated control room for higher education set up in Dharmapuri
A special control room has been set up at the office of the Chief Education Officer to ensure cent percent higher education enrolment of students, who have passed out of Plus Two in 2023-24 and 2024-25, according to the district administration. Similarly, students who have not managed to clear Classes 11 and 12 will be absorbed into ITI courses, District Collector R. Sadheesh said. He was speaking to students interacting with them on higher education here. Mr. Sadheesh also visited the homes of students at Bharathiyar Nagar in Nallampalli and counselled students on higher education under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme. Interacting with the students, Collector Sadheesh said that all efforts were being made to create enabling conditions starting with the right guidance to choose the right course, to push students to pursue higher education. In order to increase the gross enrolment ratio in higher education among students who had passed out of Class XII in 2023-24 and 2024-25, Kalloori Kanavu, the counselling programme on higher education courses, was organised here in Dharmapuri and Harur last month. Books distributed to library Earlier, the newly instituted district library at the Adiyaman Kottam campus grew richer by ₹20,000 worth of books given by the Tamil Nadu Teachers' Association here. The books were issued to the library on their behalf by Collector Sadheesh.

7th Minor Irrigation Census to begin in Dharmapuri in June
The 7th Minor irrigation Census is scheduled to begin in June under the Rationalisation of Minor Irrigation Scheme (RMIS). Earlier, a training workshop for village administrative officers (VAO) for village panchayats, and local body administration officials of town panchayats and municipalities was chaired by Collector R. Sadheesh. The Minor irrigation Census proposes to cover irrigation sources that irrigate less than 2,000 ha of land that include water sources on farm lands that sustain agriculture. The Census enumerates water sources individually or jointly owned by farmers that include farm wells, borewells, the source of funding for creation of those wells; any subsidy grants availed, the extent of land irrigated by the water source, the HP of the motor for pumping of the water will be among the data collated by the enumerators during the census. The objective is to create a sound and reliable data base on minor irrigation systems including water bodies that will help in the estimation of available ground water and in the formulation of realistic water resource development and management, according to the administration. The Minor irrigation Statistics scheme is Centrally sponsored scheme under the Ministry of Jal Shakthi. The 7th Minor Irrigation Census will use 2023-24 as the base year. The district level committee for the minor irrigation statistics will be headed by the District Collector, along with the District Revenue Officer as the nodal officer; Deputy Director of Statistics as the coordinator and Tahsildars as the block level statistics officers and members.

Audit meeting on infant-maternal mortality held in Dharmapuri
An audit meeting on maternal and infant mortality, chaired by District Collector R. Sadheesh, was held in Dharmapuri on Monday Addressing the line departments, the Collector instructed officials to be vigilant while monitoring infant deaths. In the event of death of female infants, he asked officials to inquire into the number of girl children the mother in question had and register a case of death under suspicious circumstances and also order a postmortem. Health department was instructed to ensure strict vigilance under the PCPNDT Act, to prevent illicit sex determination of foetus. Further, nurses and doctors found complicit in illegal sex determination must be cracked down through regular monitoring, he said. Reviewing the maternal and infant death numbers for the district, Mr. Sadheesh instructed the Health Department to inquire into the reasons and address the gaps, if any, to ensure the numbers are brought down. Joint Director of Health Services M. Shanthi was among the officials present.
