Kaizer Chiefs - Full list: 11 targets from PSL rivals, Sundowns and Bafana Bafana
Kaizer Chiefs are in the market for some key player recruitments. Kaizer Chiefs are closing in on their SEVENTH signing of the current transfer window. Jessica Motaung has confirmed that Amakhosi will be making more signings with new player announcements expected soon. So, let's take a look at all the players linked with Chiefs. Stanley Nwabali Croatian keeper (Pirates too) Asanele Velebayi Luke Maartman Lebogang Phiri Djenan Zajmovic Mayambela Feisal Salum Percy Tau Fiston Mayele Etiosa Ighodaro So, Chiefs have been linked with all of the above players this transfer window. In goal, Nwabali remains a top target for Amakhosi. This is because Fiacre Ntwari is one of FIVE more Chiefs players heading out of Naturena. Furthermore, PSL rivals Chippa United are open to offers for their top goalkeeper. Meanwhile, both Velebayi and Maartman have agreed to personal terms with Chiefs. However, they face an ongoing legal dispute over their contracts with Cape Town Spurs. Motaung has hinted at both being announced if and hopefully when these issues are resolved. Also, this R3-million capped Bafana Bafana has confirmed that Chiefs made contact with him. Furthermore, he is open to joining Amakhosi. Phiri is a former Chiefs transfer target and is one of the players they could sign if Nasreddine Nabi and co opts to do so. Mayambela is the other capped Bafana Bafana star linked with Chiefs. His brother recently teased the move on social media. Finally, a couple of international players are on Amakhosi's radar – Croatian goalkeeper Antonio Tuta and TS Galaxy striker – Dzenan Zajmovic. Percy Tau and Fiston Mayele were two of the biggest names linked with moves to Naturena. However, neither of these players is likely to join Chiefs. Amakhosi have shown no interest in Tau despite the Bafana Bafana attacker's willingness to join the Soweto giants at a reduced rate. They do not want to repeat the mistakes of the past. Mistakes that saw them sign big names that did not perform such as Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat. Whilst, Mayele brother has stated that a move to the PSL is no longer on the table. Thus, closing the door over a possible Chiefs move. Another player heavily linked who Amakhosi who is unlikely to sign for them is Salum. The midfielder has been strongly linked with a move for Naturena for months but talks have gone quiet. Meanwhile, outbound Mamelodi Sundowns striker, Ighodaro was initially named in Amakhosi's training squad for their pre-season tour of the Netherlands but he did not play in the friendlies. Moreover, he was not announced as a new player following the tour. Talks have stalled and the move no longer looks likely. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. 'Yes, Kaizer Chiefs did contact me and my representatives. We had small talks with Amakhosi, but I think since they were going to prepare for their pre-season in the Netherlands, the talks stalled a bit,' Phiri told Sunday World . 'But hopefully in the upcoming days or weeks, our talks will resume, and we will come up with something,' he added. In fact, Jessica Motaung has confirmed that more Amakhosi player announcements are set to be made. 'So, we're taking a very professional approach in terms of integrating and bringing the players into the team, so we will make sure we only make announcements when the time is right – so watch this space,' 'But certainly, we can't be engaging on players who are still with teams or still contracted. Once there are any changes, we will make those announcements,' she told the Media. So, Chiefs are closing in on their SEVENTH signing. Meanwhile, these are the main areas that Amakhosi are focused on reinforcing in the current transfer window as well as their main transfer targets. Cash-in-transit ambush weapon linked to Gqeberha gun dealer Karen Webb's business
A revolver used in a deadly cash-in-transit ambush outside a KFC in Sidwell, Gqeberha has allegedly been tied to several firearms reportedly missing from the premises of Gqeberha gun dealer Karen Webb. The weapon forms part of a new murder charge added to her expanding case, which includes allegations of gun smuggling, fraud, and multiple violent crimes. Karen Webb had to wait another day before her formal bail application could begin in the Gqeberha Magistrates' Court after her legal team requested more time to prepare. Meanwhile, new details emerged of the growing number of charges she faces. On Monday, the State brought another murder charge against Webb. It has now emerged that the new murder charge relates to a violent cash-in-transit ambush that took place outside a KFC in Sidwell on Monday morning, 30 December 2024. The guards arrived around 10am at the fast food outlet at the intersection of Commercial Road and Wright Street, in one of the busiest parts of Gqeberha's city centre. Across the road is a bustling taxi rank and several other popular fast food stores, ensuring the area is always a hive of pedestrian activity. The guards arrived as scheduled to collect cash from the KFC, but their duties took a violent turn when they were ambushed by a group of suspected robbers. A shootout ensued. A guard, as well as one of the robbers, was fatally wounded. Police members rushed to the scene, where they quickly apprehended another suspect allegedly hiding in the KFC among staff members. The Hawks quickly took control of the crime scene, where an illegal firearm was recovered. That firearm, a revolver, was eventually linked to a series of firearms that allegedly went missing from Karen Webb's gun dealership. On Monday, this double murder was added to her expansive list of charges, which include another murder and several other counts of theft, fraud, firearms smuggling and providing firearms to people unlicensed to possess them. Webb returned to court on Tuesday, where her formal bail application was set to begin. However, her legal team asked for the matter to be postponed. Her attorney, Peter Daubermann, indicated that he required more time to prepare for the charges added to her case on Monday. Webb has been in custody since her arrest in February 2024, when several firearms belonging to another dealer, but stored at her premises, Webb's Arms, were linked to a series of violent crimes across the country. Webb faces three separate cases before the city's magistrates' court. The first, which court officials branded as the 'main case', relates to the allegations of murder, theft and several firearm-related offences. The second is a theft case in which her ex-husband, Arthur Webb, has accused her of selling his property after their divorce. His property included several household items, including furniture, and it is believed that the case involves about R3-million. The third matter pertains to allegations that Webb was found in possession of a cellphone on two occasions while awaiting trial at the North End prison. All three matters are scheduled to proceed on Wednesday. DM

After the Bell: The staggering size and stumbles of the colossal PIC
While so many of the Public Investment Corporation's investments are in listed entities and we can all see whether it's making good decisions, the problems come in with its unlisted investments where, perhaps, someone gets to play with a huge amount of money without a huge amount of attention. If it is true that compound interest is the 'eighth wonder of the world', then the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) must be its colossus. It is so staggeringly big that it almost defies comprehension. The PIC currently has more than R3-trillion in assets. And it controls about 10% of the JSE. The scale of it is so big that its investment decisions could not just make or break companies, they might even make or break entire industries in South Africa. It makes the proposed Transformation Fund that would invest R100-billion look like a tiddler by comparison. It is just that big. There are important reasons it got so big, but one of them must be its age. It was created in 1911. That's just one year after South Africa was formed as a nation state in a colonial project. Like Warren Buffett's investing career, the PIC is a really good example of how time in the market is such an important factor. At the same time, of course, as the number of government workers has increased (leading to many, many bitter fights), so has the money it has to manage. The Government Employees' Pension Fund is its main client – millions go from government employee salaries into the fund every month. Considering how much money we are talking about, it is quite strange that we don't talk about it more. One of the reasons for that is so many of its investments are in listed entities. Basically it is putting money into companies listed on the JSE. And that means we can all see whether or not it's making good decisions. This is a kind of forced transparency (in its 2024 annual financial statements it flags 'transparency' as its first pillar of governance'). And by and large, it works. The problems come in, obviously, in its unlisted investments. This is where it makes decisions that we cannot see so easily. And I suspect we are going to see a lot more attention on this soon. On Monday, News24 published an important story saying that the acting head of the manager's unlisted investments unit, Thabiso Moshikara, is being accused of trying to get a R3-million bribe from someone whose company is being funded by the PIC. The person making the claim, Ralebala Mampeule, even claims Moshikara came to his house with 'unidentified males'. This must have come as a huge shock to the PIC and they will now have to investigate thoroughly. The problem is that it could take quite a while to know for sure what happened. Unfortunately, we now live in a society where it's entirely possible that someone offered Moshikara money for his influence, and when he refused, decided to simply make something up to get rid of him. Or it could all be true. At the same time, the PIC has recently been under fire over the Daybreak Farms fiasco. There it was quite clear that some of the directors and managers were just extracting money from a failing enterprise. While workers were protesting because they had not been paid and chickens were suffering because they were not being fed, the chair, Bojane Segooa, hung on until the last minute. The moment she received a payment of R625,000, she resigned. Daybreak is wholly owned by the PIC. Sunday Times journalist Sabelo Skiti had been warning us for years and years that this would happen at Daybreak. And his reporting and warnings were ignored by the PIC. This has infuriated Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana to the point where he has instituted an inquiry into the unlisted fund. I've never understood why an institution as massive as the PIC would not act when someone like Skiti reports on Daybreak in the way he did. It surely has the resources to monitor its unlisted investments. It is negligence that borders on the criminal to allow this to happen. I would think that its main customers, government workers, would be the first to shout and scream when this happens. It is their money that is going up in smoke. But they don't, because they're going to be fine. The pensions they receive are a defined benefit, meaning they'll receive the same amount of money no matter what happens to the PIC's investments. This is probably a very good thing. Workers should not suffer in their old age because, for example, Markus Jooste took everyone for a ride at Steinhoff. But it does mean that perhaps, just perhaps, someone gets to play with a huge amount of money without a huge amount of attention. It does look like the PIC is going to change slightly. There will probably be a new system to appoint its chair (since 2021, the law has been that the finance minister can appoint a deputy finance minister to the position of PIC chair). And I think there will be more demands for more transparency. We should all know how the PIC makes its decisions in the unlisted space. There are many advantages to being a colossus; you can take a lot of pain and keep trucking. But you are impossible to hide. And so we will always want to know what is going on behind the scenes. DM

What to know about the R3-million defamation lawsuit by Nhlamulo Ndhlela against Floyd Shivambu
In a compelling legal confrontation, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, the national spokesperson for the UMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), launched a defamation lawsuit against former party general secretary Floyd Shivambu, seeking a hefty R3-million in damages. The lawsuit comes on the heels of disparaging claims made by Shivambu during an interview with eNCA which Ndhlela asserts were baseless and intended to damage his reputation. Defamatory and malicious allegations Shivambu, who has publicly disparaged Ndhlela, labelled him "an imbecile" and "a fool," alleging that he is 'always on drugs and always high on alcohol.' Furthermore, these allegations included accusations of dishonesty regarding his interactions with former president Jacob Zuma, specifically suggesting the misuse of Zuma's daughter to gain influence within the MK Party. Statements were made to undermine Ndhlela According to Ndhlela's attorneys, Ndou Inc Attorneys, these statements reflect a significant disregard for truth and were crafted to undermine Ndhlela's standing as a respected figure within both the party and the larger political landscape. "These remarks have resulted in reputational damage, emotional distress, and public ridicule," read the court papers. Ndhlela has faced public scrutiny According to his legal team, since the interview aired, Ndhlela has faced a torrent of public scrutiny, receiving numerous phone calls and messages from colleagues and journalists seeking clarification in relation to the allegations. In an effort to mitigate the fallout, Ndhlela's legal team presented screenshots of social media posts ridiculing him, further evidence of harm to his reputation. Issue an apology on social media According to a report by Times Live, Shivambu has been instructed to issue an apology and retract his statement on X within 48 hours. Additionally, he is required to pin the post for at least seven days, clearly stating that the allegations he made on eNCA were false and he regrets making them. He was further required to reach out to eNCA and ask them to air a correction of his statement. The publication further added that if the demands were not met within 48 hours, the defamation lawsuit will be escalated to the high court. Shivambu will potentially face a court order requiring him to retract his statement and issue an apology. As well as covering the costs of the application.
