Man told councillors to 'burn in hell' during 'six-year campaign of abuse'

David Dade, of Cwmaman near Aberdare, was found guilty of two counts of harassment against Rhondda Cynon Taf council leader Andrew Morgan OBE and Aberaman councillor Tina Williams and appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, July 4. Mr Morgan said he was subjected to a "six year campaign of abuse and threats", including "over 200 emails, 90 E-forms and dozens of Facebook posts)" from Dade. ‌ Both of the victims said their family members were also subject to the harassment and abuse. ‌ Mr Morgan said the campaign, which included "suggestions of harm" to him and his family, was "relentless". In a statement released after the sentencing, Ms Williams said that Dade had became "obsessed" and harassed her family for the best part of five years, leaving her so fearful that she locked her letterbox every night "after being told to 'burn in hell'". She said that the charges being brought to court have been "a long time coming". Article continues below Dade, 63, was sentenced to six-months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months. After the hearing, Mr Morgan, who became leader of RCT council in 2014, said in a statement: "An individual has been found guilty of two counts of harassment towards myself and a colleague. The person has been sentenced to six months imprisonment suspended for 12 months, given a five-year restraining order and ordered to pay £2,000 costs. ‌ "A six-year campaign of abuse and threats, with over 200 emails, 90 E-forms and also dozens of Facebook posts. "While I have every sympathy with the person due to the issues they have experienced, it has been made clear by council officers and the Ombudsman three times that legally, it is a civil matter and not one the council can rectify. "Differences in politics with political debate and challenge is legitimate, however a relentless targeted campaign of harassment and suggestions of harm to me and others including family over a six year period crosses the line. I hope with the restraining order and a suspended sentence this episode will now close." ‌ Cllr Williams said: "It's been a long time coming, but after spending the last week in court justice has finally been served. "The individual who has been harassing me and my family for the best part of five years was found guilty on two counts of harassment - one against me and the other pertaining to leader of the council, Andrew Morgan. He's been given a six-month suspended sentence, a five-year restraining order and ordered to pay £2,000 in court fees. "Criticism is part of public life, but this became an obsession. No one should have to lock their letterbox every night after being told to burn in hell. I do not deserve that. It's unacceptable for anyone to have to live like that just for doing their job. Article continues below "I want to thank those who've supported me through it - you know who you are. I'm relieved it's over. It's time to draw a line under the last few years. Let's hope this is the end of it, for everyone's sake."

Pay ₹8 lakh compensation to kin of man who died after falling from moving train: Delhi HC to Railways

The Delhi High Court has directed the Indian Railways to pay ₹8 lakh compensation to the family of a young man who died after falling from a moving train near Agra in 2017. The court ruled that the deceased was a bona fide passenger and entitled to compensation under the Railways Act. The court set aside a decision of the Railway Claims Tribunal (RCT), which had rejected the family's claim for compensation, stating that the deceased was travelling on an expired ticket. The deceased, Lakhan Anuragi, was travelling with his sister and nephew on the Mahakaushal Express from Mahoba railway station in Uttar Pradesh to Delhi's Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station on the night of October 3, 2017. Anuragi reportedly fell off the train near Bhandai in U.P. in the early hours of October 4 and succumbed to his injuries. Representing the family, advocate Vrinda Kapoor argued that the deceased had travelled with valid tickets, purchased from the railway booking window. The High Court, in its May 30 judgment, overturned the RCT's decision, stating that the family's long wait at the platform and their reason for not boarding the earlier train — likely due to overcrowding and safety concerns — were both reasonable and indicative of legitimate travel intent. Rejecting the contention that the ticket expired at midnight, the court held that the ticket, having been issued at 5.26 p.m. on October 3, 2017, remained valid for 24 hours. 'In the absence of any explicit stipulation on the face of the ticket or any statutory prescription to the contrary, it cannot be presumed that the validity of the journey ticket expired at midnight,' the court noted.

Confidence that Llanharan bypass work will start as soon as possible

Confidence that Llanharan bypass work will start as soon as possible The council leader says it is a priority and that he is confident it will start in earnest once it gets planning permission Cold and frosty weather in Llanharan, as all of Wales will be feeling colder (Image: WalesOnline/Rob Browne ) The Llanharan bypass is a 'priority' for RCT council with the leader saying he's confident work will start in earnest once it gets planning permission and a contractor is appointed. Councillor Andrew Morgan was responding to a question from Brynna and Llanharan councillor Janine Turner at Rhondda Cynon Taf full council on Wednesday, June 25 who said that the statement earlier this year that the Llanharan Sustainable Transport Corridor had been given the go-ahead following a redesign was very welcome news. ‌ She asked the leader for update on the progress made since then and to outline some of the key steps for the scheme to be delivered. ‌ Cllr Morgan said the scheme was a priority for the council and that there had been a lot of work going on in the background to take it forward. The council has allocated £5.05m in the capital programme towards the project. He said the scheme had been 'redefined' in terms of embedding sustainable transport policies while still seeking to take the bulk of the traffic out of Llanharan. Article continues below The scheme was delayed because of the roads review by Welsh Government but the council has now had the green light to take it forward. To get all the latest politics, health and education news, sign up to our Wales Matters newsletter. The council is working on a funding package but the next key stage is that the pre-planning application consultation is expected to start during September and October. All the consultation documents will be made available online and in person at Llantrisant Leisure Centre from September 19 to October 17 with consultation days to be organised in Llanharan itself in October. ‌ Cllr Morgan said the road scheme is very much in line with what they previously looked at in terms of the corridor and it doesn't deviate much from that but has just been redesigned in terms of things like landscaping and drainage. He said 'what that does mean is that we substantially reduce in-built carbon' which will be close to 20,000 tonnes and the ancient woodland has been protected. They've also looked at junctions and making sure there's a good flow of buses and that they don't get caught up in traffic. ‌ 'There's an awful lot of small changes but the primary thing is the scheme is going ahead as far as we're concerned. We will need to get planning permission. 'We are in conversation with Welsh Government. We are committed to this in terms of using some CIL (community infrastructure levy) funding from the housing development down there and committing our own funds.' He also said they'd secured some further money around the active travel element. Article continues below Cllr Morgan said that once they do get planning and appoint a contractor 'I am confident the scheme will start in earnest'.

Fondazione Ricerca e Innovazione Cardiovascolare Completes Enrollment in TRANSFORM II RCT, A landmark study comparing MagicTouch SCB vs DES in Native Coronary Vessels

CLEVELAND, June 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Primary Investigator, Bernardo Cortese MD, proudly announces the successful completion of patient enrollment in the TRANSFORM II randomized controlled trial (RCT). This pivotal study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the MagicTouch Sirolimus-Coated Balloon (SCB) compared to an everolimus-eluting stent (EES) in treating de-novo coronary vessels. TRANSFORM II (Sirolimus-Coated Balloon Versus Drug-Eluting Stent in Native Coronary Vessels) is an investigator-driven trial sponsored by Fondazione Ricerca e Innovazione Cardiovascolare in Milano, Italy, and has now achieved its target enrollment of >1,820 patients. The final patient was enrolled on 6 th June 2025, marking a major milestone for the trial. Led by Study Chairman Prof. Bernardo Cortese (University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, Cleveland, USA) and a distinguished steering committee, TRANSFORM II is one of the largest global randomized controlled trials evaluating drug-coated balloon and has enrolled patients from 52 centers across Europe, Asia and South America. Key features of the TRANSFORM II trial include: Prof. Bernardo Cortese, Study Chairman of TRANSFORM II, commented: "After 3 and a half years we were able to complete the enrollment in TRANSFORM II trial, a study that involved 52 centers across 3 continents, and this is amazing. The effort put by our Team in Fondazione RIC and each Investigator of the study led to a quite fast enrollment in such a big, ambitious study. Our goal is to advance the adoption of DCB in the coronary space, testing this sirolimus DCB with the most studied and used DES, in a daily patient population. Along with the guidance of the recently published DCB ARC guidelines, we are paving the route for the modern angioplasty era!". Coronary vessels of this size (which account for roughly 80% of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions) present unique treatment challenges. Currently, interventional cardiologists must often choose a permanent implant namely a drug-eluting stent — effectively "caging" a small vessel — which may compromise long-term outcomes. The head-to-head comparison of MagicTouch SCB against a current standard of care (the EES family of drug-eluting stents) in TRANSFORM II is poised to provide critical evidence for an alternative approach. This trial has the potential to reshape treatment practices by establishing drug-coated balloons as the next viable option for patients with coronary artery disease. Drug-coated balloon technology has long been viewed as a promising solution for small, de-novo coronary lesions, and sirolimus is a viable alternative to the first generation of DCB eluting paclitaxel. Data from this large-scale RCT are expected to support a paradigm shift towards broader use of drug-coated balloons. Implanting a drug-eluting stent in a tiny artery is far from ideal for both patients and physicians, so a rigorous study validating the use of SCB was needed. TRANSFORM II is set to fulfill that need, with initial 12-month outcomes anticipated to shed light on the long-term benefits of avoiding permanent implants in coronary vessels. Dr. Manish Doshi, Founder & Managing Director of Concept Medical Group, commented: "The completion of patient enrollment in TRANSFORM II is a significant milestone in our mission to bring innovative drug-delivery technologies to the forefront of interventional cardiology. We are proud to scientifically support one of the largest global randomized trials evaluating sirolimus-coated balloon technology. This achievement reflects our commitment to clinical excellence, scientific rigor, and ultimately, better outcomes for patients around the world."
