Co-pilot of crashed helicopter remains sedated due to lung infection

JOHOR BARU: The co-pilot of the helicopter that crashed in Sungai Pulai, Gelang Patah, yesterday, Constable RG Devendran, 30, is still sedated due to a lung infection caused by drowning during the incident. The victim's elder brother, RG Navindran Raja, 39, said he was shocked by the incident and did not expect it to involve his youngest sibling of four. He received a phone call yesterday informing him of the incident involving his brother from the Tanjung Kupang police chief. "Devendran was keen to become a police officer and had only served a little over a year in the police force. "The doctor only informed us that he is still sedated in the intensive care unit due to a lung infection, possibly from drowning during the incident. They did not promise anything," he said when met at the lobby of Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) here today. Navindran, who is also a police officer serving at the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters, urged Malaysians to pray for his youngest brother's safety. "We have to accept this as it was an accident. Regardless, I ask for prayers for my brother so he can recover quickly," he said. Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Faizul Muhammad's sister-in-law, Lizah Omar, 46, said this was the first time her brother-in-law had been involved in an air accident. "Faizul has served as a police officer since he was single and has long been a helicopter pilot, but this is his first accident. "His condition today is better than yesterday; he can already converse and asked for kuih to eat. He sustained fractured ribs and injuries to his head and waist. "Faizul had actually planned to send his eldest child to register at a higher education institution in Terengganu this Sunday, but that will not happen as he is still receiving treatment at the hospital," she said.

Police heli crash: Constable still in ICU, four in stable condition

JOHOR BARU: A police constable remains sedated in the intensive care unit (ICU), while four other personnel are reported to be in stable condition following yesterday's helicopter crash near Sungai Pulai, Gelang Patah. Constable RG Devendran is being treated at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) here after the AS355N police helicopter crashed during a multi-agency simulation held in conjunction with the Malaysia-Indonesia-Thailand-Singapore 2025 Nuclear Security Detection Exercise (MITSATOM). Federal police Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said he visited all five injured policemen today and was assured by hospital staff that their conditions were improving. "Only one personnel remains sedated to limit movement and speed up the healing process. "The other four, including Corporal Adline Liu Yan Siu, are conscious and stable," he said outside HSA this afternoon. The police helicopter crashed at about 10am yesterday during a fly-past demonstration. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) confirmed that the AS355N helicopter, registration 9M-PHG, had departed from the Tanjung Kupang Police Air Base at 9.51am with five policemen on board, including the pilot.
