Break-in at home of Dr M's granddaughter: CCTV not the only thing we are looking at, say KL cops
KUALA LUMPUR: Other leads are being pursued as investigations into the break-in and robbery of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's granddaughter's home in Bukit Ledang. "There are other pieces of evidence that we have received, such as thumbprints, and this will take time for the forensics team to analyse," acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said at a press conference on Monday (July 28). ALSO READ: Dr M's granddaughter loses RM1.8mil in burglary He reiterated that the CCTV camera at the home was old and that the police were unable to obtain credible leads from it. On Wednesday (July 23), the alarm was raised when the victim's domestic helper contacted her after noticing that the rear gate to the Bukit Ledang home had been cut open and her bedroom ransacked. Losses have been estimated to be around RM1.8mil.

CCTV at Mahathir's granddaughter's home records only 24 hours, say police
KUALA LUMPUR: The CCTV system at former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's granddaughter's home in Bukit Ledang records footage for only 24 hours, which might have allowed thieves to evade capture. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the break-in and theft of RM1.8mil worth of belongings might have occurred days before it was discovered. "There was no credible footage discovered as the CCTV system at the house was only able to record for 24 hours, and the theft was discovered after more than 24 hours. However, we are still investigating the matter thoroughly," he said when contacted. DCP Mohamed Usuf said the police have recorded statements from three individuals in connection with the case. "We have recorded the statements of three individuals—a domestic helper and security guards—but no arrests have been made. We are still pooling our resources to identify and track those responsible for the crime," he added. DCP Mohamed Usuf previously stated that the losses involved the victim's jewellery and personal belongings. "The house is owned by Mirzan Mahathir, but his daughter lives there. When the incident occurred, there was no one at home except for a domestic helper and other staff. There were signs that the back gate of the house was cut," he said. It was reported that the home belonging to Dr Mahathir's granddaughter in Bukit Ledang was broken into. The victim's domestic helper contacted her after noticing on Wednesday (July 23) that the rear gate had been cut open and her bedroom ransacked.

Cops question trio over RM1.8mil burglary at Dr M's grandchild's house
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded the statements from three individuals in the investigation into a break-in at the house of the granddaughter of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Bukit Ledang here. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the three individuals included the security guard and housekeeper. "So far, no arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing," he said when contacted on Sunday (July 27). It was reported that the house of the former prime minister's granddaughter had been burgled with jewellery worth RM1.8mil stolen. It is learnt that the housekeeper realised the house had been burgled at 3pm on Wednesday when she found the rear gate forced open and the room ransacked. – Bernama

Dr M's granddaughter loses RM1.8mil in burglary
PETALING JAYA: A granddaughter of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has apparently lost belongings and jewellery estimated at about RM1.8mil after her home was broken into. Sources said the burglary was discovered at around 3pm on Wednesday when the granddaughter's domestic helper found that the rear gate had been cut open and the bedroom ransacked at the home in Bukit Ledang, Kuala Lumpur. 'Preliminary estimates indicate losses amounting to RM1.8mil, involving the theft of jewellery from the victim's bedroom,' acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said. He added that the house was inhabited mainly by the help at the time. 'We are working on leads. We have not identified the exact date of the incident and investigations will take time,' he said.
