Kelantan cops stand firm, gay gathering raid not linked to health programme

KOTA BARU: Kelantan police have stood by their earlier statement that the gathering in Kemumin here, which was raided last month, was not related to any health programme but was instead a social event involving members of the gay community. State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said that, based on intelligence gathering and public interviews, the Kelantan Police Task Force found that invitations to the gathering had been sent through specific WhatsApp groups. "Investigations showed that the invitations to the programme did not mention any involvement or organisation by official bodies such as non-governmental organisations (NGOs), health clinics, or the Health Ministry. "There was also no information indicating that the programme had received approval or was being monitored by any authorised party," Yusoff said in a statement late last night. On the day of the raid, Yusoff said the police Task Force had been monitoring the venue since 5pm, as the event was scheduled to take place between 8pm and 11pm, according to the invitation. He added that at around 8pm, the number of attendees had increased to about 100 people, who were observed dining and engaging in casual conversation. "By around 11pm, the majority of attendees had left the premises. The raiding team took precautionary measures and only conducted the operation at around 1am to ensure it proceeded smoothly without posing any risk to public safety. "During the raid, police found 20 men at the premises, and they admitted to being part of the gay community. "It was also established during the raid that no representatives from NGOs or any government health agencies, including the Health Ministry, were present." He added that documentation conducted on the 20 men revealed that 18 were from Kelantan, one from Perak, and one from Besut, Terengganu, who is a student at a higher learning institution in Kelantan. "Checks on their mobile phones revealed that three of them possessed pornographic videos involving same-sex activities. Some also admitted to having engaged in same-sex activities. "Police also found hundreds of condoms and several boxes of HIV medication in one of the rooms," he said. Yusoff stressed that police action was based solely on verified intelligence and lawful evidence, with no intent of discrimination. "Our responsibility is to maintain public order and safeguard the moral values of society. I hope this explanation will dispel confusion and speculation circulating online. "The public is urged not to spread unverified information and to continue cooperating with the authorities to preserve harmony in the state," he said. It was reported that three men, including two students from tertiary education institutions, were fined a total of RM11,000 by the magistrate's court on Sunday for possessing obscene images and videos. The trio was among those arrested by police during the raid at a house in Kemumin last month.

Malaysian Purchases RM11K Worth Of CHAGEE Drinks In 30 Days To Win RM15K Travel Card

Human history has shown us the true grit of an individual's dedication and effort in acquiring prized items, whether it involves competing for a cash prize or spending a ludicrous amount of money to stay at the top of a leaderboard. When there's a will, there's definitely a way. It was recently reported that a Malaysian purchased 978 cups of CHAGEE in 30 days to win a grand prize of a RM15.9K travel gift card. Reported by Facebook user @/Ryusen 生活小分享, the person would have had to spend at least RM11.6K in CHAGEE drinks alone to achieve such a feat. Following CHAGEE's 'Collect Cups, Connect Everyday' contest, which ran from 19th June to 18th July, the individual only known as Leo on the leaderboard managed to average 32.6 cups per day for the grand prize. Facebook user Ryusen details his calculation methods of using CHAGEE's cheapest beverage option, valuing RM11.90, to Leo's astounding CHAGEE purchase. The calculation estimated that Leo would have had to spend at least RM11,648.20 to stay on top of the leaderboard. The competition was straightforward, as the rankings are based on the number of qualifying cups purchased via the CHAGEE app during the campaign period. The rankings were nothing short of impressive, with 2nd place by an individual known as CHA holding 735 cups and 3rd at 557 cups by Faz. Even placing 100th place on the leaderboard required a minimum of 37 cups. The contest has since ended, but CHAGEE has yet to reveal this mystery buyer on their socials. Regardless, they deserve kudos for their dedication. Sources: Facebook, The Rakyat Post Alyssa Gabrielle contributed to this article

Malaysian Downs 978 Cups Of CHAGEE In 30 Days To Win Travel Voucher

Subscribe to our FREE In what might be the most caffeinated quest for free vacation ever documented, a Malaysian man has shocked the internet. He consumed 978 cups of bubble tea in just 30 days – all to win a travel voucher worth RM15,999. The epic tea marathon unfolded during CHAGEE's cup challenge promotion, which ran from 18 June to 18 July. The rules were simple: whoever bought the most cups would win the grand prize. What nobody expected was for someone to take it this seriously. The Numbers Don't Lie (But They're Hard to Believe) Let's break down the math that's got everyone talking. This bubble tea champion – identified only as 'Leo' on the leaderboard – managed to average 32.6 cups per day. That's one cup every 45 minutes, around the clock, for an entire month. Using CHAGEE's cheapest menu item at RM11.90 per cup, Leo dropped at least RM11,648.20 to win a prize worth RM15,999 potentially. Even accounting for bulk discounts or promotions, we're talking about a serious financial commitment to liquid sugar and tapioca pearls. The Internet Has Questions Social media exploded with reactions ranging from impressed to concerned. 'Are his feet still okay?' asked one worried commenter, while another joked, 'I'm afraid I'll win but won't have feet left to travel abroad.' Others speculated about the logistics: Was this a corporate bulk purchase? A group effort among friends? A party planning gone wild? The mystery deepened when people realised the sheer physical impossibility of one person actually drinking that much tea. The leaderboard shows Leo claiming the top spot with 978 cups, followed by 'CHA' with 735 cups and 'Faz' with 557 cups. The competition was clearly fierce, but Leo's commitment was in a league of its own. By the Book, But Beyond Belief According to CHAGEE's terms and conditions, the competition was straightforward: rankings were 'based on the total number of qualifying cups purchased via the Only paid orders through the official app counted – no freebies, no discounts with zero payment, and cancelled orders were voided. Even 100th place required a minimum of 37 cups to qualify for seven free regular milk teas, showing that this wasn't just about one obsessed individual, but a genuinely competitive field. What makes this story remarkable isn't that someone bent the rules – it's that they didn't need to. CHAGEE's official promotion created the perfect storm: a valuable grand prize, transparent leaderboard tracking, and no purchase limits. Leo simply took the challenge more seriously than anyone anticipated. The promotion has since ended, and Leo presumably has his travel voucher. His current tea consumption levels remain unknown. Woman protests double agent fee for JB apartment rental renewal

JOHOR BARU: A Malaysian woman working in Singapore has raised concerns over being charged a second agent commission despite only renewing her rental for a property near the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex here. In a Facebook thread that has since gone viral, the tenant questioned why she was asked to pay another RM1,431 in agent fees — the same amount she paid when she first rented the property a year ago. "I'm not moving. I'm staying in the same house. Why should I be charged again? What service justifies this?" she wrote in a post shared under the username miarania96, which included a full breakdown of her initial rental costs totalling RM11,331. According to her, the agent responded by calculating that the fee equated to "RM4 a day" and said it was for "our service for the upcoming one year". The woman, who works in Singapore and depends on accommodation at rental units near CIQ due to transport constraints, said she felt pressured to comply. "They told me it's standard practice in Johor. But when I rented in Selangor, agents didn't charge again for renewals — some even let me deal directly with the owner," she said. The Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents Act 1981 (amended 1997) regulates property professionals in Malaysia, requiring agents to operate ethically and transparently. The woman's post has sparked debate on whether such repeat charges are legally permissible or simply an industry practice. The 'New Straits Times' is contacting the Board of Valuers, Appraisers, Estate Agents and Property Managers (the regulatory body overseeing real estate agents in Malaysia) and state-based authorities and associations, to clarify whether repeat commission fees on rental renewals are allowed under current regulations.

Three men fined RM11,000 for possessing obscene content in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: Three men, including two students from tertiary education institutions, were fined a total of RM11,000 by the magistrate's court here today for possessing obscene images and videos during a raid at a house in Kemumin last month. Mohd Hanafi Ibrahim, 47, was fined RM3,000, while Muhammad Al Azamuddin Al Fadzil, 22, and Mohamad Syahmi Firas Mohd Jurij, 27, were each fined RM4,000 after pleading guilty before Magistrate Wan Mohd Izzat Wan Abdullah. According to separate charges read out to them, all three were accused of possessing obscene images and videos on their respective mobile phones. They pleaded guilty to committing the offence at a house on Jalan Kemumin, Kampung Pulau Belacan, Panchor, here at 1.15am on June 18. They were charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of three years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutors Muhammad Nadzir Abdullah and Nur Haziqah Hassan prosecuted the case, while all three accused were represented by lawyer Samantha Chong Yin Xin. Earlier, Muhammad Nadzir and Nur Haziqah urged the court to impose a sentence that would serve as a deterrent to the public. Samantha, however, pleaded for leniency, requesting the minimum fine as her clients had repented and promised to change. "Mohd Hanafi suffers from a brain condition and underwent head surgery in 2016. He is now dependent on his sister for support. "Muhammad Al Azamuddin is a first-year university student, while Mohamad Syahmi Firas is a final-year polytechnic student. "They have all promised not to repeat this offence. Their families have also vowed to guide them onto the right path from now on," she said. Failure to pay the fine will result in a six-month jail term. It was previously reported that police raided a gathering at a bungalow on Jalan Kemumin, believed to have been attended by nearly 100 men. The raid, conducted based on intelligence and public information, led to the arrest of 20 men and the seizure of hundreds of condoms and HIV medication.
