YAPIEM Allocates RM13.5 Mln To Improve Housing For Asnaf Families
PASIR PUTEH, July 6 (Bernama) – Nearly 300 underprivileged families across Malaysia have benefited from improved housing through a RM13.5 million allocation by the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YAPIEM) from 2020 to May this year. The funds, channelled through the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), have supported the construction and repair of 293 homes for asnaf (those eligible to receive zakat), as part of a national initiative to uplift living conditions for vulnerable groups. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said the projects include 167 home repairs and 126 new builds, with 199 projects completed and 94 currently in progress. 'This initiative is made possible through generous public contributions to the YAPIEM Trust Fund, which are channelled directly to those in need,' he said at the Sinar Lestari and Sinar Kasih Housing Programme handover ceremony in Kampung Merkang here today. The housing programme is implemented in collaboration with the Kelantan Federal Development Office (PPPNK) and the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) under the Prime Minister's Department. YAPIEM, established in 1976, is one of 14 agencies under the Religious Affairs portfolio. At the event, four recipients under the eKasih Kelantan programme received newly built homes, each valued at RM80,000, totalling RM320,000. Among them was Nor Liza Hassan, 51, who had waited 14 years for a home. She now provides full-time care for her husband, Mohd Ridzuan Nawi, 52, who has been bedridden since 2011 following a fall. 'This is truly a meaningful blessing. I've been applying for housing aid for over a decade,' she said. Nor Liza also supports their two children, aged 17 and 18, one of whom is still in school while the other is studying at Kelantan Matriculation College in Kok Lanas.

YAPIEM allocates RM13.5 mln to upgrade homes for asnaf families
PASIR PUTEH: Close to 300 underprivileged families in Malaysia have seen their housing conditions improve thanks to a RM13.5 million allocation by the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YAPIEM) between 2020 and May this year. The funding, managed through the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), has facilitated the construction and repair of 293 homes for asnaf (those eligible for zakat assistance). This effort is part of a broader national push to enhance living standards for vulnerable communities. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar shared that the initiative includes 167 home repairs and 126 new builds, with 199 projects completed and 94 still underway. 'This initiative is made possible through generous public contributions to the YAPIEM Trust Fund, which are channelled directly to those in need,' he said during the Sinar Lestari and Sinar Kasih Housing Programme handover ceremony in Kampung Merkang. The programme is a collaborative effort involving the Kelantan Federal Development Office (PPPNK) and the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) under the Prime Minister's Department. YAPIEM, established in 1976, is among 14 agencies under the Religious Affairs portfolio. At the event, four recipients under the eKasih Kelantan programme were handed keys to newly built homes, each valued at RM80,000, totalling RM320,000. One beneficiary, Nor Liza Hassan, 51, had waited 14 years for a home. She now cares full-time for her husband, Mohd Ridzuan Nawi, 52, who has been bedridden since 2011 after a fall. 'This is truly a meaningful blessing. I've been applying for housing aid for over a decade,' she said. Nor Liza supports two children, aged 17 and 18, one still in school while the other attends Kelantan Matriculation College in Kok Lanas. The family relies on monthly aid from the Social Welfare Department and PERKESO, as her husband previously worked as a school security guard. To supplement their income, she sells herbal products online and works as a seasonal food vendor during Ramadan, with plans to open a small food stall when possible. Single mother Nik Shazrina Nik Mohd Zulkiflee also received assistance—a RM9,600 Sinar Kasih grant—after her husband died in a road accident last year. The aid aims to ease her financial burden following the loss of the family's sole breadwinner.

Latest beauty industry guidelines ready, to go before cabinet
KUANTAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has finalised the latest guidelines for the beauty industry and will submit the proposal to the Cabinet, said Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh. She said the guidelines, which have been in use since 2013, include several improvements, in line with current industry developments, following engagement sessions with industry players and collaboration with the Ministry of Health. She said the initiative is also aimed at protecting consumers and developing the industry that has shown rapid growth and continues to make a significant contribution to the domestic economy, adding RM13.5 billion to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023. 'The updated guidelines include improvements related to the operation of machines, specifically whether they can be handled by medical practitioners or otherwise, particularly involving laser devices and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). 'This effort is not only to ensure the existing regulations remain relevant with current developments, but also to provide an opportunity for beauty industry operators and entrepreneurs to expand in a more professional and ethical environment,' she said at a press conference after opening a beauty centre here today. Fuziah revealed that since 2023, KPDN has received only three complaints related to skin damage following treatments at beauty centres, in addition to several complaints concerning treatment packages offered. She stated that over 28,000 companies in the beauty industry have been registered, adding that, as the ministry overseeing the unregulated services sector, KPDN will continue to take proactive measures to ensure the industry ecosystem grows in an organised and competitive manner.

Beauty industry guidelines review completed, will be presented in cabinet
KUANTAN: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has reviewed the beauty industry guidelines, drafted about 12 years ago, to better reflect current industry needs. Its deputy minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the revised guidelines have been completed and will be presented to the cabinet for approval. "The last time the guidelines were issued was in 2013. Since then, the beauty industry has grown rapidly and new regulations are needed to keep pace with global developments...I can only say that the papers on the improved guidelines are ready. "The enhancements aim not only to ensure the guidelines remain relevant, but also to create opportunities for beauty industry operators and entrepreneurs to grow in a more professional, ethical and consumer-friendly environment," she told reporters after opening a beauty parlour at Jalan Tun Ismail here today. She said the revisions were made following engagement sessions with the Health Ministry, Labour Department and key industry stakeholders. "Under the Medical Device Act, certain equipment can only be operated by medical professionals. The new guidelines will clearly define which devices require medical supervision and which can be handled by trained non-medical personnel. "While industry input is vital, consumer protection is equally important. We must maintain a balance and cannot make decisions based solely on one perspective," she said. When asked about the key focus of the new guidelines, Fuziah said it revolved around who was permitted to handle equipment such as lasers and ultrasound machines in beauty premises. "The ministry will propose to the cabinet that operators using such machines undergo proper training and receive accreditation. This aligns with best practices in countries like the United Kingdom, Australia and the United medical qualifications may not be mandatory, sufficient technical training will be required. "The updated guidelines will support both new operators and existing operators looking to expand in the beauty industry. "The guidelines will also help identify the types of equipment permitted in the sector and determine who is qualified to operate will be no further disputes," she said. Fuziah said that since these guidelines may be used for the next 10 years, it is crucial that they are comprehensive and free of loopholes. She also welcomed the government's decision not to include beauty services covering services such as manicures, facials, pedicures, and haircuts under the expanded Sales and Service Tax (SST) as of July 1, calling it a positive move for the industry. "This SST exemption will foster the sector's growth and protect small businesses. The beauty industry contributes RM13.5 billion to Malaysia's gross domestic product and is projected to grow at an annual rate of five to six per cent," she said.

RM13.5 mln Bung Sadung project to boost Serian's eco-tourism potential, says council chief
Minos (centre) listens to a briefing during his visit to the site. On his right is Ridu. KUCHING (June 18): A tourism project costing RM13.5 million will be implemented at Bung Sadung, a hill near the well-known Kampung Taee in Serian, according to Serian District Council (MDS) chairman Dato Peter Minos. He said Bung Sadung shares many similarities with the popular Bung Bratak in Bau, including huge trees and natural attractions at the hilltop. 'Personally, I see this as another project similar to Bung Bratak, although Bung Sadung is bigger at scale and slightly different in concept and design,' he said in a statement today. The statement followed his visit to the site of the access road to Bung Sadung, accompanied by Warisan Bung Sadung Serian Association (Pewaris) president Dato Sri Robert Jacob Ridu. Minos believes that once completed, the project will transform Bung Sadung into an iconic tourist attraction for nature lovers, much like Bung Bratak. 'It is a big challenge for MDS, but we can do it – with the cooperation of local communities, particularly the residents of Kampung Taee,' he added. According to Minos, the project is funded by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Coordination Agency (GKCDA), and was requested by Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada, with MDS acting as the implementing agency. The Public Works Department (JKR), he added, is tasked to build the access road. 'I think the access road will be ready by June 2026, once agreement is given by all the affected landowners. Then, MDS will start to do its part, but planning is on-going.' Minos also said the project is in line with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg's vision to turn Serian into an agricultural and tourism hub, or a 'mini New Zealand'.
