Malaysia food and culture festival 2025 targets 10,000 visitors in Bangkok
BANGKOK: The Malaysia Food and Culture Festival 2025 is set to welcome 10,000 visitors at Samyan Mitrtown in Bangkok from June 29 to 30, 2025. The event, organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, aims to strengthen Malaysia's tourism appeal ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026). Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, the Tourism Minister, highlighted the venue's strategic advantage, with an average daily footfall of 50,000 people. He expects at least 20 per cent of visitors over the two-day festival. 'The location near a major university, offices, and family-friendly spaces makes it perfect for engaging diverse groups,' Tiong told Bernama. The festival will showcase Malaysian cuisine, cultural performances, and tourism promotions, aligning with VM2026's goals. Tiong, currently on a working visit to Bangkok, officiated the event to enhance bilateral tourism cooperation. 'This initiative supports our 2025 targets of 43 million tourist arrivals and RM283.8 billion in tourism revenue,' he said. Tourism Malaysia's data shows Thailand contributed 2.26 million visitors to Malaysia in 2024, generating RM3.994 billion in tourism receipts. The festival aims to attract more Thai travellers by highlighting Malaysia's unique attractions. 'Hosting the festival in a high-traffic area allows us to reach a wider audience, encouraging more regional tourists to visit Malaysia,' Tiong added.

Tourism Malaysia anticipates boost in Australian visitors with new flight route
PETALING JAYA: Tourism Malaysia is eagerly anticipating an increase in Australian visitors with AirAsia now operating the Darwin-Kuala Lumpur route. Tourism Malaysia celebrated the arrival of AirAsia's inaugural flight from Darwin, Australia, at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Terminal 2) on Friday (June 27). The route marks a significant step in enhancing connectivity and opening a new gateway for tourists and business travellers between Malaysia and Australia's Northern Territory. Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry deputy secretary-general Chua Choon Hwa stated that the new route will build momentum towards the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026). "The vital Darwin-Kuala Lumpur route is a testament to Australia's standing as one of Malaysia's top visitor-generating markets. The launch is perfectly timed as we celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2025 and build momentum towards VM2026," he said in a statement. "We look forward to welcoming more Australian visitors to experience our unique cultural diversity and commitment to sustainable tourism," added Chua. In 2024, Malaysia recorded 447,785 visitor arrivals from Australia, which is an 11.7% increase from 2023 and 6.3% above pre-pandemic 2019 levels. For the year 2025, Malaysia is targeting 43 million international visitor arrivals, expected to generate RM283.8 billion in visitor receipts. The Darwin-Kuala Lumpur route will operate four times a week, namely on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. The Airbus A320neo aircraft that will be used for the route has a seating capacity of 180 people.

KOTA KINABALU (June 25): Tourism Malaysia Sabah, in collaboration with an e-commerce travel marketplace platform, has launched the 'Explore Sabah' promotional campaign aimed at positioning Sabah as a premier travel destination in Malaysia. The initiative aligns with the national Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign and leverages digital reach to spotlight Sabah's diverse offerings to both domestic and international markets. The campaign promotes over 400 curated travel experiences across Sabah, catering to diverse travel preferences. Highlights include island hopping and diving in Semporna, wildlife and river safaris in Kinabatangan, the Mount Kinabalu expedition, cultural village and heritage tours, as well as eco-retreats such as hilltop resorts and rainforest escapes. Additionally, the campaign extends to Labuan, promoting activities such as sunset cruises and yacht charters, beachside retreats and snorkeling spots, WWII historical trails and memorial tours, and cultural attractions like the Labuan Museum and Chimney Tower. With 1.4 million Chinese visitors recorded in the first four months of 2025 (a 37.8% increase from the previous year), Malaysia is on track toward achieving its target of 43 million international arrivals and generating RM283.8 billion in tourism receipts by the end of the year. As part of the campaign's branding effort, Tourism Malaysia is also distributing official Visit Malaysia 2026 promotional vehicle stickers to licensed tour operators across Sabah.
