Datuk businesswoman claims trial for making false statement
KUANTAN: A 46-year-old businesswoman with a Datuk title pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to making false statements regarding the resignation of three company directors about two years ago. Azjuriyahti Azlan claimed trial after the charge was read before Judge Noor Aisah Mohamed. She was accused of allowing a company secretary to submit a false statement concerning the resignation of three directors in a 'Section 58 Notification of Change in the Register of Directors, Managers and Secretaries' document. The offence allegedly occurred at a premises along Jalan Gambut on June 20, 2023. Azjuriyahti was charged under Section 591(2)(a) of the Companies Act 2016, which provides for a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment, a fine not exceeding RM3 million, or both, upon conviction. Companies Commission of Malaysia deputy public prosecutor Abdul Hadi Abdul Muti appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Muhammad Nazrin Mohd Seth represented the accused. Hadi proposed bail be set at RM30,000 with one surety, but Nazrin argued that the amount was excessive. Noor Aisah then set bail at RM8,000 and fixed August 28 for mention. Last month, the same court issued an arrest warrant for Azjuriyahti after she failed to appear for a hearing. Meanwhile, Noor Aisah also issued an arrest warrant today for Datuk Seri Mohd Nazrul Izad Mohd Arsad, 46, after he failed to attend court proceedings to face a charge under Section 591(2)(a) of the Companies Act 2016 for allegedly making a false statement. He was scheduled to jointly face the charge with Azjuriyahti. Abdul Hadi applied for the arrest warrant after Nazrul Izad failed to appear in court, citing health reasons. He also requested Aug 28 to be fixed for mention. Noor Aisah granted the application, issuing the warrant and instructing the accused to submit a medical certificate from a government hospital to explain his absence on Aug 28.

Investor caution pressures Bursa, but mega IPO could lift sentiment
KUALA LUMPUR: The prolonged caution among investors driven by ongoing trade and monetary policy uncertainties is expected to weigh on Bursa Malaysia's performance, dampening overall trading activity. RHB Research said the continued uncertainty will keep securities market prospects dampened and prolong risk-off investor behaviour. The firm believes that the derivatives market could also soften ahead in tandem with an expected half-on-half (HoH) softening in crude palm oil (CPO) prices. "Encouragingly, we gather that an initial public offering (IPO) deal carrying about RM30 billion market capitalisation—potentially the biggest ever IPO in Malaysia—is currently in the works and could be completed as soon as late third quarter (Q3) 2025. "On top of slightly lifting Bursa's non-trading revenue, this could also provide a boost to securities average daily value (SADV) should there be sufficient and sustained investor interest," it said. Meanwhile, RHB Research said Bursa Malaysia is scheduled to release its Q2 2025/first half of 2025 (1H25) financial results on July 29. As sequentially soft securities and derivatives indicators point towards a soft Q2 2025 overall, the firm said Bursa's 1H25 results could either underperform or just meet consensus' estimates. "We estimate Bursa could post a Q2 2025 net profit in the range of RM55 to RM65 million, bringing the 1H25 sum to RM123 million to RM133 million, a decline of 14-21 percent year-on-year (YoY) and 45-49 per cent YoY of consensus' financial year 2025 (FY25) profit after tax, zakat, and minority interest (PATAMI)," it said. RHB Research's unofficial forecast is premised on a sequential 10 per cent drop in total revenue due to weaker SADV and derivatives average daily volume (DADC) indicators and a higher cost-to-income ratio (CIR) of 52 per cent given the softer income generation. Overall, the firm expects Bursa to declare an interim dividend per share (DPS) in the range of 14-15 sen on a 90 per cent dividend payout ratio (DPR) assumption—a decline from the 18 sen/94 per cent DPS/DPR declared in 1H24. The firm has maintained a Neutral rating on Bursa Malaysia, raising its target price to RM8.05 from RM7.70 previously.

Nga demands apology from MyKiosk 'White Elephants' critics
KUALA LUMPUR - Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has called on those who labelled the MyKiosk initiative is a 'white elephant' project to apologise. He said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation, which found no elements of corruption or abuse of power in the programme's implementation, clearly demonstrated that the Housing and Local Government Ministry's (KPKT) efforts to carry out government policies should not be subjected to unfounded accusations. "KPKT took the initiative to invite MACC to conduct an investigation. It was not MACC that approached us. We went to MACC and submitted all the documents for review. MACC has since issued a statement confirming that there was no abuse of power, no criminal element, and no corruption involved,' he said. "I demand, on behalf of KPKT staff who work tirelessly to serve the people, that those who have made baseless claims and slander come forward and apologise. The sacrifices of these civil servants must be acknowledged and not tarnished by unfounded allegations,' he said during a question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today. He was responding to a question from Onn Abu Bakar (PH-Batu Pahat), who had asked for the latest statistics on the implementation of the MyKiosk 2.0 programme and the status of the Batu Pahat Municipal Council Stadium upgrade project, including its scope of work, costs involved, and expected completion date Nga said the implementation of MyKiosk has shown encouraging results, with MyKiosk 1.0 achieving a 91.75 per cent occupancy rate, while MyKiosk 2.0 has reached 86.78 per cent. This success has positively transformed the lives of 7,243 hawkers and petty traders across the country. He also highlighted success stories of MyKiosk traders, such as a hawker selling 'ayam gunting' at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) Square who now earns up to RM30,000 a month, as well as food and soymilk traders who have doubled their income to RM18,000 a month after joining the programme. "This is a testament to the success of reforms aimed at helping hawkers. It proves that MyKiosk not only provides physical facilities but also serves as a catalyst for economic growth by creating sustainable business opportunities,' he said. However, Nga acknowledged that there were some shortcomings in the programme's earlier implementation. To address this, his ministry has introduced a 'traffic light' evaluation system to monitor the performance of local authorities (PBTs). Through this system, any PBT receiving a green rating will be categorised as having excellent performance and will receive increased allocations, while those with a yellow rating will have their allocations reviewed. "If the light is red, the allocation will be cancelled, and the head of the PBT will be summoned by the Local Government Department to receive a reprimand and provide an explanation for failing to implement government policies. "We will continue to monitor to ensure that the well-being of the people, the welfare of hawkers, consumer comfort, and environmental sustainability are all prioritised under the MADANI Economy framework," he said. Meanwhile, regarding the Batu Pahat Municipal Council Stadium upgrade project, Nga said the project is expected to commence early next year and be completed by the end of the same year. He said the RM3.5 million project is currently in the process of appointing a consultant. "The scope of work includes upgrading the field drainage system, resurfacing the field, and constructing a new running track,' he said. - BERNAMA
