WCT's PLUS contract to add up to 4pct to annual earnings
KUALA LUMPUR: WCT Holdings Bhd's new contract to build additional lanes along the Sedenak–Simpang Renggam stretch of the North-South Expressway is expected to add 2–4 per cent to its annual earnings over the 36-month project period. Public Investment Bank Bhd (PublicInvest) said this is WCT's first win of the year and makes up 36.5 per cent of its RM1 billion job replenishment target for financial year 2025 (FY25). "With this job win, WCT's outstanding construction order book is estimated to increase by 14.6 per cent to RM2.8 billion," it said. However, it maintained its current forecasts, as the job win falls within its FY25 order book replenishment assumptions. The RM365.2 million contract, awarded by Projek Lebuhraya Usahasama Bhd, covers the construction of additional lanes along the Yong Peng (North) to Senai (North) stretch, specifically Phase 2 from Sedenak to Simpang Renggam in Johor. The scope of work includes site clearing, demolition, earthworks, drainage, pavement construction, road markings, installation of road furniture, geotechnical works, bridge building, environmental protection measures, utility relocation, road lighting systems, and the extension of vehicular box culverts. This second phase of the highway expansion was announced under Budget 2024, aimed at upgrading the Simpang Renggam-Machap section from four to six lanes to alleviate traffic congestion in the southern corridor.

WCT to build extra lanes at PLUS highway in Johor for RM365.2mil
KUALA LUMPUR: WCT Holdings Bhd has won a RM365.2 million contract to build additional lanes along a stretch of the North-South Expressway in Johor. The contract was awarded by PLUS Malaysia Bhd, said WCT in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today. It added that its subsidiary WCT Bhd had executed and accepted the contract that covers a wide range of infrastructure works. This includes site clearance, demolition, earthworks, drainage systems, pavement construction, road markings, installation of road furniture, geotechnical works, bridge structures, environmental protection measures, utility relocation, road lighting and the extension of vehicular box culverts. The highway expansion works are scheduled to commence on July 28, 2025 and are expected to be completed within 36 months. Earlier, PLUS announced that the project to expand the expressway from two to three lanes is being carried out in multiple phases, with phase two set to start on July 28. The company said phase one covers the section from Senai Utara to Sedenak, followed by phase two from Sedenak to Simpang Renggam, and ultimately phase three from Simpang Renggam to Machap. "Construction for phase two will cover a 17-kilometre stretch between Sedenak and Simpang Renggam, with an estimated implementation period of 36 months. "The contract for this phase has recently been awarded to a local contractor through an open tender," it said. PLUS said the project is part of the government's efforts to alleviate congestion along the southern corridor of the NSE during peak hours. The project is fully funded by the government. PLUS is jointly owned by Khazanah Nasional Bhd and the Employees Provident Fund. Khazanah, via UEM Group Bhd, holds a 51 per cent stake in the highway concessionaire, while the EPF owns the remaining 49 per cent.
