Wawa not dismissing ‘evil eye' for health woes
ACTRESS Wawa Zainal, who has been battling a series of health issues since last year, has apologised to her fans, suggesting that her misfortune may be linked to the cultural belief in the evil eye (penyakit ain), Utusan Malaysia reported. Wawa, whose full name is Nur Hawa Zainal Abidin, said that she had taken several steps to address her health, including undergoing a full body check-up, taking supplements and carefully monitoring her diet. 'I've been falling sick constantly since last year. It could be due to my age or a weakened immune system, which may be affecting my overall health,' she said. The actress, married to actor Aeril Zafril, also mentioned that she might need to increase her vitamin intake as it had previously been uncommon for her to fall ill. 'Thankfully, whenever I get sick, Aeril always takes me to the hospital for a check-up. 'I've also stopped consuming carbonated drinks, sweets and dairy products,' she added. When asked if her health issues could be related to the evil eye, the cultural belief that bad luck or illness can be caused by the ill-wishing of others, Wawa did not dismiss the possibility. 'I even consulted some experts to ensure that everything is all right. 'But I haven't resorted to alternative treatments. I rely solely on the Quran for protection,' she said. Wawa also expressed regret, saying: 'If I have ever hurt or mistreated anyone, whether intentionally or unintentionally, I sincerely apologise.' > A family of eight in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu, who reside in an abandoned building once used as a swiftlet house, has received assistance from the authorities, Kosmo! reported. Rural and Regional Development Ministry Terengganu director Md Razi Md Lazim said the family had stayed in the building as they could not afford to pay the monthly rent of RM550. Md Razi expressed his sympathy towards Mohd Nazarudin Muhamat, 50, his wife Nur Nadiatul Asyikin Muhammad Nasir, 36, and their six children. 'The site is in a dilapidated condition and it is not safe for anyone to stay there,' he said. Md Razi said that repair works will be done to turn the place into a proper home. Nur Nadiatul Asyikin said she used to work in Kuala Lumpur but decided to go back to their hometown during the Covid-19 pandemic due to the high cost of living. 'My mother allowed us to stay here temporarily. 'We tried to make some adjustments but there is no toilet, so we go to the nearest petrol station,' she added. Her husband works as a mechanic while she sells ice cream. They have a combined income of about RM1,000 a month. Family forced to live in derelict swiftlet building, aid on the way
KUALA NERUS: A family of eight forced to live in a crumbling former swiftlet birdhouse in Kampung Batin has drawn urgent attention from the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKDW). KKDW Terengganu director, Md. Razi Md. Lazim said he was shocked and moved by the family's living conditions, describing the structure as "extremely run-down and not suitable for habitation" after visiting them. The family includes Mohd. Nazarudin Muhamat, 50, his wife, Nur Nadiatul Asyikin Muhammad Nasir, 36 and 6 children aged 3 to 12. "I immediately went to the location after being informed of this matter by the former state assemblyman of Seberang Takir, Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd. Rahman. "This swiftlet birdhouse building is extremely run-down and not suitable for habitation," he was quoted as saying by Kosmo after offering support to the family yesterday. Md Razi said the premise is owned by Nur Nadiatul Asyikin's mother and became the family's residence after they were unable to settle their rent arrears. The 'residence' will be temporarily renovated with the addition of a living room, kitchen, and toilet to improve the comfort of Mohd Nazarudin's family, he said. Meanwhile, Nur Nadiatul Asyikin said they had previously been living in Kuala Lumpur but returned to their hometown about five years ago during the Covid-19 pandemic due to financial hardship. They rented a house in the beginning, but were forced to move out after more than a year because they failed to pay a monthly rental of RM550. "My mother allowed us to stay in this building temporarily. If we need to use the toilet, we will go to the nearby petrol station," she said. Md. Razi works as a mechanic, while her wife sells ice-cream with an average income of RM1,000 a month. Their eldest child, who is 12 years old, has been diagnosed as a person with disabilities under the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) category. It is understood that the couple has only recently applied for assistance from the Social Welfare Department and the Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council.

Econpile order book tops RM570mil, first above RM500mil since FY22
KUALA LUMPUR: Econpile Holdings Bhd's outstanding order book is currently estimated at around RM570 million, with new contract wins for the financial year 2026 (FY26) to date totaling RM125 million. In a note, RHB Investment Bank Bhd (RHB Research) highlighted that this marks the first time Econpile's order book has exceeded the RM500 million level since the third quarter of FY22, when it stood at RM550 million at the end of the first quarter of that year. "The group's tenderbook stands at approximately RM1 billion, comprising private and public sector jobs. "Potential rerating catalysts include faster-than-expected approval for the Sungai Klang Link project (worth RM300-RM500 million for piling works). "Profitability-wise, we expect gross profit margins for this latest job to be between five and eight per cent," it added. Meanwhile, RHB Research also highlighted that Econpile has announced its second job win for FY26 and its third win within a two-week timeframe. The group secured a RM98 million contract from Eastmont to undertake bored piling works for Blocks C and D, basement construction for Block C, and pile cap works for Block D within a proposed industrial development in Kapar, Klang. This is Econpile's largest contract win since October 2023. RHB Research said given that the majority of Econpile's contracts pertain to property development works, the latest win indicates the group's comeback in the industrial space. "The said project is expected to be completed within 13 months from July. "The last time Econpile clinched a job related to an industrial building was in April 2022, which was a RM23 million contract from CJ Synergy Solutions for a five-storey industrial building in Section 20, Petaling Jaya," it noted. Overall, RHB Research has maintained a "Buy" call on Econpile, with a higher target price of 48 sen from 42 sen previously. It remains positive on the group's track record in infrastructure jobs compared to other piling contractors. The firm also made no changes to the group's earnings estimates, as the latest win is within its FY26 job replenishment target.

Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man, who was recently jailed 12 months for assaulting his elder sister, was on Friday sentenced to another 14 months in jail and fined RM2,000, or two months jail by the Magistrate's Court for smashing the windscreen of his sister's car. Ridzuan Roslan, 29, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to committing mischief by smashing a helmet onto the front windscreen of a car belonging to his sister, Normala Roslan, 48, which caused RM550 in damages. The incident took place on April 27, this year, at 1pm, at the parking area of Cyber City Apartment in Penampang. The charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code carries a punishment of one to five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, on conviction. The prosecution informed the court that a dispute between the siblings began when Normala told Ridzuan, her younger brother, to stop shouting inside the house. Ridzuan reacted aggressively by punching the victim on the right side of her head, choking her, and slamming her left arm against a metal grille door, said the prosecution, adding that the victim sustained bruises and injuries as a result of the attack. Ridzuan then ran outside to smash her red Proton Saga using a blue helmet, shattering its front windscreen. Dzul ordered Ridzuan to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest. On July 1, Ridzuan was sentenced to 12 months in jail by a Magistrate Court for assaulting Normala. She was charged under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance (Chapter 80) of Sabah, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM100, a jail term of up to three months, or both. According to the prosecution, the victim had seen an advertisement for gold rings on Telegram and agreed to purchase two pieces. However, the jewellery was never delivered, and he was later asked to make additional payments. Feeling cheated, he lodged a police report.
