RO3.4mn drug rehab centre opens in Amerat
Muscat – Ministry of Health (MoH) inaugurated Muscat Rehabilitation Centre in Amerat, a specialised facility for addiction recovery built at cost of RO3.4mn, on Monday. It was funded in two phases, the first supported by Petroleum Development Oman with RO2.5mn, and the second by Al Jisr Foundation with RO900,000. MoH outfitted the centre with medical equipment, devices and furnishings. Opened under the patronage of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat, in the presence of H E Dr Hilal Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health, the centre is part of Oman's broader healthcare development strategy and Vision 2040 goals. Dr Yousef al Farsi, Director General of Health in the governorate, said the centre offers a structured treatment approach, starting with detoxification, followed by short-term psychological rehabilitation and long-term care to reintegrate individuals into society. 'This approach seeks to provide real opportunities for a return to a normal and healthy life, thereby directly contributing to enhancing community safety and the psychological stability of society members,' he said. The centre includes five inpatient wards with total capacity of 130 beds – 96 for males and 34 for females – including detoxification and short-term rehabilitation units. It also has a separate ward with ten beds for those referred for compulsory treatment and a long-term rehabilitation unit with 40 beds. Jumana al Zadjali of Al Jisr Foundation described the facility as a joint public-private-civil society effort, offering multidisciplinary services such as medical care, psychotherapy, physiotherapy and vocational training. The centre includes outpatient clinics, labs, a pharmacy and recreational spaces.

Oman: Karwa Motors to export over 700 vehicles in 2025
Muscat – Oman is set to export more than 700 vehicles to various international markets this year, according to Ibrahim bin Ali al Balushi, CEO of Karwa Motors. In an interview with a local radio station, Balushi said the company is eyeing aggressive expansion in the GCC market. 'In the recent past, we have exported vehicles to Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United States,' he said. In 2023, Karwa Motors exported 180 vehicles to the United States, increasing the number to 237 in 2024. The company also exports to several African countries. 'Our target for 2025 exceeds 700 vehicle exports. We have signed contracts with several countries, including a five-year agreement with one client for the annual export of at least 300 vehicles,' Balushi added. Established as a joint venture between Mowasalat Qatar and Oman Investment Authority, Karwa Motors operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility spread over 600,000sqm in Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD). With production capacity of 600 buses annually, the factory commenced operations in 2021 and initially focused on supplying buses for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The facility is equipped with advanced technology and includes comprehensive workshops for the entire production cycle – from cutting and welding to final assembly. Since beginning commercial operations, Karwa Motors has awarded local procurement contracts worth over RO2.5mn, reflecting its commitment to developing Oman's supply chain and integrating local businesses into the manufacturing sector. Karwa integrates Omani SMEs, awards contracts worth RO2.5mn
Muscat – Karwa Motors has awarded local procurement contracts worth over RO2.5mn since starting commercial operations in 2021, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening Oman's supply chain and integrating local businesses into the manufacturing sector. The company allocated business opportunities worth more than RO1.1mn to 93 Omani small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in 2024 as part of its strategy to reduce reliance on imports, ensure steady supply chains, and support the local economy. Highlighting the company's focus on local partnerships, Dr Ibrahim bin Ali al Balushi, CEO of Karwa Motors, said, 'Investing in local suppliers enhances industrial sustainability and strengthens Oman's manufacturing sector. It reduces import costs, improves supply efficiency, minimises risks from global disruptions, and ensures the availability of spare parts and services, ultimately sustaining production.' He added that building long-term relations with local suppliers improves production efficiency and service quality. Looking ahead, Karwa Motors plans to increase its local procurement as it expands operations and secures more commercial contracts. It is also working to create additional opportunities for small and medium enterprises in manufacturing and related services. To further support local businesses, the company will introduce training programmes to help suppliers meet global quality standards, positioning them for growth in both local and regional markets. Established in 2017, Karwa Motors is a joint venture between Qatar's state-owned transport company Mowasalat and Oman Investment Authority. Its factory in Duqm, spread over 220,000sqm, is strategically located near Duqm Port, providing direct access to international shipping routes and markets in Asia and Africa. The company produces buses – carrying the label 'Made in the Sultanate of Oman' – under a technology transfer agreement with leading global brands.
