ABECA demands probe into Haldia energy's electoral bond purchases over tariff impact concerns
KOLKATA: The issue of electoral bonds has resurfaced this time in West Bengal. Fearing that the purchase of electoral bonds may have a direct impact on consumer power tariffs in Kolkata and its adjoining areas, the All Bengal Electricity Consumers' Association (ABECA), an organisation reAccording to the Election Commission of India's website, HEL a company under the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group purchased 395 electoral bonds worth ₹377 crore in electricity consumers in the state, has called for a thorough investigation. The SUCI (Communist)-backed body has urged the West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission (WBERC) to examine whether the purchase of electoral bonds by Haldia Energy Limited (HEL) could result in additional financial burden on consumers. According to the Election Commission of India's website, HEL a company under the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group purchased 395 electoral bonds worth ₹377 crore in 2019. In a letter addressed to the WBERC Chairman, ABECA alleged that it had identified several lapses in the Annual Performance Review (APR) orders of both HEL and CESC. CESC, also part of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, is the sole electricity distributor for nearly 40 lakh consumers in and around Kolkata.

Tirumala (Andhra Pradesh) [India], May 19 (ANI): Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, member of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family, and royal scion of Wadiyar Dynasty Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar visited Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirumala to offer their prayers to Lord Venkateswara on Monday. The temple, dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is one of the most visited religious sites in India, attracting millions of devotees annually. While speaking to the media outside the Lord Venkateswara temple, Pramoda Devi, part of the Mysuru royal family, said that they donated two large silver perpetual lamps, each weighing 50 Kilograms, to continue the legacy of the then Maharaja of Mysuru.
