Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia: Every time dad tells us about Kargil war, I get goosebumps
On Kargil Vijay Diwas, as the nation pays tribute to the heroes of the 1999 conflict, actor Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia talks about her father Brigadier (retd) Gurdeep Singh Ahluwalia who fought in the Kargil War and was awarded the Sena Medal for his gallantry. 'I was 4 years old. My dad at that time was posted in Jammu and Kashmir. He was serving his tenure in RR, and it was during Kargil that he also got his first gallantry award, which was a Sena Medal.' Actor Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia Even at that young age, Nimrit could sense the tension at home, especially through her mother. 'I remember my mom was in a perpetual state, barely sleeping or resting. She was working, taking care of me and my brother, and the moment we would come back home, she would just be glued to the television," says Nimrit, adding, 'There was this one time during Kargil war that my mom hadn't heard from my dad for a couple of days. That's when my dad had revealed to her that every time he would go on an operation is when he calls before he goes. That one time, I remember my mom didn't receive a call for like 15–20 days, and she would say, 'No news is good news,' just to kind of make peace with the reality of it all.' While Nimrit feels proud of her dad, she states how it wasn't an easy time for them as a family. She says: "It was a very difficult time, even when I think about it now. Yes, we feel proud, but I think I was too young and too naïve to even understand what it entailed. Now that I think of it, I feel it was not only a difficult phase for us as a family. When I look back, I feel extremely proud of what his contribution has been, of course, to the country and what he's done.' When her father was awarded the Sena Medal, it brought pride, but also a painful reminder of the cost. 'Yeah, obviously when he got the Sena Medal and everything, we felt proud of him. But it's just a very bittersweet kind of a situation because whatever said and done — we lost out on so many lives — and it's just something no one wants a repeat of ever again,' shares Nimrit, adding: 'Every time someone says something like 'your father fought in the Kargil war'— it just kind of makes your heart a little fuller. Every time he tells me about those difficult times, I get goosebumps.' While it has years since we won the Kargil war, the memories and conversations, surrounding it are talked about often in her household. 'I remember when my dad and his friends meet, everyone's just going to talk about — obviously details I can't share — but how the operation was, how it was executed. Stressful times, but they make it seem so easy. I think his story is something that I've probably heard like 10,000 times already or maybe more,' recalls Nimrit. The 30-year-old actor is currently focusing on her acting career, but ask her if there was ever a chance of her following her father's footsteps, Nimrit says: "I remember when I was young, in school, I would keep questioning him — like, why can't I be in infantry? Why can't I go to war? I was always very curious and I wanted to join the forces myself. I even pursued a career in law. A lot of my friends ended up joining the JAG branch (Judge Advocate General's branch within the Indian Army's legal arm), and there were moments when I felt like, 'Hey, I want to join the Army, maybe be a part of the legal team if not otherwise,' but then acting happened and my father has been the strongest support system to me."

photoDetails english 2934881 Updated:Jul 21, 2025, 06:49 PM IST 1. Dhruv Jurel 1 / 8 Rajasthan Royals showed massive trust in Dhruv Jurel by retaining him for a whopping Rs 14 crore ahead of the IPL mega auction. However, Dhruv Jurel failed to deliver up to the expectations during the IPL 2025 season. The-24-year-old Jurel scored 333 runs in 14 matches, with an average of 37.00 and strike rate of 156.33 during the IPL 2025 season. He failed to take RR over the victory on multiple occasions in the run chase during the season. Given his high salary and low return, Rajasthan Royals might consider releasing Jurel before the IPL 2026 auction. Dhruv Jurel's IPL Record 2 / 8 Young India wicket-keeper batter Dhruv Jurel has scored 680 runs in 42 IPL matches with an average of 28.33 and strike rate of 153.84 so far. 2. Tushar has picked 9 wickets in 10 matches of IPL 2025 with an poor economy rate of 10.62 before getting dropped from the Rajasthan Royals playing XI in the last few matches. Given his ordinary show with the ball, Deshpande might be released by Rajasthan Royals before the IPL 2026 auction. 'Like A Gunshot': Kumar Sangakkara's Stunning Tale About Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Last Updated: Kumar Sangakkara has revealed his first Rajasthan Royals impressions of Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Rajasthan Royals director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara has revealed the fascinating tale of the first time he got to know about Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The Sri Lankan legend said that RR were asked to try Suryavanshi as early as 2023 (when he was 11 and two years before he eventually signed for them), while the first time he saw the Bihar teenager bat was in the RR camp, smashing the likes of Jofra Archer, with bat sounds similar to gunshots. Suryavanshi became the youngest to ever feature in IPL after replacing the injured Sanju Samson in the 11 mid-IPL 2025 season. He went on to score 252 runs in seven innings at a strike-rate of over 200. His exploits included a record-breaking 35-ball century against the Gujarat Titans. 'Suryavanshi has already shown himself to be a very special talent," Sangakkara told Sky Sports. 'In 2023, one of the Rajasthan Royals analysts sent through a text saying there's a very special player we need to watch, get to trials, and look to sign. And the first time I saw him live was after we had signed him, apart from watching some videos of him batting in the nets in Guwahati, batting against Jofra Archer and other seamers that we had. And he made it look very, very easy." 'He had a lot of time, the sound of his bat was like a gunshot every single time he contacted the ball. His bat swing is lovely. It's nice and wide outside the stump and it's very free flowing. He's got a lot of time. His movements are very, very simple and minimal and he's very enthusiastic about developing his shot repertoire and all the shots that you can want in a T20 batter. This is just a start for him to become even better and hopefully very, very special," he added. Suryavanshi has since become a mainstay for the India Under-19 teams, which are currently in England, and is likely to be the same for RR. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Mahesh Babu Ditches Body Double For SS Rajamouli's Next, Performs Own Stunts
Last Updated: SSMB29, directed by SS Rajamouli, stars Mahesh Babu in a globe-trotting adventure with high-risk action sequences. Mahesh Babu is set to take on a more physically demanding role in his much-anticipated collaboration with SS Rajamouli. As per recent reports, the actor will perform his own high-octane stunts in SSMB29, ditching the use of a body double. Earlier, this was done by Prabhas and Ram Charan as they also took on their own action sequences while working with Rajamouli in previous films. Touted as a globe-trotting action-adventure, SSMB29 is shaping up to be one of Telugu cinema's most ambitious projects. The film is being shot across various locations in India and abroad, with the scale and vision expected from a Rajamouli directorial. According to Telugu Cinema, Mahesh Babu's decision to handle the action scenes himself is intended to bring more authenticity to the film's thrilling moments. The filmmakers reportedly want Mahesh to be front and centre in all the action, rather than relying heavily on stunt doubles. In a related update, acclaimed cinematographer Senthil Kumar, known for his work in Magadheera, Baahubali: The Beginning, and RR, has revealed that he will not be part of this film. Speaking to Telugu 360, Kumar said, 'It's Rajamouli's call. He wanted to try someone new for SSMB29, which is why I'm not working as the cinematographer." Meanwhile, the production is reportedly moving ahead at a brisk pace, though the makers have kept most details tightly under wraps. A Deccan Chronicle report mentioned that Mahesh Babu will feature in a fast-paced solo dance number, shot on a large marketplace set built on the outskirts of Hyderabad. In another interesting development, Priyanka Chopra has filmed a special scene in the movie that includes the Mayurbhanj Chhau dance. This was confirmed by the choreographer via an Instagram post. Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli has dropped cinematographer Senthil Kumar from SSMB19. Though the two worked together on several of Rajamouli's blockbusters, including RRR and Baahubali, they will not be working together for SSMB29. Recently, Kumar confirmed the same and revealed that Rajamouli decided to move ahead with someone else. 'It was Rajamouli's call. He wanted to try someone else. People want to do different films with different people, right? So it is a good break," Senthil Kumar told Telugu360. The cinematographer also clarified that the decision has not impacted his equation with Rajamouli. 'We've been working together since 2003, but we didn't always do films back-to-back. There were breaks earlier too. I couldn't do 'Maryada Ramanna' or 'Vikramarkudu' because I was working on other projects. Gaps have happened before also, but the relationship continues," he added.
