Former NRL star Kevin Proctor has no regrets about taking part in RUNIT 02 in Dubai over the weekend, despite suffering a shocking knockout that has gone viral on social media. The 282 NRL game second rower came off second best after getting his head in the wrong position in an exhibition run it straight contest against former lower grade footy player turned social media influencer Jordan Simi. Footage of the hit showed the former Kiwis forward face-plant onto the astroturf with his arms and legs stiffening as medical personnel rush to him. In his first comments since the event, Proctor thanked RUNIT organisers and admitted he got the hit wrong. 'Just want to say thank you to everyone that has messaged me to ask if I was alright,' Proctor wrote on Instagram before flying back to Australia. 'I'm all good. 'We all know what we sign up for getting in there. 'It's a contact sport and unfortunately I put my head in the wrong place and came out second best. 'Ya win some ya lose some ... but no hard feelings. Hats off to the bro. It is what it is. 'I got in there had a crack at least. 'I like to thank @ for having me! Still grateful to be apart of it and im sure you guys are only going to get bigger n bigger. 'Congrats to all the winners and organisation for putting on a great event. Got me in trouble with your mumsy. Love brother.' The Dubai event was the third high profile competition RUNIT has staged after similar contests in Melbourne and Auckland in May. The event had a massive prize pool, with first place leaving with $200,000, second place pocketing $50,000 and third place walking away with $25,000. A social media sensation, RUNIT has gone viral with clips of big hits and thunderous collisions spreading like wildfire on Instagram and TikTok. It has attracted a huge amount of criticism as well though, with dozens of CTE experts slamming it. Meanwhile the Warriors, New Zealadn Rugby League, Rugby Australia and the Melbourne Storm hav moved to distance themselves from the craze. He then falls to his side on the ground where he doesn't immediately move. Staff rush towards him and help him into a sitting position as his leg kicks out. Proctor, a former Kiwis rugby league international, played 22 games for New Zealand between 2012-2019. The 36-year-old had a 14-year career in the NRL playing for Melbourne Storm from 2008-2016 and was a member of the 2012 premiership winning side. He played for Gold Coast Titans from 2017-2022 but his contract was terminated after he posted a video of himself on social media vaping during the halftime break. He then headed to England to Superleague side Wakefield Trinity before moving to France to play for semi-professional side AS Carcassone last year. Health experts have raised concerns about Run It Straight events which they've called a "dangerous spectacle". The risks were highlighted by the death of Ryan Satterthwaite, 19, in Palmerston North in May after he was critically injured playing a tackle game with friends. At an Auckland event in May two men retired due to knocks to the head, one slumping to the ground and appearing to have a seizure. Coroner Bruce Hesketh also took aim at the events which he said had "all the hallmarks of perilous activity that makes no attempt to mitigate head injury".

The pair took part in an exhibition run it straight challenge at the big-money event early on Sunday morning, Australian time. But the former Melbourne Storm and Gold Coast Titans second-rower comes off second best, as he spins in the air after contact and lands heavily on the ground. Proctor appears to be knocked out as he hits the floor, with his arms and legs going stiff in sickening scenes. He also stepped into the boxing ring opposite Justin Hodges in 2022, losing a four-round unanimous decision. Proctor played 283 NRL games for the Storm and Titans in a 15-year footy career. He was sacked by the Titans after he posted a video to his Instagram story of himself vaping in the toilets during the halftime break of the Titans' loss to the Bulldogs in 2022. He quickly deleted it, but was soon released by the Titans. One of the most controversial new combat sports on the planet, RUNIT staged its second event in Dubai, just a month after a New Zealand teenager died after playing a run it straight style game with friends. RUNIT and its deep-pocketed investors and sponsors flew eight athletes to Dubai, with $200,000 on offer for first place, while second took home $50,000 and third prize was $25,000.
