NHL Trade Rumors: Blues Making Big Push For Sabres Star

The St. Louis Blues are continuing to be linked to one of the NHL's top trade candidates. According to The Athletic's Jeremy Rutherford, he heard from a league source that the Blues are working hard to acquire Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram. Rutherford also added that Byram is a candidate to receive an offer sheet, but noted that the Blues would not get him that way. This is not the first time that the Blues have been connected to Byram. Late last month, NHL insider Darren Dreger reported that the Blues were one of the teams interested in the Sabres blueliner. Now, the Blues are only continuing to be linked to Byram with this latest report. Advertisement However, it also makes sense that the Blues are reportedly making a push to acquire Byram. Nick Leddy and his $4 million cap hit were claimed off waivers by the San Jose Sharks. Thus, the Blues have a spot available on their blueline and more cap space to work with. If the Blues acquired Byram, it would be a significant move for the Central Division club. This is because the 24-year-old is a top-four defenseman who provides solid offense and is right in his prime. Thus, he could be a long-term part of the Blues' core if brought in. We will need to wait and see if the Blues end up winning the sweepstakes from here. Radek Faksa is coming back to Big D on a three-year, $6 million contract that begins with the 2025–26 NHL season. Carrying an average annual value of $2 million, the deal isn't just about adding a reliable defensive center—it's about reinforcing a winning culture. Faksa's return highlights the Stars' strategy of combining veteran leadership with their talented young core as they look to stay competitive in a tough Western Conference. Radek Faksa brings veteran leadership and defensive depth back to Dallas Stars for 2025–26 season The signing was officially announced on Monday in Dallas by General Manager Jim Nill, who confirmed Faksa's new contract and welcomed the Czech forward back into the fold through the 2027–28 season. 'We are thrilled to welcome Radek back to Dallas,' Nill said when announcing the deal in Dallas. 'We know that he can be not only an important depth piece for our team on the ice, but a mentor to our young players off it. Between his work ethic and his efforts in the community, he has always been the consummate professional, and we know that he will be able to seamlessly step back into our dressing room.' Radek Faksa , 31, is coming off a season with the St. Louis Blues in 2024–25 that showcased his trademark defensive value. He recorded 15 points in 70 games while leading the Blues with a 57.0% faceoff win rate—a figure that ranked tied for ninth in the entire NHL among players with at least 750 draws. Faksa also ramped up his physical play, notching a career-best 7.56 hits per 60 minutes and averaging over a minute of shorthanded ice time per game. He delivered in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs as well, chipping in five points over seven games and finishing the Blues' First Round series against the Winnipeg Jets with a plus-7 rating—tied for second-best on his team. A former 13th overall pick by Dallas in the 2012 NHL Draft, Faksa previously spent nine seasons with the Stars, amassing 215 points (94 goals, 121 assists) in 708 regular-season games. He was a critical part of their penalty kill, ranking second only to Esa Lindell in shorthanded minutes and trailing only Jamie Benn in total hits among Stars players during that stretch. He returns as an NHL veteran ready to anchor the Dallas Stars roster for the 2025–26 NHL season. What Radek Faksa's return means for the Dallas Stars' future Radek Faksa's return isn't just about filling a roster spot—it's a calculated bet on leadership, defensive acumen, and familiarity with the team's culture. Blues general manager Doug Armstrong seeks Radek Faksa to come back As per recent news, Blues GM Doug Armstrong has indicated interest in bringing back Radek Faksa, who will become an unrestricted free agent . Faksa signed with the Blues mid-season and made a good impression with his consistent two-way play and excellent faceoff ability. While not particularly noted for his flashy offense, Radek Faksa's penalty killing and bottom-six anchoring made him an asset in depth. — stlouisblues (@stlouisblues) Armstrong affirmatively said the team is willing to bring back Radek Faksa, but stated that he is "letting the situation breathe." What that means is that there is interest from their side, but they are not going to make a hasty deal. The Blues value Radek Faksa's effort and leadership in the dressing room. He is one of those guys who just quietly does all the little things correctly, blocking shots, fighting in the corners, and making good decisions away from the puck.
