BJP MLA from Hawa Mahal faces backlash for sitting in SHO's seat
Jaipur: BJP MLA from Hawa Mahal, Balmukundacharya, stirred controversy Sunday, after his photo of sitting in the chair of Ramganj police station SHO went viral on social media. The image, which the legislator posted from his official handle, showed him presiding over a meeting with police personnel. In the caption, Balmukundacharya said he held discussions with SHOs of Ramganj, Galta Gate, and Manak Chowk police stations on ensuring safety of Kanwariyas during the upcoming Kanwar Yatras in the month of Shravan. However, the post sparked criticism, with several senior police officials privately expressing concern over the optics. "It has become a common practice for legislators to sit in the SHO's chair during their visits to police stations," one senior officer said. Another inspector added such practices undermine institutional boundaries. "Would any MLA or MP dare to sit in the chair of an IPS officer? If not, why should inspectors tolerate this?" he said. Congress MLA from Adarsh Nagar, Rafeek Khan, also criticised the photo, posting on X: "What is the BJP MLA trying to prove by authoritatively sitting in the SHO's chair at Ramganj police station? This is not only a breach of protocol but also an overt display of legislative overreach. It sends a troubling message for law and order in the state."

Wrongful detentions in name of B'deshi Rohingya: Cong MLA
Jaipur: Congress's chief whip in the state assembly, Rafeek Khan, Sunday said at a programme on the role of political parties in ensuring Right to Food that in the name of "Bangladeshi Rohingya", many people were picked up by the state govt and police "wrongfully" and "falsely". "An order came from above stating that Bangladeshi Rohingya people are wandering around everywhere. In Jaipur city, 2,000-2,500 people were picked up under the pretext of being Bangladeshi Rohingya, and they were asked for ID and passports. The labourers did not have passports. Many people did not have IDs. People from Rajasthan, specifically from Shekhawati, were picked up and detained. I managed to get around 2,000-2,500 people released from the police station. One woman was found whose land records dated back to 1960, even before Bangladesh was established. Not a single person was Bangladeshi. There are many people from West Bengal," said Khan. He also raised concerns over the state govt's intention of removing names from the list of the food security beneficiaries, based on caste or religion. CPI national secretary Annie Raja said the CPI has always supported the Right to Food law and has integrated these issues into the party's agenda.

Congress MLA Rafeek Khan moves SC against Waqf Act
Jaipur: Congress MLA from Adarsh Nagar constituency, Rafeek Khan, who is also a member of the Waqf board in Rajasthan, Tuesday filed a petition before the Supreme Court challenging the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The petition states that the new legislation violates Muslims' rights to equality under Articles 14, 15 and 19, right to practise and manage their religion and religious activities under Articles 25 and 26, and protection of rights of minorities under Article 29. "We have said that by amending the structure of the Waqf Board and the Central Waqf Council, it has been made mandatory to include non-Muslim members in Waqf administrative bodies. Doing so is an unreasonable interference in religious governance. In contrast, other religious trusts are managed under various state acts and by other religions. This selective interference has been done without imposing similar conditions on other religious institutions" said Khan. Earlier, Mumbai-based social activist Mohammad Jameel Merchant, Maulana Arshad Madani of Jamiatul Ulema-e-Hind, Mohammed Fazlurrahim, general secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Sheikh Noorul Hassan, MLA of Manipur National People's Party, and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi have all filed petitions before the Supreme Court challenging the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
