Govt failed to address critical issues in edu sector
Kurnool: Activists of the Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) on Monday staged a massive protest in front of the Kurnool Collectorate, accusing the alliance government of failing to address critical issues plaguing the education sector across Andhra Pradesh. The demonstration, held under the leadership of PDSU State president Md Rafi, highlighted various demands ranging from pending fee reimbursements to the improvement of hostel infrastructure. Addressing the gathering, Md Rafi alleged that the government has failed to release Rs 6,400 crore in pending fee reimbursement and scholarship dues, severely affecting thousands of students. He demanded stringent enforcement of the Fee Regulation Act in private and corporate educational institutions. He also criticised the unchecked commercialisation in the name of textbooks, stating that the Education Department has taken no action against those exploiting students for profit. Rafi further pointed out the dire state of welfare hostels, where students are reportedly forced to live in rented buildings under poor conditions. He called for immediate revision of mess and cosmetic charges in accordance with inflation and urged the government to construct permanent hostel buildings. He also demanded that HRD Minister Nara Lokesh fulfill the promises made during his 'Yuvagalam' padayatra, particularly concerning student welfare and education reforms. Among other key demands were the provision of a Rs 3,000 monthly unemployment allowance to jobless youth, filling of over 2.5 lakh vacant government posts, construction of a permanent building for the Government Degree College in Adoni, and the immediate reopening of the medical college between Adoni and Yemmiganur. The PDSU also demanded urgent recruitment for vacant teaching and non-teaching posts in government institutions. Rafi condemned the Minister's foreign visits amid a domestic education crisis and announced a large-scale protest to be held in Vijayawada on July 25. Several district leaders, including Shahid, K Somashekar, Marriswami, Akhil, Naveen, Surendra, Vinod, Kiran, Vamshi, Hari, Vinay, and numerous student activists, participated in the protest.

Fake surety scam busted; 8 held for producing forged Aadhaar cards
Bengaluru: In a major crackdown on a fake surety racket, Halasuru Gate Police have arrested eight people for allegedly furnishing forged documents, including fake Aadhaar cards, to secure bail for accused persons in various criminal cases. According to police, two separate gangs were involved in the scam. Those arrested have been identified as Rafi, Praveen Kumar, Abhishek, Govind Naik and Doreraju in one case, while Aabid, Wasim Ahmed and Govindaraju were arrested in another. Police investigations revealed that the accused accessed land records of unrelated property owners through the Bhoomi app, Karnataka's land record portal. Using these property details, they created fake Aadhaar cards with forged addresses matching the land records. The gang would insert the photo of the person posing as a surety onto the forged Aadhaar and then prepare additional supporting documents, including fake bank passbooks. These were then submitted to courts to stand as sureties and secure bail for accused persons. The racket came to light during a court proceeding when suspicious documents submitted in one case were detected as fake. Court staff from the 4th ACJM Court immediately filed a complaint at Halasuru Gate Police Station, triggering the investigation. Police have seized a massive haul of fake documents, 47 forged Aadhaar cards ,122 property-related records,Seven mobile phones,One pen drive and fake seals used to stamp forged documents .Preliminary investigation suggests the gang may have facilitated bail for multiple accused persons using the same modus operandi. The incident has raised serious concerns over the misuse of digital property records and loopholes in verifying surety documents submitted to courts. Police suspect that more people, including others who posed as fake sureties, may be linked to the racket. The Halasuru Gate Police are continuing their investigation to identify further beneficiaries and trace the source of forged documents.

Mohammed Rafi grew a beard, felt hurt when people said, 'he is finished' as Kishore Kumar rose to fame
Mohammed Rafi , one of India's most iconic playback singers, began his journey in films during the 1940s and remained a beloved voice until his passing in 1980. Despite his immense talent and the affection he received from fans, Rafi also went through a phase of self-doubt and struggle. Incidentally, just as Rafi was going through this, Kishore Kumar 's popularity was on the rise. In a recent chat on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel, singer Sudesh Bhosle recalled this turbulent phase. He shared how, in the beginning, many in the classical music community didn't take Kishore Kumar seriously, often criticising composers like Kalyanji-Anandji for choosing a non-classically trained singer. However, once Kishore teamed up with RD Burman and delivered a string of chartbusters, opinions changed rapidly. Sudesh revealed that the same critics who once doubted Kishore soon praised him as unmatched, even claiming that 'Rafi saab is finished.' This shift was so intense that it reportedly prompted Kishore Kumar himself to ask the media to stop the comparisons. 'It's hurtful because I respect Rafi saab,' Kishore had said, according to Sudesh. Though Rafi's vocal skills remained as strong as ever, the change in musical trends deeply affected him. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like USDJPY đang đi lên không? IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Sudesh recalled hearing from Amit Kumar that Rafi once refused to sing for a film featuring Kishore as an actor, reportedly saying, 'Uthao isko, yeh doobta suraj hai.' As Kishore began to dominate the musical space post-Aradhana, Rafi found himself sidelined. According to Sudesh, this led to a period of depression for Rafi. 'He grew a beard and reportedly told Naushad, 'I am not a singer.'' Naushad played a crucial role in helping him regain confidence. It was Laxmikant-Pyarelal and director Manmohan Desai—an ardent fan of Rafi—who brought him back with Amar Akbar Anthony. Initially hesitant, Rafi asked, 'Why are you calling me? I am not a singer.' But Desai's encouragement reignited his spark, leading to iconic songs like 'Parda Hai Parda' and 'Shirdivale Sai Baba. ' During this period, Rafi also took a brief sabbatical, officially attributed to a throat infection, with some even claiming he had lost his voice. But he made a grand return, and one of the standout moments was in Amar Akbar Anthony (1975), where Rafi, Kishore Kumar, and Mukesh shared vocals on the romantic hit 'Humko Tumse Ho Gaya Hai Pyar.' It was a symbolic moment—three legendary singers coming together, with Lata Mangeshkar lending her voice to the female parts—celebrated as a landmark musical reunion.

Mohd Rafi was depressed, grew his beard after Bollywood said he was ‘finished', chose Kishore Kumar: ‘He would say I'm not a singer'
Mohd Rafi started singing in the movies in the 1940s and until his death in 1980, he remained one of the most respected and loved singers that India had ever seen. Yet, despite his skill and popularity, Rafi also went through a phase where he went through self-doubt and this phase came about in the early 1970s, coinciding with the popularity of singer Kishore Kumar. In a recent interview singer Sudesh Bhosle said that at one point, Kishore wasn't taken seriously by the pundits of music as he was not a classically trained singer, but later, as he started working with RD Burman and delivering one hit after another, Kishore's perception changed. In a chat shared on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel, Sudesh said that at one point, classical musicians would argue with composers like Kalyanji-Anandji as to why they were giving an opportunity to someone like Kishore, who wasn't trained classically. 'But Kishore gives us what we want. He gives the expressions, the feelings that we need in a song,' they said. Sudesh said that after a few years, everyone's tune changed and the same producers and media persons who didn't speak well about Kishore, declared him as the superior singer, and said that Rafi was 'finished.' 'They changed their tune and said, 'there is no one like Kishore, Rafi saab is gone, Rafi saab is finished. Finally, Kishore da had to tell media people that stop making these comparisons, it's hurtful because I respect Rafi saab,' he shared. Sudesh said that Rafi's singing was just the same, it was just that Kishore's fate had changed. After Aradhana, people said, 'we don't care who is the hero, but we won't have it if there is no Kishore Kumar song. At that time, Kishore started singing for the heroes, for whom Rafi saab used to sing.' Sudesh then shared that somewhere in the early 1970s, Rafi went into depression and implied that this was due to the constant comparisons that were being made. 'We had heard, we don't know how true it is, that Rafi saab went in depression. He grew his beard. He would meet Naushad and say 'I am not a singer' and Naushad helped him rebuild his confidence,' he said. Sudesh claimed that Laxmikant-Pyarelal called Mohd Rafi for Amar Akbar Anthony, and because director Manmohan Desai was a big fan of the singer, he cheered him on. 'Rafi said, 'Why are you calling me? I am not a singer'. Manmohan ji was a huge fan of Rafi saab, and after that he sang 'Parda Hai Parda', 'Shirdivale Sai Baba'.' Rafi took a small sabbatical in the early 1970s and it was said that he as suffering from a throat infection and had, in fact, lost his voice. In 1975's Amar Akbar Anthony, Kishore and Rafi sang 'Humko Tumse Ho Gaya Hai Pyar' together, along with Mukesh, as the song was picturised on three male actors. Lata Mangeshkar sang for all three female actors. The song was widely promoted as a coup as it brought Kishore and Rafi together.

HEC, Sindh HEC at odds overVCs forum in Morocco
A dispute has emerged between the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Sindh Higher Education Commission (Sindh HEC) over the participation of university vice chancellors in an upcoming international forum scheduled to be held in Rabat, Morocco. HEC has invited vice chancellors from across the country to attend the forum, asking universities to cover the travel expenses themselves. However, the Sindh HEC has refused to allow universities in the province to use provincial grants for this purpose. Sindh HEC Chairman Dr Tariq Rafi has issued an advisory to the heads of all public sector universities advising them not to undertake foreign trips using public funds, with a warning that any such cases will be reported to the Chief Minister, the Chancellor or Controlling Authority of Universities in Sindh. "The Sindh government provides grants to universities strictly for academic and research purposes. These funds cannot be spent on foreign trips," said Rafi. He added that while vice chancellors are free to attend the forum at their own expense, they are not permitted to use university or government funds for the trip. Sindh HEC reminded that it was difficult for many public sector universities in Sindh to even pay salaries of the teachers and staff. Even essential expenditures were covered by loans, he said. If such expenditures for international travel is of dire need, then they can only be incurred after approval of the same has been given by the Chief Minister. The Sindh HEC quoting the existing policy of the Universities and Boards Department of Sindh says, that the leave notifications issued for foreign tours explicitly mention that the expenses of such tours will not be borne by the Government of Sindh or university funds. The Vice Chancellors' Forum was originally planned to be held in Islamabad last month, but it was relocated to Rabat due to escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, sources said. Sindh HEC emphasized that most universities in the province are already facing financial deficits, and spending scarce resources on international travel would be irresponsible.
