Romanian plane brings back stranded Lebanese from Sharm el-Sheikh

A statement issued by Lebanon's civil aviation authority had said that it followed up on the issue with the travel agency at the instructions of Public Works and Transportation Minister Fayez Rasamny. Similar flights are scheduled to arrive in Beirut later throughout the day. Salam: We've removed arms from over 500 depots in South

'The pillars of my government's vision are regaining sovereignty and guaranteeing security and stability across Lebanon,' Salam said at a reconstruction conference. 'We are working on regaining control over all of Lebanon's entry and exit points, especially the Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut, and we will work on opening the Qlayaat airport,' Salam added. 'We have removed arms from more than 500 depots in the South, boosted security at Beirut's airport, and we will work with the diplomatic channels so that Israel halts its attacks on Lebanon and withdraws from the five points,' the prime minister went on to say. He also said that his government is working with the international community to 'secure a safe return by the Syrian refugees' to their country, and that it will devise a 'fair law for achieving justice for bank depositors.'

Araqchi at Beirut Airport: We Affirm our Support for Lebanon's Unity, Sovereignty in the face of occupation
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi landed in Beirut Tuesday morning as part of a broader regional diplomatic tour, offering strong statements of solidarity with Lebanon against what he described as external interference and occupation. Upon arrival at Rafik Hariri International Airport, where he was greeted by the Iranian ambassador and members of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, Araqchi immediately emphasized Tehran's commitment to Lebanon's sovereignty. 'No party has the right to interfere in Lebanon's internal affairs,' Araqchi declared during a brief press conference, while reaffirming Iran's backing for Beirut in its stance against Israeli occupation. He extended congratulations to the Lebanese people for the upcoming Resistance and Liberation Day on May 25 and offered Eid al-Adha greetings. The visit, which follows a stop in Cairo, includes planned meetings with Lebanon's President, Parliament Speaker, Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister. Araqchi highlighted that Iran's foreign policy prioritizes relationships with neighboring countries and regional allies. 'Relations between Iran and Lebanon are historic, deeply rooted, and based on mutual respect,' he stated, emphasizing Tehran's determination to strengthen bilateral ties. 'Lebanon's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity are fundamental to Iran and the entire West Asian region.' The Iranian diplomat stressed that Tehran's support for Lebanon 'does not in any way imply interference' but rather demonstrates solidarity with 'oppressed peoples.' He condemned ongoing Israeli occupation of Lebanese territories, calling it a violation of Lebanon's sovereignty. Araqchi expressed hope for 'a new chapter in bilateral relations' founded on mutual respect and shared interests. UAE delegation inspects Beirut's port and airport

'The Lebanese citizen wants Lebanon to return to its strategic role and the president of the UAE is keen on granting Lebanon everything it wishes for,' the head of the delegation, Assistant Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange Abdullah Nasser Lootah, said. The delegation also visited the Rafik Hariri International Airport and was accompanied by Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny on both visits. The United Arab Emirates had in early May lifted a ban on its citizens traveling to Lebanon that was imposed during a diplomatic row in 2021. The decision was announced a day after President Joseph Aoun met with his UAE counterpart Mohamed bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi. "The two sides agreed to allow citizens to travel after taking necessary measures to facilitate movement between the two countries and putting in place appropriate mechanisms," a statement said. In 2021, the UAE imposed a travel ban on its citizens and withdrew diplomats from Beirut in solidarity with Saudi Arabia after a Lebanese minister criticized the Riyadh-led military intervention in Yemen. Lebanese citizens were not banned from traveling to the UAE, although some experienced difficulties obtaining visas. The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, which supports infrastructure projects in developing countries, will send a delegation to Lebanon to study potential joint projects, the statement said. Ties between Beirut and Abu Dhabi soured in the past decade over Hezbollah's influence on Lebanon. But with the group weakened by its recent war with Israel, the UAE is the latest Gulf country to renew its interest in Lebanon. In March, Saudi Arabia said it would review "obstacles" to resuming Lebanese imports and ending a ban on its nationals visiting Lebanon. That announcement came after Aoun met Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh on his first trip abroad since taking office in January. Aoun, the preferred candidate of both Riyadh and Washington, was elected after the weakening of Hezbollah and the overthrow of the group's ally Bashar al-Assad in Syria shifted the balance of power in Lebanon.
