Ab Rauf praises WRUR Duyong as people-centric governance success

MELAKA: The Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme in Duyong has drawn over 10,000 participants, reinforcing the state government's focus on people-centric governance. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh noted that the two-week initiative featured 174 activities, setting a new participation record compared to previous editions. 'The success of WRUR is not merely measured in terms of projects or allocation figures, but in the faces of the people who feel heard, cared for and defended,' he said during the closing ceremony in Semabok Dalam. The event was attended by State Senior Executive Councillor Datuk Rais Yasin and Duyong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem. Ab Rauf emphasised that WRUR strengthens unity and solidarity, key values for a harmonious society. He thanked state leaders, community representatives, and agencies for ensuring residents benefited fully from the programme. 'This is the true intention behind the state government's decision to go to the ground, visit villages and housing estates, meet with rural and urban residents, narrow the divide, and truly understand the pulse of people's daily lives,' he added. - Bernama

Tanjung Bidara coastal upgrade project on track, says Melaka Exco

ALOR GAJAH: The Tanjung Bidara coastal upgrading project is progressing smoothly without delays, according to Melaka Senior Executive Councillor Datuk Rais Yasin. As of June 25, the project has achieved 40 per cent physical completion, five per cent ahead of schedule. Datuk Rais Yasin, who oversees Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change, and Disaster Management, stated that the project remains on track for completion by September 14, 2026. He dismissed claims of suspension, clarifying that any temporary pauses were due to necessary design revisions rather than delays. 'Although there was a temporary pause in physical works at the site due to necessary changes in the original design following structural impacts caused by wave action, the project was never suspended,' he said. The RM2.29 million project, which began on August 15 last year, aims to protect the Tanjung Bidara coastline from erosion and high tide effects. The Coastal Zone Management Division (BPZP) of the Melaka Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) reassessed the original design to ensure long-term coastal protection. - Bernama

KKDW To Open KEMAS Kindergartens For Autistic Children In All States

MELAKA, July 15 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) will begin opening Community Development Department (KEMAS) kindergartens for children with autism in every state starting next year. Deputy Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang said the initiative was prompted by requests from rural communities who want children with special needs to have access to education. 'There are already such schools in several states, particularly in urban and suburban areas, opened by private parties. But the issue is that rural communities cannot afford to send their children to these schools. 'That is why KEMAS, as an agent of societal change, has agreed to implement this special KEMAS kindergarten programme, starting with a pilot project in Melaka. 'Insya-Allah, we will expand it to all states next year,' she said after visiting the special KEMAS kindergarten pilot project, Tabika KEMAS Istimewa @ KEMAS Hang Jebat, here today. Also present was Paya Rumput assemblyman and State Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin. Rubiah said the special KEMAS kindergartens would be gradually expanded to the district levels in each state, as catering to children with special needs is a new undertaking for the agency. "These special children require dedicated care to help unlock their full potential. We hope these classes will achieve even greater success, that the teachers will become even more effective, and that we can nurture these children and help them realise their true abilities," she said. Meanwhile, Rais said the state government has allocated RM300,000 to three special KEMAS kindergartens in Melaka Tengah, Jasin and Alor Gajah to meet the needs of rural residents with special needs children.

Umno Tangga Batu division seeks mandate to contest parliamentary seat

MELAKA: The Umno Tangga Batu Division today approved a motion for the party to be given the mandate to contest the Tangga Batu parliamentary seat in the next general election. Its leader Datuk Rais Yasin said taking into account the history and composition of the voters, Umno is seen as having a bright chance to reclaim the seat currently held by a Perikatan Nasional representative. 'We appeal for the Tangga Batu parliamentary seat to be returned to Umno. This request is relevant based on the demographics of Tangga Batu parliamentary voters, which consist of 85,000 Malay voters out of a total of 120,000 registered voters. 'More uniquely, we have almost 10,000 military voters because this area is home to several main camps, namely Terendak Camp, Para Camp and Sungai Udang Camp. So we hope that Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership can see the matter and approve our request,' he said here today. He told reporters after the opening of the Umno Tangga Batu Division Delegates Meeting 2025 by vice president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani at the Sungai Udang Prison Complex Hall, which was also attended by Melaka Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. In the 15th general election (GE15) in 2022, BN through its candidate Datuk Lim Ban Hong from MCA lost in a five-cornered contest. - Bernama

Melaka draw up plans to address flooding in Bemban state constituency

JASIN: Flooding problems that frequently affect several areas in the Bemban state constituency are expected to be resolved by next year through the implementation of short-term and long-term solutions. State Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin said some of the flood-prone areas identified included Kampung Asam Kumbang, Lubuk Kasau and Tehel. 'This includes various immediate measures undertaken, such as river deepening and the construction of embankments by housing developers at Sungai Asam Kumbang to ensure smoother water flow. 'The state government, through the relevant departments, will also carry out follow-up actions such as installing stone-filled wire cages in the area to reduce the risk of overflow during heavy rains and to prevent riverbank erosion,' he told reporters here today. He said this after officiating the Jasin Municipal Council (MPJ) Prihatin di Hatiku Programme in conjunction with the Bemban state constituency's 'Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat' (WRUR) programme. Meanwhile, he said the issue of renewing electronic cigarette or vape business licences in the state would be coordinated at the Melaka State Executive Council (MMKN) level soon. He said they are gathering information from all local authorities (PBT) in the state regarding vape sales premises that have not renewed their business licences.
