Will Raja Singh resign as MLA too and join another party?

HYDERABAD: BJP national president JP Nadda accepted Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh's resignation on Friday. The lone BJP MLA in the GHMC limits, Raja Singh had tendered his resignation on June 30, openly opposing the appointment of N Ramchander Rao as president of the party's state unit. Now, the key questions that are being raised are: Will Raja Singh also resign as MLA and join another political party or set up a new outfit of his own? He had previously said that he intends to continue to fight for Hindu causes, which is fuelling the questions about how he would move forward. Raja Singh's supporters indicate that he may join the Shiv Sena or another regional party with a Hindu identity. Raja Singh, who initially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party from the Telugu Desam Party, began his political career as a corporator before officially donning saffron robes in 2013. He was first elected as an MLA from Goshamahal in 2014 and subsequently re-elected in 2018 and 2023. However, his journey has been tumultuous — he was suspended from the party in 2022 over his controversial remarks and violation of the party's code of discipline, only to have his suspension revoked later, which allowed him to contest and win the election for the third time in 2023. Amid a series of incidents and targeted criticisms against the state leadership and senior BJP figures, the party formally accepted his resignation on Friday.

New Delhi [India], July 11 (ANI): BJP National President JP Nadda, on Friday accepted the resignation of Telangana MLA T Raja Singh from the party with immediate effect. According to a letter by Arun Singh, the BJP's national general secretary, Singh's resignation was accepted as per the direction of party president JP Nadda. The letter stated that the contents of Singh's resignation letter were 'irrelevant' and did not align with the party's functioning, ideology, and principles. 'The contents mentioned by you are irrelevant and do not match the functioning, ideology and principles of the party': the letter stated. Earlier, after resigning from the BJP over reports that Ramchander Rao is set to be appointed as the new BJP state president for Telangana, MLA T Raja Singh refused Rao's elevation and said that the party leaders and booth-level workers need a state chief who is aggressive and talks about Hindutva. Speaking to ANI, Raja Singh said, 'I always keep telling the party that the BJP can form a government in Telangana. Today, the party workers, booth-level workers, are working for the party. However, when it comes to the declaration of the state BJP president, the party should consider what kind of person should be appointed as the state president.' 'I have been consistently advocating for a discussion within the party, from booth-level to party leaders, on the selection of the state party president. We need a state unit president who is aggressive. The people of Telangana, in particular, like those who talk about Hindutva,' Singh added. Furthermore, T. Raja Singh stated that he feels suffocated in the party and can no longer tolerate injustice. However, he emphasised that even after resigning from the party, he would remain a supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. 'For how long can I tolerate this injustice?...Humara bhi dum ghut raha hai party or not I stay in the BJP, I will remain a supporter of Modi ji, Amit Shah ji and Yogi party workers have been demanding a state party president who talks about Hindutva,' he said.'This is my personal decision. I cannot continue to tolerate injustice. Some people, by misusing their powers, are ruining the party in the state, and I cannot stand witness to this happening,' Raja Singh added. In his resignation letter addressed to G. Kishan Reddy, President of the BJP Telangana unit, Raja Singh stated that at a time when the BJP stands on the threshold of forming its first government in Telangana, the choice of Ramchander Rao as the State President raises serious doubts about the direction the party is heading. 'There are many capable senior leaders, MLAs, and MPs within our state who have tirelessly worked for the growth of the BJP and who have the strength, credibility, and connection to lead the party forward. Unfortunately, it appears that some individuals, driven by personal interests, have misled the central leadership and taken decisions by running the show from behind the curtain,' he said in his letter.
