Rajasthan Royals' Badale accuses former co-owner Raj Kundra of blackmail in UK court

Indian Premier League cricket franchise Rajasthan Royals' majority owner on Wednesday accused his former co-owner of trying to blackmail him by alleging he was defrauded out of his minority stake in the club. London-based venture capitalist Manoj Badale and his company Emerging Media Ventures are suing businessman Raj Kundra at London's High Court for allegedly breaching a 2019 confidential settlement agreement. The case centres on Kundra's former shares in Rajasthan Royals, winner of 2008's inaugural IPL which is now cricket's richest tournament with a brand value of $12 billion. Badale's lawyer Adam Speker said Kundra, who is married to Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, had threatened to report serious allegations to Indian authorities in a 'blackmail attempt'. Kundra, however, says he has been told information about the claimants and his lawyer William McCormick that, if that is not true, 'in due course it will be exposed'. Kundra had to forfeit his 11.7% stake after being found guilty in 2015 of betting on IPL games in a scandal which led to the Rajasthan Royals being suspended for two years, Speker said. The email to Badale said Kundra had filed a complaint with Indian authorities and threatened to make a report to India's Cricket Board (BCCI). Kundra added, however, that he was willing to discuss a deal involving 'the restoration of my original equity or compensation reflecting the true and current valuation of the Rajasthan Royals franchise'. Badale and his Emerging Media Ventures, which holds a 65% stake in Rajasthan Royals, obtained an interim injunction against Kundra on May 30, preventing Kundra from breaching the settlement agreement by making disparaging statements. Kundra's lawyer McCormick said Kundra accepted the injunction should continue until a full trial of the lawsuit. 'It is not an admission that anything improper has been done or is being threatened,' McCormick said.

Rajasthan Royals Owner Accuses Ex-Co-Owner Raj Kundra Of Blackmail In UK Court

Last Updated: Rajasthan Royals' owner Manoj Badale is suing ex-co-owner Raj Kundra for breaching a 2019 settlement. Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals' majority owner accused his former co-owner on Wednesday of attempting to blackmail him with claims that he was defrauded of his minority stake in the club. London-based venture capitalist Manoj Badale and his company Emerging Media Ventures are suing businessman Raj Kundra in London's High Court for allegedly breaching a 2019 confidential settlement agreement. The case revolves around Kundra's former shares in Rajasthan Royals, the winner of the 2008 inaugural IPL, which has now become cricket's wealthiest tournament with a brand value of $12 billion. Badale's lawyer, Adam Speker, stated that Kundra, who is married to Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, had threatened to report serious allegations to Indian authorities in an attempt at blackmail. Kundra claims to have received information about the claimants and his lawyer, William McCormick, asserting that if it is untrue, it will eventually be revealed. Kundra forfeited his 11.7% stake after being found guilty in 2015 of betting on IPL games, a scandal that led to the Rajasthan Royals being suspended for two years, according to Speker. Court filings indicate that Kundra emailed Badale last month, alleging he had been misled and defrauded of the rightful value of his 11.7% stake. In his email, Kundra mentioned he had filed a complaint with Indian authorities and threatened to report the matter to India's Cricket Board (BCCI). Kundra also expressed willingness to discuss a deal involving either the restoration of his original equity or compensation reflecting the current valuation of the Rajasthan Royals franchise. Speker further noted that Kundra messaged disgraced IPL founder Lalit Modi this month, stating Badale 'did not realise cheating me of the true value would cost him dearly". Badale and Emerging Media Ventures, which holds a 65% stake in Rajasthan Royals, obtained an interim injunction against Kundra on May 30, preventing him from breaching the settlement agreement by making disparaging statements. Kundra's lawyer, McCormick, said Kundra agreed the injunction should remain in place until a full trial of the lawsuit. 'It is not an admission that anything improper has been done or is being threatened," McCormick stated. First Published:

Buttler Was Stunned By Suryavanshi: 'This Guy's The Best Player I Have Ever Seen'

Last Updated: Jos Buttler recalls thinking that Vaibhav Suryavanshi was 'the best player I have ever seen' while watching him bat against CSK on TV. Former England captain Jos Buttler was lavish in his praise for Rajasthan Royals' Vaibhav Suryavanshi, recalling how at one stage in IPL 2025 he felt that the 14-year-old talent was the 'best player I have ever seen'. Buttler had been following Suryavanshi since he was included in the IPL auction list as the youngest-ever (13 years old at the time). The Englishman was then on the receiving end when Suryavanshi hit a 35-ball century, the second quickest in the IPL, against the Titans' quality bowling attack, breaking a plethora of records. He said he felt 'inspired and deflated at the same time' seeing someone so young bat like that. 'And then, the innings against us — you know, our bowling attack consists of Mohammed Siraj, a brilliant international bowler, Prasidh Krishna, an international bowler, Rashid Khan, the best T20 bowler — and he just… the scale of the sixes. They weren't just clearing the boundary — they were big sixes. I mean, you're literally a yard from him. Big sixes. And a 35-ball 100 — it was outrageous," Buttler said on the For the Love of Cricket podcast. 'It's inspiring and deflating at the same time. This guy's 20 years younger than me, and he's just smashing us all around the park. But yeah, absolutely — shockwaves throughout the cricket world," he added. However, more than the century, Buttler was impressed with Suryavanshi's mature knock against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The teenager scored 57 (33) but offered much more maturity, playing out the early overs and then smashing bowlers at will. 'I was watching on TV. And, you know, Chennai have Ravi Ashwin, Jadeja — proper seasoned pros. And he was like, bang, hit them out into the sand. And then sort of, you know, knocked one out to cover, like, I'm so in control, I'll just take one now, trot down to the other end. And at that moment, I'm like — this guy's the best player I've ever seen. Like, I'm so blown away," he added. Buttler went onto make what he knew is a 'huge statement', relating Suryavanshi's bat swing to two legendary cricketers. 'But the 100 was incredible, right? He went for every ball. It was like, no fear. Whereas that next knock, it was like — a seasoned pro, just taking down great bowlers, hitting a six when he wanted, getting off strike when he wanted. It was in a run chase as well. So, he was calm. And the swing of the bat is beautiful. He has this amazing bat swing, a bit like — it's a huge statement — Yuvraj Singh slash Brian Lara," he said. Prime Minister Modi Honors Young Cricket Star Vaibhav Suryavanshi After Historic IPL Performance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally met with teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi at Patna Airport, recognizing the 14-year-old's extraordinary achievements during the 2025 Indian Premier League season with the Rajasthan Royals. The young batting prodigy, accompanied by his family members, received praise from the Prime Minister following his remarkable campaign that captivated cricket fans across the nation. Modi later shared photographs of their encounter on social media, expressing admiration for Suryavanshi's exceptional talent and potential. In his social media post, the Prime Minister wrote, "At Patna airport, met the young cricketing sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his family. His cricketing skills are being admired all over the nation! My best wishes to him for his future endeavours." The meeting took place as Suryavanshi returned to his home state after the conclusion of Rajasthan Royals' IPL campaign, which ended without a playoff qualification despite several impressive individual performances from the young opener. Suryavanshi's journey to IPL stardom began when Rajasthan Royals acquired him for Rs 1.1 crore during the previous year's mega auction in Jeddah, making the investment when he was just 13 years old. His debut match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 19 at Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium immediately announced his arrival on the biggest stage of Indian cricket, as he struck a six off the very first delivery he faced from Shardul Thakur. The left-handed opener's consistency throughout the tournament established him as a reliable performer despite his tender age. Over seven matches, he accumulated 252 runs while maintaining an impressive average of 36 and a strike rate of 206.55. His partnership with fellow opener Yashasvi Jaiswal became one of the tournament's most exciting batting combinations. The defining moment of Suryavanshi's breakthrough season came during the match against Gujarat Titans on April 28 in Jaipur. In this encounter, he achieved multiple historic milestones, becoming the youngest player ever to score a half-century in T20 cricket. More remarkably, he went on to register the fastest century by an Indian batsman in IPL history, reaching the three-figure mark in just 35 balls. This explosive batting display not only showcased his precocious talent but also contributed significantly to Rajasthan Royals' commanding eight-wicket victory over the Titans. The innings demonstrated his ability to perform under pressure while maintaining the aggressive approach that has become his trademark. Suryavanshi concluded his memorable IPL debut season with another impressive performance against Chennai Super Kings on May 20 at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium. His 57-run knock off 33 balls against MS Dhoni's team served as a fitting finale to a campaign that established him as one of cricket's most promising young talents. The teenager's record-breaking performances have drawn comparisons to some of cricket's greatest batsmen and have raised expectations for his future contributions to Indian cricket. His ability to handle the pressure of playing alongside international stars while competing in front of packed stadiums has impressed cricket experts and fans alike. The Prime Minister's recognition of Suryavanshi's achievements reflects the national pride in nurturing young sporting talent and highlights the government's commitment to supporting emerging athletes across various disciplines. Such high-level acknowledgment often serves as motivation for young sports personalities to continue pursuing excellence in their respective fields.
