Muharram holiday 2025: The first month of the Islamic calendar, known as Muharram, began on June 27, Friday. Considered as the second-holiest month in the Hijri calendar after Ramadan, this month is a time to commemorate Hazrat Imam Hussain. Shia Muslims mark the day by engaging in self-flagellation. They commemorate the death of Prophet Mohammed's grandson Hazrat Imam Hussain through recitation of poetry, indulging in acts of self-mortification and through processions. Meanwhile, Sunni Muslims mark the day by observing a fast, offering prayers and alms. The 10th day of Muharram, Ashura, will be observed on Sunday, July 6. The crescent Moon was sighted on June 26 in India and the first day of Muharram-Ul-Haram began on June 27, as per Masjid-e-Nakhoda Markazi Rooyat-e-Hilal Committee. As per list of Gazetted holidays, the most auspicious day of Muharram falls on July 6. Since, Ashura falls on Sunday, all public and private sector banks and offices will remain closed on this day. Ahead of Muharram, Sambhal authorities placed over 900 persons under preventive restrictions to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident, PTI reported citing District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya's statement. Rajendra Pensiya warned, "Anyone found attempting to create conflict or disrupt communal harmony will also be placed under similar restrictions. If they go on to cause trouble, their surety bonds will be forfeited." Imposing a ban on the display of weapons during processions, he called for regular morning patrols, checks on objectionable posters, and CCTV and drone surveillance.

Sambhal admin to raze 34 illegal structures, including dargah, for development projects

Meerut: A total of 34 structures, including a dargah, will be demolished in Sambhal's Chandausi subdivision as part of an eviction drive against encroachments on 6.5 bighas of public land. Officials said notices have been issued, and demolitions will begin in a week unless occupants vacate voluntarily. Sambhal DM Rajendra Pensiya said, "Many of these structures were constructed without proper authorisation or using fraudulent documents. These buildings will be demolished, followed by legal proceedings. The demolition expenses will be charged to occupants who fail to vacate within the given period. This campaign is necessary to ensure that development projects like road expansions are carried out without obstruction. " Municipal authorities have issued notices to the encroachers, and two vacant plots were found among the illegal possessions. During the process, the management committee of a mosque voluntarily demolished their structure after receiving notice. The mosque premises were then locked, and prayers were halted. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Tiny Camera is Replacing Security Systems—No Fees, No Wires Secret Scope Camera Learn More Undo Work also began to shift the dargah of Yakub Ali Shah, located in Hayatnagar opposite Dharm Koop, to make way for the Bahjoi road expansion. Engineers from Roorkee were brought in to handle the technical challenge of relocating the dargah structure by 30 feet. They excavated nine feet of soil around the tomb and installed 60 jacks — 48 supporting the dome and 12 under the tomb. A workforce of 50 labourers is involved in the operation, which is expected to take about a week and cost Rs 20 lakh. Qari Nasir, the dargah's caretaker, said, "All precautions are being taken during the process. The dargah is being moved 30 feet away from the road to ensure it does not obstruct the upcoming road project." Public Works Department executive engineer Sunil Prakash said road widening would begin in full swing once the dargah is shifted. The demolition and relocation actions follow a land survey by the tehsil administration and revenue department about six weeks ago. Following the survey, municipal officials issued a 15-day notice to Maulana Mohammad Nazim, caretaker of the mosque that has since been voluntarily demolished.

Sambhal administration plans to restore more rivers following the Sot river revival

Sambhal (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 9 (ANI): After the successful revival of the Sot River, the Sambhal district administration has identified four more rivers for restoration under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). These include the Mahwa, Areel, Vardhaman, and Mahishmati rivers. Speaking to ANI, District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya said that while the Sot River has already been revived, restoration work is currently underway on the Mahwa, Areel, and Vardhaman rivers. 'Five rivers have been identified, out of which the Sot river has been revived. The restoration work of the Mahwa, Areel, and Vardhaman rivers is going on under MNREGA,' he said. He added that the Mahishmati River Tirth, listed among the 87 'Dev Tirth' (sacred river confluences), is being studied for revival. 'The 'Mahishmati River Tirth' is one of the 87 'Dev Tirth'. It is being studied and the same team that revived Lucknow's Kukrail river, has been called in. The path of the river will be identified and verified, and the river will be restored as a perennial river,' Pensiya said. The Sot River, a tributary of the Ganges, had disappeared from the Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh due to encroachment and years of neglect. However, the river has been revived thanks to a collaborative effort between the district administration and social workers. The project to revive the Sot River was started in 2021 by the then Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Sambhal, Sot River Revival: A success story of Janbhagidari in MNREGA from Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. During his Mann ki Baat program in 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned the revival process of the Sot River. Prime Minister Modi mentioned the Sot river in his Mann Ki Baat radio address, which excited the people of the area. The district administration then took up the task of reviving the river with the help of social workers. Following the success of the Sot River revival, the district administration now aims to replicate the model to restore more rivers and rejuvenate the region's natural water heritage. (ANI)
