Consumer court pulls up realty firms, orders compensation in two cases
Hyderabad: The district consumer disputes redressal commission, Ranga Reddy, has ruled in favour of consumers in two separate real estate disputes — one involving delayed possession of a flat, and another over returns promised on land-linked investments. In both cases, refunds and compensation were awarded. In the first case, Rajitha Guduru from Bachupalli deposited Rs 25 lakh in instalments with a real estate firm dealing in land ventures in Warangal. The company issued her certificates promising monthly returns on "undivided land shares", but no payments were made. Rajitha was never told where the land was or given proper documentation. Despite repeated follow-ups, they neither refunded money nor responded clearly, she told the commission. The complainant also alleged that she helped the firm by enrolling others into chit fund schemes tied to the same group. However, the commission found that the certificates lacked essential details like location, land extent, and transaction terms. Holding the firm guilty of misleading the consumer and collecting money without delivering on promises, the commission directed it to refund the Rs 25 lakh with 9% annual interest, pay Rs 50,000 for mental agony, and Rs 10,000 in legal costs. Other firms named were let off. In the second case, N Gayathri and her husband N Rajasekhar Reddy filed a complaint after two developers failed to hand over a flat in a Narsingi project. The couple paid Rs 36.9 lakh of the agreed Rs 68 lakh after signing a sale agreement in January 2022. However, the developers neither completed the flat nor responded to legal notices. With no appearance from the developers during the hearing, the commission set them ex-parte and ordered them to hand over the flat within three months after collecting the remaining amount. They were also directed to pay Rs 50,000 in compensation and Rs 10,000 towards litigation costs. These orders highlight how consumer courts are increasingly holding builders and investment firms accountable for delays, false promises, and lack of transparency in real estate transactions.

Hyderabad man dies after eating leftover refrigerated meat, food poisoning suspected
A man has died and three others are in critical condition following suspected food poisoning in Hyderabad, after a family of nine consumed leftover non-vegetarian food stored in a refrigerator. The incident occurred in Vanasthalipuram, where 46-year-old Srinivas Yadav, a conductor at the Falaknuma Road Transport Corporation depot, had cooked chicken, mutton, and boti (goat intestines) on Sunday to celebrate the Bonalu festival with his family and visiting meal was shared with his 38-year-old wife Rajitha, daughters Lahari, aged 17, and Jasmitha, aged 15, his 65-year-old mother Gowramma, as well as Rajitha's brother Santosh Kumar, aged 39, his wife Radhika, aged 34, and their daughters Poorvika, aged 12, and Krithagna, aged Monday, the family reportedly reheated and ate the leftover meat. Soon after, several members began experiencing symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea. All nine were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, Srinivas Yadav died on Tuesday. Doctors said three others remain in critical condition, while the rest are under close to Vanasthalipuram Police, 'One person has died and PME report is awaited, as all the family members are undergoing treatment, the formalities including funeral is to be done. Preliminary investigation indicates that food poisoning is the cause of death. The family consumed the intestines of the goat and some chicken as well. They had reheated the stored food. One dead, eight hospitalised after suspected food poisoning from reheated meat in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: A 46-year-old man died while eight members of his family were hospitalised due to suspected food poisoning in Vanasthalipuram on Tuesday. Three among the eight are in serious condition. The deceased, Srinivas Yadav, a bus conductor, was a resident of RTC Colony. The others admitted are his wife Rajitha (38), daughters Lahari (17) and Jasmin (15), mother Gouramma (65), brother-in-law Santosh Kumar (39), his wife Radhika (38) and their daughters Kritagna (7) and Purvika (12). Of them, Rajitha, Jasmin and Gouramma are said to be in critical condition. According to police, the family had celebrated the Bonalu festival on Sunday at their residence and consumed chicken and mutton prepared that day. Leftover boti and chicken were stored in the refrigerator and reheated for consumption on July 21. Soon after, all of them suffered from diarrhoea. They initially received treatment at RTC Hospital in Tarnaka, but their condition did not improve. On Tuesday, the nine persons were shifted to a private hospital in Chintalkunta, where doctors declared Srinivas Yadav brought dead. Meat reheated The family had consumed chicken and mutton on Sunday. The leftover meat was stored in the refrigerator and reheated for consumption on Monday.

BCI farmers get global recognition
Warangal: Prajwal Farmer Producer Company managing committee member Edla Rajitha, who belongs to Pathipaka village under Shayampet mandal in Hanumakonda, appreciated the farmers practicing the H&M Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), a global programme focused on making cotton production more sustainable. Taking part in the two-day Impact Panel Training in Turkey on Wednesday, Rajitha said that WWF India has been supporting the 15,563 Prajwal farmers in Shayampet, Geesugonda, Regonda, and Parvathagiri mandals in carrying out the H&M Better Cotton Initiative (BCI).

From tribal village to Asian gold: Sprinter Rajitha races toward Olympic dream
VIJAYAWADA: Kunja Rajitha (19), a young sprinter from the remote tribal village of Ramachandrapuram in Koonavaram mandal, Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district, has made headlines by winning gold in the women's 4×400m relay at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships held in Gumi, South Korea. Her rise from poverty to the continental stage is a testament to perseverance and the transformative power of opportunity. Born into a family of migrant workers who relocated from Chhattisgarh to Andhra Pradesh four decades ago, Rajitha is the youngest of six siblings. She lost her father, Mariah, when she was just 3-year-old, and was raised by her mother, Bhadramma, under financial constraints. Her athletic talent came to light at Arrupe High School in Katukapalli, run by the Loyola Integrated Tribal Development Society (LITDS) in Chintoor mandal. It was here that Fr Yesu Ratnam noticed her potential when she was in Class VII. 'She has speed and focus. I saw a spark in her,' he recalled. Encouraged by him, Rajitha began competing in school-level events, winning her first 100m race in 2016. After school, she pursued Intermediate at CK Junior College, Mangalagiri, and later joined SAAP (Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh) in Nellore in 2018. Trained by coaches Vamsi Kiran and Krishna Mohan, she continued to excel despite challenges such as financial hardship and delay in obtaining caste certificate.
