Maalik Box Office Collection Day 2: Rajkummar Rao's film nears Rs 10 crore mark

Maalik Box Office Collection Day 2: Rajkummar Rao-starrer Maalik has been receiving a lukewarm response at the box office. After a modest opening day collection of approximately Rs 3.75 crore, trade tracker Sacnilk reported that the film showed slight growth on its second day. Maalik made a collection of Rs 5.25 crore on Day 2, taking the film's total in India to Rs 9 crore in two days. On Day 2, the Rajkummar Rao-starrer recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 18.84%. The film saw 6.40% occupancy during morning shows, which rose to 16.95% in the afternoon and 19.14% in the evening. Notably, the night shows registered a strong 32.85% occupancy. Despite the buzz around Rajkummar Rao's new avatar, the film is showing a below industry expectations at the box office. Maalik had a box office clash with Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, starring Vikrant Massey and Shanaya Kapoor, and Superman. The film also faced tough competition from the film Metro In Dino, now in its second week, and Hollywood's blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth. Indian Express' film critic Shubhra Gupta give Maalik one and a half stars and wrote in her review, 'Rajkummar Rao film is predictable to a fault. The actor goes all out doing the mobster thing, hefting machine guns and goons, killing and rampaging with impunity in the Illahabad (Allahabad) of the late 80s-90s.' Rajkummar Rao's Maalik hit theatres on July 11. The actor has stepped into the gangster genre with this film, directed by Pulkit. The movie also features Manushi Chhillar, Saurabh Shukla, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Swanand Kirkire, and Saurabh Sachdeva in prominent roles.

Maalik trailer: Rajkummar Rao drops bullets like raindrops in this violent crime-drama. Watch

Rajkummar Rao-starrer Maalik dropped its first trailer on Tuesday afternoon and the film, that appears to be set in an Uttar Pradesh-like state, is soaked in violence. The trailer introduces the audience to a character named Maalik, played by Rao, who looks like the gangster of the area, and has his eyes set on the Vidhan Sabha. Maalik has his own gang but as his power and dominance in the area increases, the local opposition makes it their mission to bring it down. Maalik also appears to be a tale of vengeance where the lead character chooses extreme violence when he is hurt and even declares, proudly, that he will bring down the city with his bullets. The film also stars Manushi Chhillar, Saurabh Shukla, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Huma Qureshi, Swanand Kirkire, among others. The film has been directed by Pulkit, who has previously directed Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Bhakshak, and Rajkummar-starrer web series Bose Dead/Alive. Maalik appears to be an attempt at creating a Gangs of Wasseypur-like story, but on a bigger scale. In the last few years, with shows like Mirzapur, and many others that are set in the northern part of India, stories of gangs that conduct their illegal activities, and operate their illegal businesses, along with having an active political career, have become popular on OTT platforms. It is yet to be seen if Maalik can serve something more on the big screen. One can argue that even a film like Pushpa did the same thing, but since it was a set in a different geographical location, the audience got to see it through a different filter. For Rao, Maalik comes a year after Stree 2, which proved to be the biggest hit of his career. The film made almost Rs 600 crore at the domestic box office. However, since them, Rao has appeared in two Hindi films – Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and Bhool Chuk Maaf – and while the former sank without a trace, the latter reportedly made Rs 70 crore at the box office, even though it was exclusively in the theatres for just two weeks. This will be Rao's first attempt at playing a massy hero whose moral compass is governed by the bullets in his pocket. Maalik releases on July 11.

Bhool Chuk Maaf box office collection day 6: Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi's film surpasses Game Changer, The Diplomat

The Rajkummar Rao-starrer romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf is no Stree 2, but it's progressing slowly and surely at the domestic box office. Despite the limited shelf life it has before its unusual two-week theatrical window runs out, Bhool Chuk Maaf continues to attract footfalls in theatres across India. The film earned Rs 3.25 crore on Wednesday, which was a drop from its Monday and Tuesday earnings. Ever since its collection rose to double digits on Sunday (Rs 11.5 crore), it's not been able to attain that level again. The film earned Rs 9.5 crore and Rs 7 crore on its first Saturday and Friday, respectively. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the current domestic box office collection of Bhool Chuk Maaf is Rs 40.5 crore. On Tuesday, it had already crossed the lifetime domestic earnings of Rosshan Andrrews' cop thriller Deva, starring Shahid Kapoor (Rs 33.97 crore), which was released earlier this year. Having surpassed the Rs 40 crore mark on Wednesday, it's now also beaten the Hindi dubbed version of S Shankar's action drama Game Changer, starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, which collected Rs 37.47 crore in India. Since Bhool Chuk Maaf is expected to add another few crores to its earnings today, it will likely pass the domestic collection of Shivam Nair's thriller The Diplomat, starring John Abraham (Rs 40.75 crore). In the process, it's also beaten the re-release box office collection of Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru's romantic comedy Sanam Teri Kasam, which made Rs 35.55 crore. Bhool Chuk Maaf has a clear field of about eight days before two major releases pose threat to its momentum. Firstly, Tarun Manshukhani's whodunit comedy Housefull 5 will hit cinemas on June 6, boasting of a huge ensemble with the likes of Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, and Jackie Shroff among others. A day prior to that, the Hindi dubbed version of Mani Ratnam's crime thriller Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan, Simbu, and Trisha, will also hit the theatres. Directed and written by Karan Sharma, Bhool Chuk Maaf marks the first on-screen pairing of Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. It also stars Seema Pahwa, Raghubir Yadav, Zakir Hussain, and Sanjay Mishra among others. The film is presented by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films along with Amazon MGM Studios. However, leading multiplex chain PVR INOX sued Maddock Films for breach of contract, leading to a settlement that the film would release in cinemas on May 23, and will be followed by its digital release on Prime Video India on June 6 in just two weeks, as a one-off exception.
