Blackburn students prepare for trip to help children in Malawi

A group of students are preparing for a "life-changing" trip to Africa to help schoolchildren living in students are all studying for T-Levels in early years education at Blackburn College and will be travelling to the country in summer to help with the construction of a have raised £5,000 for the Malawi Relief Fund UK charity to build the facility but are continuing to raise more money to equip and decorate it before the trip in of the six student travelling to Africa, Amber Greenwood, said it was a "fantastic opportunity". "I think coming to Blackburn College we weren't expecting this opportunity at all, so it's fantastic to not only explore ourselves but also give back to the community," she student, who hopes to continue studying children's nursing at university after college, said she was looking forward to "supporting children's learning and development, but also helping a wider community".Layeena Masters said: "From what we've been told there's literally only the children, the staff and a chalk board there."So hopefully by us going there we'll be able to provide them with so many memories with simple things like colouring."Layeena, who wants to get a job as an early years educator after college, said: "I think it's going to put all the studies we've been doing so far into practice and take it globally". She said she hoped to help the children develop mentally and Bharucha, lead lecturer in early years study at Blackburn College, said money had been raised by hosting events such as a Ramadan Souk, a marketplace at the college with stalls of handicrafts and said Malawi was chosen as it is "a poverty-driven country"."So we decided that we would take the students on a life-changing experience where they can take the learning that they do in college on a global level and really make that impact," she said. The renowned singer will be joined on stage by a group of grandmothers, to collectively share traditional stories and songs passed down through generations of Palestinian and Arab women. From March 14 to March 23, Ramadan Nights at Al Shindagha Museum offer visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich heritage of the UAE. Through a series of interactive experiences and cultural showcases, attendees can explore the deep-rooted traditions and customs that define Ramadan in the region, making for a truly memorable and enlightening journey. Etihad Museum invites guests to embark on an exploration of heritage and artistry in two engaging workshops that explore the intricate history and beauty of henna, and the meticulous craft of handmade paper. These interactive sessions offer a hands-on way to connect with the region's artistic heritage while gaining new skills and appreciation for traditional craftsmanship. Art and reflectionReturning in an exciting weekend format, Ramadan Nights at Jameel Arts Centre takes place from March 14 to March 16, offering engaging workshops, hands-on activities, and the highly anticipated debut of the Ramadan Souk. Families and visitors of all ages can participate in holistic workshops led by local creatives, explore self-guided activities, and discover Art Jameel's current exhibitions. Alserkal Avenue brings a captivating programme entitled 'Interrupting Patterns', inviting visitors to reflect through poetry, performance, film and theatre. This initiative provides a unique opportunity to pause, rethink inherited narratives and discover new perspectives through the power of creative expression. This one-of-a-kind art exhibition transforms the venue into a canvas of cultural storytelling until March 30, bringing a curated art gallery experience that showcases the talents of emerging homegrown artists. Anime and more Anime enthusiasts should mark their calendars for Naruto The Gallery Experience, an immersive showcase dedicated to one of the world's most beloved anime characters. Running until 6 April at Dubai Outlet Mall, this themed exhibition takes visitors through the legendary journey of Naruto, featuring stunning visuals, dynamic video clips, and exclusive artwork by renowned anime artists. Taking place against the breathtaking backdrop of Jaddaf Waterfront, Ramadan Nights will run from 14 to 16 March, promising an exciting weekend. For three nights, the arts centre will transform into a dynamic space buzzing with a mix of art, tradition, and community spirit. This year's Ramadan Nights is packed with engaging activities for all ages. You'll get a chance to let your creative juices flow with a lineup of workshops led by talented local artists. Or choose to explore Art Jameel's latest exhibitions to immerse yourself in art. There will also be film screenings and board games, which you can enjoy this weekend.
