Cultural, spiritual events to mark Guru Purnima celebrations today
Nagpur: A series of spiritual, cultural and religious programmes have been planned at various locations to celebrate Guru Purnima on Thursday. From early morning rituals to devotional music and community feasts, several temples and organisations have lined up events that reflect reverence towards gurus and spiritual mentors.
One of the major attractions is at the historic Sai Mandir on Wardha Road, known for following the festival calendar of the Sai Mandir in Shirdi. The Guru Purnima celebrations began Wednesday, with Bhajan Sandhya organised by Jai Gurudev Sanmitra Seva Mandal and Anand Borkar. On Thursday, a mahaprasad will be held at 12.30pm, followed by a devotional musical performance by Vidya Borkar's Swar Smarani Group.
Adding a festive and traditional touch, Gopal Kala and Dahi Handi Kirtan is scheduled at 10 am on July 11.
"Thousands of devotees visit Sai Mandir during this three-day Guru Purnima festival," said Avinash Shegaonkar, secretary of the temple trust.
Ramkrishna Math, another spiritual hub in the city, will observe Guru Purnima on Thursday from 5am to 7pm. The day will begin with Ved Path, followed by Ramakrishna Sankirtan, spiritual discourses (pravachan), prasad distribution, and conclude with Sandhya Aarti. "Devotees are welcome to participate in the full-day celebrations," said Swami Raghvendranand, president of the math.
Several cultural and religious institutions, as well as medical and community organisations, are also organising Guru Vandana programmes, health camps and devotional gatherings to mark the occasion.
