Half of Delhi students surveyed rely on AI for studies, but trust and access remain hurdles: Study

New Delhi: Nearly half of the students surveyed in Delhi's higher education institutions use Artificial Intelligence tools several times a week, with 23% reporting daily use and 21% using them several times a month. AI was used most frequently for research, with 84% saying they rely on AI for academic purposes, followed by writing at 76% and learning complex subjects at 68%. However, barriers to adoption remain significant, with 47% attributing limited AI use to lack of awareness and 45% citing limited knowledge on how to use them effectively. The findings are part of a new study by the Centre for Policy Research and Governance (CPRG) which surveyed 6,090 students across Delhi's universities and colleges to understand how AI is transforming education. The report shows a growing reliance on AI tools for academic work but also highlights concerns about their accuracy and ethical implications. Over half the students (58%) rated AI highly for speed and efficiency, describing it as an effective time-management tool. Yet trust in its outputs remains guarded, with only 6% of respondents calling it highly accurate, and 45% perceiving AI tools to give moderately accurate results. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo As the CPRG study notes, "While students find AI useful, they don't fully trust it to produce highly accurate work." According to the Digital Education Council's 2024 Global AI Student Survey, 86% of students worldwide reported using AI in their studies, with 54% using it weekly and 24% daily. This global context underscores the speed at which AI adoption is unfolding—but it also highlights that the same issues surfaced in Delhi, from accuracy concerns to ethical dilemmas. Students in Delhi raised similar challenges. Nearly 70% encountered issues such as incorrect or misleading output, limited customisation, or ethical concerns like plagiarism, while 49% cited difficulties in understanding AI-generated responses and 48% pointed to infrastructural hurdles such as internet speed. While 46% preferred AI-based tools, an equal 46% found traditional human-interactive methods more engaging, and only 11% preferred AI exclusively. Ramanand, director of CPRG, underlined the importance of balance. "Technology should serve as an enabler, not a replacement for human interaction. Govts and agencies must exercise caution when adopting or recommending educational tools, as many fail to address the real needs of students and teachers. If tools are not aligned with the realities of classrooms and society, they risk hindering rather than helping the learning process," he said. Emphasising the need for continuity with traditional practices, he added, "While technology will play a crucial role in shaping education, we cannot overlook the value of storytelling and dialogue. These time-tested approaches are essential for nurturing cognitive and emotional development and must be integrated alongside modern tools." The report places these findings within the broader vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which advocates the integration of advanced digital technologies into teaching and learning. Although NEP 2020 does not explicitly mention AI, it has catalyzed national initiatives such as CBSE's AI curriculum, the YUVAi programme, and platforms like NEAT and SATHEE. States such as Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Assam are also incorporating AI into school curricula. Still, the study warns that "excessive student reliance on AI tools can weaken critical thinking and creativity," underscoring the need for strong ethical oversight and balanced implementation.

India's growing economic leverage on global stage: RSS' Sunil Ambekar

New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): The Center of Policy Research and Governance (CPRG) hosted the second session of its Trade Roundtable Series at the India International Centre in Delhi on Monday. The session convened senior industry leaders, policymakers, academicians, trade negotiators, and public policy experts to deliberate on the theme 'US Tariff Policy and Trade Reform: Impact on the Indian Economy.' Speaking on this occasion Sunil Ambekar, All India Incharge of Media and Publicity division of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) highlighted India's growing economic leverage on the global stage, asserting the need to engage with the world 'from a position of strength rather than dependence.' The discussions examined the implications of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), standards compliance, and strategic trade positioning across key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, agriculture, defence, and intellectual property. Opening the session, Dr Ramanand, Director, CPRG, called attention to the need for sustained,stakeholder-led discourse to shape India's long-term trade strategy. 'In a rapidly changing geopolitical context, these dialogues help forge clarity around national priorities and industrial resilience,' he stated.A key point of discussion centered on standards and compliance. Prof. Rakesh Mohan Joshi, Vice Chancellor, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi, observed that 'despite many Indian facilities having international approvals like those of the FDA,' differences in standards, limited mutual recognition agreements, and high compliance costs continue to hamper India's export potential. Dr Omkar Rai, Ex-Executive Chairman Startup Odisha, Government of Odisha, stressed the need to boost India's innovation ecosystem, particularly in electronics and digital sectors. He noted that fragmented value chains and dependence on foreign standards undermine competitiveness, calling for stronger domestic certification frameworks. Panelists also discussed the importance of strengthening India's manufacturing base beyond startups, the need for better data and anticipatory scenario planning in trade negotiations, and the challenges of building competitiveness in global value chains. Several participants emphasised focusing on skill development, consistent quality standards, and improving domestic productivity as crucial steps for India's long-term trade strategy Building on the momentum of the Mumbai roundtable, the session focused on India's evolving trade landscape amidst shifting global tariff regimes, with particular emphasis on the electronics and startup ecosystems. CPRG's Trade Roundtable Series will continue with further sector-specific dialogues aimed at building consensus among industry stakeholders and informing India's broader trade vision amid an increasingly volatile geopolitical and economic landscape. India's opportunity to leverage its services, experience-driven sectors as engines of growth: NSE CEO Ashish Chauhan

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 25 (ANI): The Centre of Policy Research and Governance (CPRG) brought together senior representatives from leading financial institutions, steel and aluminium manufacturers, policymakers and regulatory bodies for the latest session in its Trade Roundtable Series, held at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in Mumbai on Tuesday. Participants examined the impact of escalating tariff and non-tariff barriers on its strategically vital steel and aluminium industries while exploring the evolving role of trade finance in safeguarding industrial resilience. During the roundtable discussion, Ashish Chauhan, MD & CEO of the National Stock Exchange, highlighted India's opportunity to leverage its services and experience-driven sectors as engines of growth. 'Our strategy need not be reactionary. While we may work on improving goods exports with finance, technology upgradation, incentives, policies and trade deals, our services and experience-driven sectors have boundless potential and are key to shaping our global economic presence,' he noted. Experts then turned to specific challenges while negotiating favourable terms in free-trade agreements. Key themes included enhancing GIFT City's global competitiveness, integrating UPI into trade finance, and ensuring a balanced approach to multinational and MSME interests. Dr. Ramanand, Director of CPRG, highlighted that the roundtable represents a crucial step in forging cross-sector synergy. 'Continuous dialogue between economists, industry and institutions is essential to navigate the complexities of the global trade landscape. Our approach should be to build consensus among all the stakeholders while also holding India's economic interests as a priority,' he emphasised. CPRG's Trade Roundtable Series will continue with sector-specific dialogues in the coming weeks, informing India's long-term trade strategy amid an increasingly shifting geopolitical climate. The next round of discussion will be held in Delhi on June 30, with stakeholders in the manufacturing and startup sectors. (ANI)
