Low dose, high pressure: Doctors refuse to operate under bond-age
Patiala: Hundreds of young doctors walked off the job at Govt Medical College on Saturday, forcing a near-total shutdown of outpatient care and non-critical procedures here, as anger mounted over low stipends and compulsory service bonds in Punjab's public health system. More than 500 resident doctors and medical students launched an indefinite strike, paralysing services and demanding the state govt address what they call untenable working conditions. At the heart of the protest are calls to scrap the two-year compulsory post-MBBS service bond and increase stagnant stipends, which the doctors say are among the lowest in the country. "The govt has ignored repeated appeals. We've been left with no choice," said Dr Ramandeep Singh, who led the protest alongside colleagues Dr Milan, Dr Mehtab Singh, Dr Akshay, and Dr Gurbhagat Singh. The doctors also oppose a proposed hike in MBBS tuition fees at govt colleges to Rs 10 lakh, which they argue will deepen the financial strain on students. Patients seeking consultations and scheduled surgeries were turned away at the hospital gates, many voicing support for the doctors. "They're the ones who save lives. They shouldn't have to protest for fair treatment," said one patient outside the shuttered outpatient department. While emergency, maternity and critical child health services remain operational, the Resident Doctors Association has vowed to continue the strike until the govt offers written assurances.

‘As a batting unit, collectively, we couldn't do well': KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane said that underwhelming batting efforts throughout the season cost KKR their title. However, he also said that the pressure of expectations on the batters might also have played a factor in them not performing well. 'It's just that for us as a team, three-four guys were out of form. Where we faltered was at the batting end. As a batting unit, collectively, we couldn't do well. Unfortunately, two-three players were going through that phase for us. And that was the reason we couldn't do well…But again, they are pretty much experienced enough to handle this situation. I'm sure they will come back stronger next year…Rinku (Singh), Raman (Ramandeep Singh), all the players, they will learn from the mistakes and come back stronger,' Rahane said after the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday. 'When you have a couple of good seasons, as an individual, you put a lot of expectation on yourself. You put pressure on yourself. And I feel that was the case for most of the batters, to prove, you know, that how good I am. And it is completely natural. I'm sure our players, will learn from the mistakes. It's a lot to learn from this season, as a team. Not for any particular individual, but for everyone. So many learnings from this season,' he added. Kolkata ended their season on a low note when they were thrashed by SRH by a massive 110 runs which resulted in them finishing 8th in the table. SRH had posted a 278/3, the third highest IPL total in history, thanks to the third fastest century by Heinrich Klaasen. Chasing, KKR were all out for 168 runs. All their top batters who had clicked last season like Venkatesh Iyer (average 20.28), Andre Russell (18.55), Rinku Singh (29.42) and Ramandeep Singh (9.40) had a tournament to forget while auction buy Quinton de Kock couldn't plug in the gap left by Phil Salt.

Sunil Narine to Venkatesh Iyer: Biggest flops of KKR who might get RELEASED before IPL 2026
IPL's defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders are out of the playoff race. The team's match against Royal Challengers Bangalore was washed out due to rain. After 13 matches, KKR has only 12 points and now the team cannot go to the playoffs. This year KKR's performance was very disappointing. The team could not chase the target of 112 runs against Punjab. Apart from this, the team's performance was very disappointing in many matches. We tell you about 5 players, whom KKR can release before the next season. KKR had retained Ramandeep Singh for four crores. He disappointed a lot. Only 34 runs came off Ramandeep's bat in 10 matches. His average was 8.50 and strike rate was 113. This is the reason why the franchise can release him. In the IPL 2025 auction, KKR spent Rs 23 crore 75 lakh to buy Venkatesh Iyer. Even after playing 11 matches, Iyer could score only 142 runs. He does not even bowl and in such a situation his release seems certain. KKR had spent 6.5 crores to buy South Africa's Anrich Nortje. He got a chance to play in only one match. He could not do anything in this too. This is the reason why KKR would like to buy another player in his place. South African wicketkeeper batsman Quinton de Kock was bought by KKR in the auction for 3 crore 60 lakhs. He got a chance to play in 7 matches and scored only 143 runs. 97 of these runs were in a single match. KKR has also dropped de Kock from the playing eleven. Australia's Spencer Johnson performs brilliantly in the Big Bash. But he could not repeat it in the IPL. The left-arm fast bowler gave runs at an economy of 11.74 in 4 matches for KKR. During this period, he was able to dismiss only one batsman.
