'It's not a fair matchup': Patrick Mahomes' mother Randi Mahomes under fire for saying trans women in sports create an unfair matchup
Randi Mahomes has entered the debate surrounding transgender athletes in women's sports (Imagn Images) Randi Mahomes, mother of NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes, has sparked fresh controversy by openly sharing her stance on transgender athletes in women's sports. Speaking on a recent podcast, she emphasized biological differences between men and women, calling for separate categories in competition. Her remarks have reignited the ongoing national debate surrounding fairness, inclusion, and athletic integrity. Chiefs QB's mother uses podcast platform to defend female competitors Patrick Mahomes' mother, Randi Mahomes, rarely wades into hot-button issues, but her recent appearance on Tirralan Watkin's MOMetize Your Passion podcast has landed her in the center of the nationwide debate over transgender participation in women's sports. Citing her own background playing co-ed sports, she told listeners, 'Personally, since I've been a woman and a girl, and I've participated in mixed-gender teams throughout my life and just had fun playing sports… there's a big difference between men and women.' Randi—who raised both a Super Bowl-winning quarterback and a collegiate softball player—argued that sex-segregated competition protects fairness. 'I think it's not a fair matchup. I love everyone, but in terms of physical strength and just our DNA, I don't think it's fair, because I have a daughter and a son,' she said, before concluding, 'I think women really need to be with women, and men with men.' Her remarks echo claims made by several high-profile athletes and state athletic associations that biological advantages in speed and strength persist even after hormone therapy. Critics, however, argue that blanket bans marginalize trans girls and women who simply want to play the sports they love. Boxing example highlights murky enforcement across governing bodies To underscore her point, Randi referenced the 2024 Olympic boxing bout between Italy's Angela Carini and Algeria's Imane Khelif—a fight mired in controversy after the International Boxing Association suspended Khelif, alleging she was 'a man,' while the International Olympic Committee cleared her based on birth documentation. The conflicting rulings, Randi suggested, show why uniform standards are still lacking. Although Patrick Mahomes has stayed silent on the topic, his mother's comments arrive as several U.S. states tighten or re-examine rules on trans participation in scholastic and collegiate athletics. With the Chiefs firmly in the national spotlight, any stance taken by the Mahomes family ripples far beyond Arrowhead Stadium. Patrick Mahomes' mom makes stance on trans athletes in girls' and women's sports clear
The mother of Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes made her stance on transgender athletes' participation in girls' and women's sports clear during a recent podcast interview. Randi Mahomes was on the "MOMetize Your Passion" podcast with Tirralan Watkins and brought up the recent controversy in California high school sports that saw a transgender track and field athlete win events over biological girls. The issue captured the attention of the U.S., including President Donald Trump. Watkins asked Mahomes about her thoughts on transgender athletes competing against girls in terms of fairness. "Personally, from being a woman and a girl and doing co-ed teams throughout my life and just having fun in sports there is a huge difference between male and female," she told Watkins. "There is a huge difference and as a female I just think that it is not a fair matchup. A transgender, I am OK with, I understand, I love everyone. But when it comes to physical strength and you know just our DNA I don't think it's fair. "… I just think maybe they create a league that everyone that's transgender could go to and have a fair game or activity. I just think there is a difference in DNA. I just think that women really need to be with women. And men need to be with men. I think that makes it fair. That is just my personal beliefs. Other places, you know whatever, but I just think in sports and community I just don't agree with it just because physically women are not as strong as men." Mahomes has not been afraid to share her opinions. She expressed full support for Trump's reelection bid in November and was excited to have him go to New Orleans to watch the Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. Patrick Mahomes' mom Randi gives scathing verdict on transgender athletes in women's sports: 'It's not fair'
After first supporting Donald Trump 's candidacy in the 2024 national election, Patrick Mahomes ' mother Randi is now weighing in on one of the President's signature issues: Transgender athletes in girls and women's sports. '… as a female, I think that it's not a fair matchup,' she told Outkick Sports. Randi insisted she was not using the issue to stigmatize transgender people. Instead, the mother to two grown sons and a teenage daughter said she was concerned transgender girls and women would have a genetic advantage. 'I love everyone, but when it comes to physical strength and just our DNA, I don't think it's fair — because I do have a daughter, and I do have a son,' she said. 'As you develop, there is a difference. … 'But I just think there is a difference in DNA, unfortunately or fortunately. And I just think that women really need to be with women, and men need to be with men.' Randi usually posts about her family and faith on social media, but has forayed into gender issues on X. During the Paris Games, when Algeria's Imane Khelif defeated Italian boxer Angela Carini en route to Olympic gold, Randi echoed support for the woman defeated by an allegedly transgender fighter. 'This is Angela Carini,' read the message reposted by Randi. 'We say HER name. This is the woman boxer who was failed by the world. She isn't crying because she lost. Boxers don't cry. She is crying due to the horrible unfairness of it all. I cry with her. #IStandWithAngelaCarini.' Randi's son Patrick hasn't forayed into public political discourse, but his wife Brittany did 'like' a post defending Trump on social media ahead of the 2024 election. Then in November, Randi was seen wearing a MAGA hat in a social media post. Trump has reciprocated by showering Patrick with praise and predicting his Chiefs would beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. And while Trump was wrong about that, his admiration for the quarterback was well received. 'It's always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting President,' Mahomes told reporters ahead of Super Bowl LIX. 'Someone that is at the top position in our country. 'It's cool to hear that he's seen me play football and respects the game that I play.'

Patrick Mahomes' Mom Shares Major Life Update on Monday
Patrick Mahomes' Mom Shares Major Life Update on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Fresh off a franchise-record 15-2 regular-season in 2024, the Kansas City Chiefs marched confidently through the AFC before overcoming the Buffalo Bills, 32-29, in the AFC Championship Game. Advertisement Their quest for an unprecedented "three-peat" fell just short with a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, yet they remain one of the NFL's elite franchises. At the heart of this modern dynasty stands quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the face of the franchise since taking over in 2018. However, on Monday, it was his mother, Randi Mahomes, who stole headlines as she celebrated her brand-new Texas home. Posting on X, Randi Mahomes wrote, "My heart is so full. Yesterday, my friends and family came together to bless my new home. We laughed, we prayed, we shared memories I'll hold onto forever. Thank you to everyone who made the day so special. ♥️." A two-time NFL MVP and three-time Super Bowl MVP, Mahomes completed 5,097 passing yards and 50 touchdowns in his first year as a starter, joining Peyton Manning as the only quarterbacks to throw for 5,000+ yards and 50+ touchdowns in a season. Advertisement Since then, he has earned six Pro Bowl nods, three Super Bowl rings and a placement in conversations about the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Behind every superstar quarterback, however, is a support system, and for Patrick, that begins at home with his mother, Randi. Born Randi Martin in Troup, Texas, she was married to former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes, Sr. in the 1990s but divorced in 2006.
