Concerning News About $22 Million Golfer Announced on Friday
Concerning News About $22 Million Golfer Announced on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The LIV Golf Dallas event teed off at the Maridoe Golf Club on Friday, featuring a 54-hole competition with a $25 million purse. But before the event could start, LIV announced sad news about golfer. Advertisement The event took an unfortunate turn for RangeGoats GC, as Matthew Wolff, golfer with $22 million in career earnings, has officially withdrawn from LIV Golf Dallas. The early exit comes amid mounting concerns over an injury. Wolff previously exited LIV Golf Virginia after eight holes due to a muscle strain, an incident that prompted his replacement by Ollie Schniederjans, who shot an impressive 4‑under to help RangeGoats top the team leaderboard. Now, in Dallas, Schniederjans is once again taking Wolff's spot for the remainder of the tournament. Official sources have not yet confirmed the exact nature of Wolff's injury. Advertisement "Wolff is back and ready to bring the heat in Dallas! 🐺🔥" they posted. Even Wolff himself was excited to be back. 'I'm feeling pretty good, actually — some much‑needed rest," Wolff said on Thursday. "I've been working on my body, trying to recover, doing some physical therapy and getting in the gym a little bit." "I'm feeling a lot better and pretty optimistic about the week. I'm continuing to work on my body as well as my game to keep on feeling good.' But disaster struck on Friday. Meanwhile, RangeGoats will lean heavily on players like Bubba Watson, Peter Uihlein and Ben Campbell — plus Schniederjans — as they look to maintain momentum in the team race. Matthew Wolff (injury) WDs from LIV Golf Dallas
June 27 - Matthew Wolff has withdrawn from LIV Golf Dallas on Friday due to an undisclosed injury. LIV Golf League Reserve Player Ollie Schniederjans will replace Wolff on RangeGoats GC at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas. Schniederjans also replaced Wolff two weeks ago at LIV Golf Virginia after the latter sustained an injury in the first round. Wolff, 26, previously competed with Brooks Koepka's Smash GC before he was traded to RangeGoats GC in exchange for Talor Gooch. Koepka reportedly called Wolff's worth ethic into question prior to the swap. Wolff, who had one win on the PGA Tour, finished in second place at the 2020 U.S. Open and tied for fourth at the PGA Championship that year. In another injury swap, Frederik Kjettrup of Denmark was replaced by Max Rottluff of Germany on Cleeks GC. --Field Level Media

LIV Golf Virginia: Joaquin Niemann wins; Crushers GC take team title
GAINESVILLE, Va. — Joaquin Niemann was once again the man to emerge from a crowded leaderboard to claim victory at LIV Golf Virginia. The Chilean shot an 8-under-63 to earn his sixth LIV Golf win, which is the most of any player. On the team leaderboard, Crushers GC earned its eighth LIV win, which is the most of any team. Crushers GC has now won back-to-back team trophies after finishing first at LIV Golf Korea last month. Captain Bryson DeChambeau, Paul Casey, Anirban Lahiri and Charles Howell III have made up the Crushers since the team's inception. The individual leaderboard was jam-packed with superstars, including HyFlyers GC captain Phil Mickelson and DeChambeau, but also featured past major champions looking to win after long droughts. Smash GC's Graeme McDowell and RangeGoats GC captain Bubba Watson were both in contention until the bitter end. The veterans in the mix played well enough, but Niemann showed once again that he's nearly impossible to beat on Sundays when he's in the mix. Lahiri, who was the 36-hole leader, suffered yet another heartbreak. He finished in a tie for 2nd after shooting a 3-under-68. The runner-up was the fifth in Lahiri's LIV Golf career. Martin Kaymer, the 18-hole co-leader, shot a 1-under-70 to finish tied for eighth — his best finish ever on LIV Golf. Ben Campbell of RangeGoats GC set a LIV Golf record for consecutive birdies made in a single round with seven. The Kiwi birdied the 13th hole through the first hole and ended up shooting a 62. Lee Westwood also shot 62 to match Campbell's low round of the week. Westwood's 62 tied his career-low round on LIV Golf. Thomas Pieters of 4Aces GC shot an 8-under-63. Jinichiro Kozuma and Brendan Steele also had impressive Sunday performances and each shot 7-under 64's. Fourteen LIV players will now turn their attention to the U.S. Open next week at Oakmont Country Club before LIV Golf Dallas takes place June 27-29. TEAM SCORES LIV Golf's new scoring format this season now involves all four scores now counting in every round in the team competition. Anirban Lahiri up 2 entering final round at LIV Golf Virginia
Pursuing his first individual win with LIV Golf, Anirban Lahiri of India played a bogey-free second round at 7-under 64 on Saturday and holds a two-shot lead at LIV Golf Virginia on Saturday in Gainesville, Va. A runner-up four times with LIV Golf, Lahiri sank seven birdies and made a 39-foot par putt on No. 16, then finished strong with a par on No. 18 after landing in the rough. On the 18th, he had to get up and down from a distance of more than 100 yards. "Yeah, those felt like birdies as well," Lahiri said of his impressive finish to the day at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. "I think the first 15 holes was about as solid as I could have played. I missed a few putts and I still made quite a lot of birdies. "Then 16, I was trying to hit like an in-between 9-iron and I tried to compress it a little bit too much, and everyone else saw what happened. It was nice to make that putt." Veterans Bubba Watson, Martin Kaymer and Graeme McDowell – who are also chasing their first individual LIV Golf win – are at 9-under par entering Sunday's final round, just two shots behind the leader. "It's always good to be close to the lead, have a chance on the last day," Watson said. "Looking forward to it. Looking forward to the challenge of this golf course. ... You hit your driver good, you hit your irons in the right spots, you have a chance to play this golf course." RangeGoats GC captain Watson birdied Nos. 17 and 18, then closed his round with pars on Nos. 1 and 2 en route to a 6-under 65. Kaymer, who shared the first-round lead with Crushers GC captain Bryson DeChambeau, shot a 4-under 67 to keep himself firmly in the running. Meanwhile, McDowell notched three straight birdies on Nos. 15-17 to put himself in contention with a 5-under 66. He'll play the final round with Lahiri and Watson. "I'm excited to be up there (on the leaderboard)," McDowell said. "I'm excited to give myself probably my first opportunity on LIV. I've underachieved greatly so far in my career out here. Certainly expect more of myself." Joaquin Niemann, DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, the top three in the individual standings, are tied for fifth at 7 under, four shots off the top spot. On the team front, Lahiri and DeChambeau have the Crushers at 21 under par, one up on McDowell's Smash GC squad and well ahead of the other foursomes. — REUTERS
