Alex Scott's acid attack threat, Jess Glynne relationship, 'quit UK for US' plan

Alex Scott will be fronting Soccer Aid this Sunday alongside Dermot O'Leary, but from her love-life to a potential career in the USA, how much do you really know about the footballer-turned-BBC star? Alex Scott is one of the UK's most recognisable presenters. The former Arsenal Women's footballer has made a seamless shift from playing on the pitch to being in the media glare. Scott will be the face of Soccer Aid this Sunday alongside Dermot O'Leary, and her hosting portfolio is something to envy. She has fronted shows including Final Score, Match of the Day, Football Focus and The One Show. ‌ The 40-year-old made her name after playing for the Gunners, Birmingham City and NWSL side Boston Breakers, while she also represented England on 140 occasions. ‌ However, her transition from defender to TV star has not been without some issues. Here we take a closer look at Scott's love-life, her troubles with the BBC and a terrifying ordeal that involved a kidnapping in Russia. Jess Glynne relationship and love-life Scott and ' Rather Be ' singer Glynne have been an item since the summer of 2023. While they kept a low-profile initially, Scott eventually took to social media to share photos of the two, confirming them as a couple. She has also spoken about wanting children with the songstress. However, love didn't come easy for Scott. She has claimed that Glynne, 35, has helped her overcome her fear of forging a connection – something she insists developed in her childhood due to her relationship with her father, Tony, who has denied the claims about his parenting. "We weren't allowed to express emotion," Scott told The Times in June 2024. "Dad didn't allow us to hug each other or say, 'I love you.' It had a huge impact on us all." ‌ She continued: "I remember one of the first times Jess hugged me. I was like… {rigid]. She was like, 'Are you not going to put your arms around me?' But I didn't know how to do that." Scott was previously in a relationship with former England and Arsenal team-mate Kelly Smith. The two were together for eight years prior to their split in 2013 and in her memoir, How (Not) To Be Strong, Scott claimed she was "madly and deeply in love' with the star. Acid attack warning and death threats Scott has candidly spoken about the rough side of being a famous figure. She once opened up on how she has been threatened with an acid attack, and that she was scared to even step outside after she was wrongly named as Sue Barker's replacement on A Question of Sport. ‌ "There are negatives to fame. I've had plenty of racism, abuse and even death threats," she said to The Times. "People were saying, 'She's only on TV because she's black, female and younger. She's just ticking boxes.' I was scared to go out of the house because these trolls were saying they were going to throw acid in my face." However, a deeply unsettling ordeal came as Scott was working for the BBC at the World Cup in Moscow in 2018. Kidnapped by a rogue Uber driver, Scott regaled a tale in her memoir of how a routine 15-minute drive to her hotel unfolded into a nightmare. ‌ After the driver menacingly told her, 'Girls like you, I kill", quick-thinking saw her claim to the driver that she was a friend of Vladimir Putin, after meeting the Russian president earlier in her trip. She told the driver: "If I don't see Putin tomorrow, he will find you," – and it's a sentence that looks to have saved her, as the driver then dropped her off at her destination. Missing out on Match of the Day and USA plans A painful chapter in Scott's life in the media appeared last year prior to being overlooked for the Match of the Day job. Gary Lineker has stepped down from the iconic show after 25 years in the hot seat, and it was a position that Scott was at one stage reportedly the frontrunner for, with BBC bosses wanting to move in a different direction. ‌ However, the gig ultimately went for the experienced trio in Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates, who will all share presenting duties. Rumours also surfaced she had intentions to move across the pond with Glynne to explore other opportunities in her field, following a troubled episode with the BBC that emerged last October. The Sun reported Scott had been left 'hurt' after Football Focus – the show fronted by her – suffered from failing ratings and she wasn't backed by bosses at the Beeb. ‌ She had previously defended herself against talk of dwindling viewers In September 2023 on X, after she claimed figures were in pristine health. But fast forward a year, and a source in October 2024 said: "Alex is now seriously contemplating moving on from the show. Last year she was hugely hurt by unfair criticism about falling viewing figures – and felt she was thrown under a bus. "The viewing figures were not as reported and she feels no-one backed her up and issued the correct viewing figures." On her and Gylnne's move across the pond, the source added that the pair are "contemplating a move to America." As things stand, though, Scott remains in the UK, and will be a focal part of Soccer Aid on Sunday evening on ITV1.

Jess Glynne 'parts ways with record label' after blow with low album sales

Brit Award nominee Jess Glynne is said to have parted ways with record label EMI - which is part of Universal Music Group - after releasing just one album together Singer Jess Glynne has reportedly parted ways with her record label after just one album. It's been suggested that the collaboration didn't go to plan and the BRIT Award nominee is said to be planning her "next moves" already. It was announced in 2022 that Jess, now 35, had signed with EMI - which is a brand within Universal Music Group. She has since released one album, Jess, but it's now been reported that she has parted ways from the record label. ‌ The Sun reports that it comes after the album - which is her third to date - didn't do as well as she had hoped. Unlike her previous albums, which topped the charts in the UK, Jess peaked at Number 6 after its release in April last year. A source told the outlet: "Jess knows plenty about having massive hit singles, so there was a lot of excitement when she signed her deal with EMI Records. But it's not exactly been the fruitful relationship that either had hoped." The source said that the album "didn't do as well" as they had wanted and noted that none of the singles from it managed to break into the Top 40 on the Official Singles Chart in the UK. The source also suggested that she's had a "tough time reintroducing herself" after some time away. "Both she and the label decided it was for the best to stop working together," the source said. They added that Jess "isn't letting it dampen her spirits" and teased she's already planning her "next moves" amid working on new music. Jess first enjoyed success as a featured artist before releasing albums herself. She notably appeared on Clean Bandit's Rather Be and Route 94's My Love, which both topped the charts after being released back in 2014. ‌ The following year, Jess released her debut album, I Cry When I Laugh. It went on to top the Official Albums Chart upon its release in 2015. That album featured the chart-topping singles Hold My Hand and Don't Be So Hard on Yourself. Other tracks on her first album included Ain't Got Far to Go. It was followed by her second album, Always In Between, in 2018. She once again topped the album charts with that release. ‌ Her second album featured the singles I'll Be There, which itself reached Number 1, and other song including Thursday, which peaked at Number 3. The tracklist also included All I Am. More recently, her latest album, Jess - which was her first after signing with EMI - peaked at Number 6 on the Official Album Chart after it was released last year. It featured tracks such as Silly Me and Friend of Mine. The latter, which was the song from the album to chart, reached Number 87 on the Official Singles Chart in November. As well as her chart success over the decade since her debut in the music industry, Jess has received several awards. In her career to date, she's won Ivor Novello Awards and is a BRIT Award nominee.

Jess Glynne 'suffers HUGE career blow' after her first album in six-years flops and crashes out of the charts

Jess Glynne has reportedly suffered a huge blow after her first album in nearly six years failed to reignite her music career. The songstress, 35, who previously scored a whopping seven UK No1s, has parted ways with record label EMI after her third record Jess, which was released in April 2024, debuted at at No6 before crashing out of the charts entirely a week later. Jess signed with the label, who also represent the likes of Taylor Swift and Rihanna, to much fanfare in 2022 but after her first release with them failed to garner any Top 40 singles, their 'less than fruitful' relationship has now come to an end. A source told The Sun: 'Jess knows plenty about having massive hit singles, so there was a lot of excitement when she signed her deal with EMI Records. But it's not exactly been the fruitful relationship that either had hoped. 'The album didn't do as well as anyone wanted, and none of the singles even graced the Top 40 She's had a tough time reintroducing herself to the public after a few years away. Before adding: 'Both she and the label decided it was for the best to stop working together. But Jess isn't letting it dampen her spirits. She is already working on new music and is planning her next moves.' MailOnline have contacted Jess' reps for comment. Jess' previous albums 2015's I Cry When I Laugh and 2018's Always In Between, both topped the UK charts and spawned numerous hit singles. In 2015 she appeared on Clean Bandits' song Rather Be, which won her a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Recording and Ivor Novello Award. She's also collaborated with the likes of Little Mix and Tinie Tempah as well as appearing as a judge on The Voice Australia. Earlier this month Jess shared an insight into her relationship with Alex Scott as she shared a monthly round up of photos. The singer and TV Presenter, 40, who have been romantically linked since October 2023, loved as loved up as ever in the Instagram update. Posing for a selfie the couple stuck their tongues out for a fun photo, while a clip showed them mocking each other in the back of a car. Jess also gave her followers an insight into her recent trips abroad, including on of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. She captioned the carousel of photos: 'March you were an adventure.' Alex recently told how she and Jess have ' become the same person' since moving in together in a rare comment about their relationship. Detailing her daily routine in The Times, Alex wrote: 'I wake up next to my partner, Jess, who has become the same person as me over the past year and a half'. 'She can see what going to the gym does for me mentally, so she'll do the same'. It was recently rumoured that the pair are considering a permanent move across the pond. Alex's future at the BBC has reportedly been thrown into doubt, with sources claiming she's been 'deeply hurt' by a 'lack of support' surrounding Football Focus. The presenter is thought to have made a complaint to channel bosses last year after the their response to criticism she faced around the show's low viewing figures. According to The Sun, Alex is now thought to be 'considering other offers,' and is even contemplate a move to the US with girlfriend Jess, as her BBC contract is up for renewal next year.

Huge Brit pop star suffers major career blow as she splits from record label after latest album flopped

SHE has made history as the British female solo artist with the most UK No1s – an impressive total of seven. But even that hasn't been enough to save Jess Glynne's record deal, as she has split from her label after just one album. 2 Following an unsuccessful album, Jess Glynne has split from record label EMI Credit: Splash 2 Jess with her football pundit partner Alex Scott Credit: Getty The star signed with EMI — which is also home to Taylor Swift and Elton John — to much fanfare in November 2022. However, I've been told they have parted ways after her third album, simply titled Jess, didn't do as well as she had hoped. While her first two records, 2015's I Cry When I Laugh and 2018's Always In Between, both went to No1, this one peaked at No6 in its first week and dropped out of the chart entirely the week after. A music insider said: 'Jess knows plenty about having massive hit singles, so there was a lot of excitement when she signed her deal with EMI Records. 'Planning next moves' 'But it's not exactly been the fruitful relationship that either had hoped. 'The album didn't do as well as anyone wanted, and none of the singles even graced the Top 40. 'But Jess isn't letting it dampen her spirits. 'She is already working on new music and is planning her next moves.' Jess Glynne dances to her hit song with girlfriend Alex Scott The Grammy winner, who is in a relationship with sports pundit and former footballer Alex Scott, scored all of her No1 singles in a four-year period from 2014 to 2018. Her exceptional run started with the Clean Bandit collaboration Rather Be, and was followed by My Love with Route 94, plus her solo singles Hold My Hand and Don't Be So Hard On Yourself. She also topped the charts on the Tinie Tempah song Not Letting Go, as well as a collab with Rudimental and Macklemore called These Days, and, lastly, solo track I'll Be There. It'll be seven years next month since that one took pole position. But I've got every faith she can climb those charts once again in the future.
