Yogandhra grand success in Kurnool
Kurnool: As V Narendra Kumarpart of the Government's vision for a 'Healthy, Prosperous and Happy Andhra Pradesh,' the flagship Yogandhra initiative has been successfully conducted in Kurnool district, registering the highest participation across the State. Marking the International Day of Yoga, the district administration organised a mass yoga session at the Kurnool Outdoor Stadium under the supervision of the Kurnool Municipal Corporation on Saturday.. District Collector P Ranjith Basha, Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil, Joint Collector Dr B Navya, Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Babu, and several district officials, yoga practitioners, students, sanitation workers, employees, and women participated in the event. Addressing the gathering, Collector Basha said that the Chief Minister envisions a healthy, joyful, and prosperous society, and yoga plays a key role in achieving this goal. Highlighting the scale of participation, the Collector said Andhra Pradesh registered over 2.39 crore people for the Yogandhra initiative, with Kurnool alone contributing 12.76 lakh registrations—the highest in the state. Over the past month, various yoga-related activities and training sessions were conducted across the district in more than 5,287 venues, involving people from all walks of life. Competitions at village, mandal, and district levels were organized, with winners advancing to the state-level contests and receiving accolades from the administration. He urged every citizen to make yoga a regular part of daily life and informed that participation certificates are available for all attendees. Speaking on the occasion, Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Babu extended heartfelt gratitude to the students, women, officials, and citizens who actively took part in the program. Later, as part of the third Saturday 'Swachh Andhra - Swarna Andhra' initiative, the Collector led a cleanliness pledge and distributed saplings to promote environmental awareness. The event saw the presence of Kurnool RDO Sandeep Kumar, and educationist KV Subba Reddy, among others.

Let's reduce plastic usage and protect environment: Collector
Kurnool: Emphasizing the urgent need to safeguard the environment, Kurnool District Collector P Ranjith Basha called upon citizens to completely reduce the use of plastic and adopt sustainable alternatives. He was speaking at the World Environment Day celebrations organised by the Pollution Control Board at Sunayana Auditorium on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector underlined the critical importance of environmental conservation and pollution control. He noted that World Environment Day is observed every year on June 5, as declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, with the goal of promoting global awareness and action for the environment. 'This year, the global theme is 'Beat Plastic Pollution', reflecting the worldwide mission to eliminate plastic waste. Everyone must play a role in this effort,' he said. He pointed out that India is among the top consumers of plastic globally, generating around 9.5 million tonnes annually—accounting for one-fifth of global plastic consumption. Expressing concern, he said that plastic has reached not only oceans and land surfaces but also seeped into groundwater and human bodies, increasing the risk of chronic illnesses, including various types of cancer. He appealed to the public to switch to eco-friendly, reusable alternatives, and directed officials to intensify awareness campaigns on the hazards of plastic usage. He also emphasized the need to plant more trees, noting their vital role in maintaining environmental balance. Kurnool Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Babu, addressing the gathering, highlighted how improper waste disposal, particularly plastic being dumped into drains, was obstructing water flow, breeding mosquitoes, and leading to health hazards. Earlier in the day, a massive awareness rally was organised by the Department of Environment from Zilla Parishad Office to the Collectorate, which was flagged off by Joint Collector Dr B Navya. Kurnool RDO Sandeep Kumar, PCB EE Shankar Reddy, DRDA PD Ramana Reddy, Factories Inspector Narayana Reddy, District Science Officer Rangamma, along with students, NGOs, industry representatives, and NCC cadets participated in the programme.

Spl measures taken to ease Kurnool city traffic: Civic chief
Kurnool: In a bid to address traffic congestion within city limits, Municipal Commissioner S Ravindra Babu has announced a series of targeted initiatives. On Wednesday, he inspected construction work of the bypass road at SAP Camp area. Commissioner Ravindra Babu stated that, following the directions of Minister for Industries, Commerce, and Food Processing TG Bharath, a new bypass road is being developed at SAP Camp to help ease heavy traffic flow at the busy Bellary Crossroads. The 130-meter bypass is being connected to the internal roads of SAP Camp, enabling vehicles arriving from Hyderabad to divert near the International Function Hall and reach the RTC Bus Stand directly. The Commissioner added that the project, undertaken at a cost of Rs 85 lakh, is progressing rapidly. The WBM (Water Bound Macadam) road has already been completed, and the central gate has been removed to facilitate smoother traffic flow. He informed that vehicular movement on the route has commenced from Wednesday, and full completion of the bypass is expected soon. Earlier in the day, the Commissioner also visited various areas including Budhavarapeta, C Camp Rythu Bazaar, and Ashok Nagar. At Budhavarapeta grounds in Ward No 15, he inspected beautification works worth Rs 40 lakh. He confirmed that landscaping, walking tracks, and installation of outdoor gym equipment have been completed. Additionally, the Commissioner directed officials to set up a protective barricade near Maremmagudi main sewage canal to prevent public littering. At Rythu Bazaar, he instructed construction of a ramp and roofing sheds. He also ordered removal of waste from Handri river near Anand Theatre and called for greenery development along the riverbanks. City Planner Pradeep Kumar, in-charge SE Sesha Sai, DEEs Manohar Reddy and Srinivas Reddy, Horticulture AD Vijayalakshmi, Building Inspector Anjad Basha, Sanitation Inspectors Anil and Ramesh, and TAEs Mahesh and Ram Mohan and others were present.

Yoga for all: Kurnool hosts mega rally under Yogandhra campaign
Kurnool: Yoga plays a vital role in promoting good health, stated Kurnool Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ravindra Babu during a massive rally on Tuesday. The event, part of the state-wide Yogandhra Campaign, began at Kurnool Outdoor Stadium and concluded at Kondareddy Buruju. Commissioner Ravindra Babu said the Government of Andhra Pradesh launched this initiative to bring yoga into everyday life. As part of the lead-up to International Yoga Day on June 21, a record-setting mass yoga event is being planned at the Visakhapatnam beachfront, where five lakh people are expected to perform yoga in the presence of the Hon'ble Prime Minister. The campaign aims to reach two crore citizens across rural and urban Andhra Pradesh. A curtain-raiser event was held on May 21, marking the start of a month-long yoga awareness drive. Activities have since begun in Kurnool, engaging people from all walks of life, including children, senior citizens, traders, and employees. Yoga instructors have begun training Master Trainers district-wide. A five-day structured program began Tuesday, preparing these trainers to lead yoga sessions across mandals and municipal wards starting June 2. The Commissioner urged public participation in the campaign, calling yoga India's priceless gift to the world. He highlighted its global recognition and the establishment of June 21 as International Yoga Day. Regular yoga practice, he added, enhances overall well-being. The rally witnessed active participation from DSO Raja Raghuveer, SETCO CEO Dr. Venugopal, DSDO Bhupathi Rao, DRDA PD Ramana Reddy, State Yoga Association Secretary Avinash Shetty, Fisheries AD Ranganath Babu, district officials, and the general public.

Kurnool's desilting drive underway
Kurnool: Kurnool city is undergoing a major sanitation and desilting drive under the direction of State Minister for Industries, Commerce, and Food Processing, TG Bharath. In response to his instructions, municipal authorities have launched extensive operations, deploying over 150 additional personnel alongside regular staff to desilt drains across all city wards. With Rs 1.06 crore invested, each ward now has over 15 dedicated workers focused on clearing major sewage lines. A longstanding issue, the Sudda Vagu drain, is finally being addressed using heavy machinery like JCBs and Hitachis. Similar jungle clearance works are ongoing in the Handri river. Desilting debris is being repurposed to construct a bund road from Yellamma Temple to Budhavara Peta Bridge, reflecting the Minister's emphasis on efficient resource use. The KC Canal is also being cleaned on his orders. Following recent rains, water drained swiftly from low-lying areas, drawing praise from residents for the improved sanitation. Municipal Commissioner YS Ravindra Babu urged citizens to dispose of waste only through municipal vehicles and warned against dumping into canals or building over them, citing public health risks. Complaints about garbage collection can be reported at 7422992299. However, NGO Rajendra Prasad Ananta raised concerns about the lack of protective gear for sanitation workers, warning of health hazards from exposure to medical waste, glass shards, and other harmful materials. He called on the municipal corporation to provide gloves, shoes, and protective suits to safeguard workers' health and prevent potential disease outbreaks like Hepatitis-A.
