WWE Announces Massive SummerSlam Match
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A massive tag team match has been made official for WWE SummerSlam. Following a chaotic brawl on Monday Night Raw, Roman Reigns will team with his cousin, Jey Uso, to take on the powerhouse duo of Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. The match was made official through a series of social media posts, culminating in Paul Heyman accepting the challenge on behalf of his clients via a TMZ article. This bout adds a deeply personal story of family and betrayal to the already stacked SummerSlam card. The Challenge Is Made Official The conflict ignited on the July 21st episode of Monday Night Raw. After a heated in-ring confrontation between Roman Reigns and his former manager, Paul Heyman, Breakker and Reed attacked Reigns. Jey Uso then rushed to the ring to save his cousin, leading to a massive brawl that ended with Reigns and Uso standing tall. Following the show, Reigns took to social media to issue a challenge for a tag team match at SummerSlam. Jey Uso quickly accepted, and Heyman, speaking to TMZ, made the match official, telling Reigns to pick which night of the two-night event he wants the match on. A Family Reunited Against A Common Enemy The reunion of Roman Reigns and Jey Uso is a shocking and emotional development in a story that has spanned years. For much of his historic championship reign, Reigns was a tyrannical "Tribal Chief" who tormented and manipulated his cousin. This led to Jey Uso being the first to break away from The Bloodline, sparking a "civil war" that saw them face each other in a brutal "Tribal Combat" match at SummerSlam 2023. Reigns' recent return to WWE television has seen a change in his demeanor. His decision to save Jey Uso on Raw and fight alongside him appears to have healed the deep wounds between the two family members, uniting them against a common enemy. Heyman's New Empire That common enemy is Paul Heyman. After shockingly betraying Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 41, the "Wise Man" has assembled a new force on Raw. He has taken the explosive Bron Breakker and the colossal Bronson Reed under his wing, unleashing them on his former client's allies. Jussie Smollett Speaks in Netflix Doc ‘The Truth About Jussie Smollett?'
Jussie Smollett is participating in a forthcoming Netflix documentary about his infamous hoax case. From Raw, the producers of true-crime hits Don't F**k with Cats, Tinder Swindler and the streamer's Trainwreck series, The Truth About Jussie Smollett?, which is coming to the streamer on Aug. 22, is described as 'a shocking true story of an allegedly fake story that some now say might just be a true story.' Not 'Squid Game' Tom Sheahan and Tim Wardle are executive producers. Along with the Smollett sitdown, the 90-minute doc features interviews with police officials, lawyers, journalists and investigators who claim to have uncovered new evidence about the case and that 'with Jussie himself, this compelling documentary invites the audience to decide for themselves who is telling The Truth About Jussie Smollett?' Director Gagan Rehill said in a statement, 'This story is a thrilling ride, and we were lucky enough to have access to the key players. I wanted this documentary to balance their competing narratives and to also use their compelling, colorful testimonies to thread the light and shade of the story through the film. But much more than that, I wanted this film to speak to the particular moment of rapid cultural change when this takes place in 2019; when, as a society, we were becoming more combative, more polarized, more divergent over our shared reality — when we began to lack a common singular Truth.' Smollett, who broke out on Fox's Empire, was famously accused of faking a homophobic attack in Chicago in 2019. He was found guilty in December 2021 by a jury for felony disorderly conduct for falsely reporting to police that he was the victim of a hate crime. He served six days of a five-month jail sentence in 2022 before he was released pending an appeal. In November 2024, he then had his conviction overturned by the Illinois Supreme Court, with a judge ruling that a second prosecution after the case had already been resolved was a violation of his right to due process. Smollett has maintained his innocence in interviews, as he returned to the film industry. WWE wrestler spotted wearing League of Ireland jersey
WWE wrestler Sami Zayn has gone viral after he was spotted wearing a Bohemians jersey during a WWE programme. Bohs turned heads internationally with the launch of their new strip, a sky blue jersey with the Oasis logo on it. Today's top videos STORY CONTINUES BELOW While the team won't be wearing the jerseys until the next round of the cup (which coincides with the band's return to Dublin on week ending August 17), that hasn't stopped them from appearing in other spaces; with Canadian pro wrestler Sami Zayn wearing the jersey in a backstage segment. Advertising his match later on in the night against Karrion Kross, Sami walked into the building stoically, but people couldn't help but recognise the jersey. 'Sami Zayn is Bohs,' the league's official account tweeted, while on Twitter (X), people were just as surprised. 'Does Sami zayn have a bohs shirt on??' one tweeted, while another joked that Sami will face Bray wrestler Finn Bálor next Monday on Raw, with Sami wearing that jersey while Finn wears a Bray Wanderers shirt. Pic: Netflix Sami wrestled on the indies for over a decade before signing for WWE, where he is best known for his work on the independent circuit, including in Ring of Honor and Chikara, as El Generico. When he signed for WWE, he began performing as Sami Zayn (El Generico didn't sign as he was busy building orphanages in Mexico), he won the NXT Championship on the company's then developmental brand NXT, before winning the Intercontinental Championship and tag team championship with his best friend and better enemy Kevin Owens. While he hasn't been advertised for when Smackdown comes to Dublin in August, the company has another Bohs fan in the locker room: namely Sheamus, with the Dubliner having previously worn the red and black stripes. Bohs will be wearing the jersey during their cup games, with them being sponsored by Oasis as the band go on their reunion tour. Pic: Bohemian FC The four-time WWE Champion, who was born in Cabra, also appeared on BohsTV in 2016, talking about his favourite memories in Dalymount — including when he was at a friendly match when Bohs lost 2-0 to Manchester United in 1990.

Here's our review and grades for tonight's show, live from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. WWE Raw Card: CM Punk Returns Roman Reigns Addresses Paul Heyman WWE Women's Tag Team Championship Match: Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez (c) vs. Bayley & Lyra Valkyria Becky Lynch has a SummerSlam Proposal for Lyra Valkyria Sami Zayn vs. Karrion Kross Rusev vs. Sheamus World Tag Team Championship Number One Contenders Match: The New Day (Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston) vs. The Creed Brothers (Brutus & Julius Creed) vs. The LWO WWE Raw Results: The Judgement Day and several other Superstars are shown arriving for the show. The Number One Contender CM Punk notes that he is the number one contender, and he promises to leave it all in the ring at SummerSlam. Punk puts over the current World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther, as a beast and notes that he will win the championship because Punk is the best in the world. Gunther interrupts. Punk and Gunther stare daggers at each other while the crowd alternates between cheering for Punk and booing Gunther. As Gunther speaks, the crowd drowns him out with boos and 'you tapped out chants.' Read More: Gunther says he didn't come out here to throw insults at Punk or create drama. Gunther notes that they are similar in many ways. They both have massive egos, but Gunther's is justified. Gunther's ego isn't based on what the WWE Universe thinks; that's useless. His ego is based on accomplishments and reality. Gunther promises to drop Punk like a wet towel. Punk will never be the champion or the best in the world. At least Punk will have these degenerates chanting for Punk for the rest of his life. Gunther drops the mic and walks away. Grade: B- Punk wasn't exactly hitting on all cylinders tonight, stumbling a bit while kicking off his promo. When Gunther hit the ring, business picked up, and Gunther dropped the mic on Punk. Punk looked on like a proud dad as Gunther walked away, leaving flame footprints. Rusev vs. Sheamus Sheamus attempts the Brogue Kick as soon as the bell rings. Rusev avoids it, and the fight spills out of the ring. Sheamus and Rusev pound on each other out on the floor. The fight transitions back into the ring, and Rusev lands a suplex. Rusev is irate, yelling at Sheamus to just quit. Sheamus begs for Rusev to hit him. Rusev stomps Sheamus out. Rusev removes the turnbuckle pad. Sheamus blocks Rusev's attempt to post him and drives Rusev's head into the exposed turnbuckle. While the referee replaces the turnbuckle pad, Rusev grabs Sheamus' Shelalgiegh. Before Rusev can strike, Sheamus lands a Brogue Kick for the win. Winner- Sheamus Grade: B These two beat the crap out of each other. This was a fun watch, but not as interesting as Sheamus and Rusev's match a few weeks ago. Hopefully, this will not be the last time these two beasts attempt to murder each other live on Netflix. World Tag Team Championship Number One Contenders Match: The New Day vs. The Creed Brothers vs. The LWO Julius suplexes Woods and Wilde at the same time. Kingston and Woods Unicorn Stampede Del Toro. After the break, everyone lands a big move, leading to a series of hot tags. Wilde clears the ring. Wilde rolls up both members of New Day, but Woods and Kingston both kick out. Nile pushes Wilde off the top before he can land a dive. Dragon Lee attacks the Creeds. El Grande Americano attacks Lee. The Creeds yell at Americano. Del Toro lands a corkscrew dive. Wilde rolls up Kingston for the win. Winners- The LWO Grade: B Fun tag match with an unpredictable ending. It would be nice to see someone with the tag titles not named The Judgement Day or New Day. Maybe, just maybe. It's the LWO's time. What do you all think? Let us know in the comments! Backstage, Stephanie Vaquer gets into it with IYO SKY, leading to SKY challenging Vaquer to a match tonight. Backstage, Grayson Waller tells Kingston and Woods that since Austin Theory is injured, he is free of the dead weight and can offer his services to them. Kingston and Woods aren't exactly thrilled, but they accept his offer to at least go get the car. Becky Lynch suggests that if Lyra Valkyria loses at SummerSlam, she can never challenge for the Women's Intercontinental Championship again. Valkryia says she hasn't taken this thing far enough, so she agrees, but the match must be no disqualification; there has to be a winner. Lynch demands a handshake. Valkyria Manhandle Slams Lynch. Grade: C+ WWE Women's Tag Team Championship Match: Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez (c) vs. Bayley & Lyra Valkyria Bayley tries to solve Rodriguez to no avail. Bayley aggressively tags in Valkyria, who lands a flurry of offense on Rodriguez. After a bit of back and forth. Bayley tags back in and asks Valkyria to help her with a suplex. Kross pins Zayn. Winner- Karrion Kross Grade: B- Fun TV match. Zayn and Kross's feud has been entertaining, and seeing Kross get the win is a welcome change. Also, extra points for Scarlett getting involved for the finish. IYO SKY vs. Stephanie Vaquer SKY and Vaquer trade submission holds and pin attempts. Neither woman can get the advantage, leading to a stalemate. Vaquer sets up the Devil's Kiss, but SKY counters with a roll up for a near fall. SKY sends Vaquer out of the ring. Suicide dive by SKY. SKY misses an Asai moonsault. Vaquer superkicks SKY. Waquer lands a springboard crossbody to the floor. After the break, Vaquer lands a double underhook lungblower. SKY traps Vaquer in a crossface. Vaquer gets to the ropes and rolls out. Asai moonsault by SKY. Missile dropkick by SKY. The fight spills out to the apron. SKY tries a sunset flip bomb. Vaquer puts on the brakes and drops a knee on SKY's throat. That was vicious. Devil's Kiss out on the apron by Vaquer. Vaquer rolls SKY into the ring and hits another Devil's Kiss. Winner- Stephanie Vaquer After the match, Vaquer and SKY clear the ring. Naomi hops the barricade and pushes SKY into Vaquer. Naomi beats down SKY. Rhea Ripley makes the save. Green eats a Riptide for her troubles. Grade: A This was the match of the night. SKY and Vaquer's chemistry is insane. They counter each other effortlessly, and each near fall was more harrowing than the next. It's a shame that we got another screwy finish, but at least it made sense. His Name is Paul Heyman 'The Oracle,' Paul Heyman puts over Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker. Heyman notes that before 'he' comes to the ring, Heyman has a bunch to get off his chest. Roman Reigns' music hit, giving Heyman no time to filibuster. Reigns stares a hole through Heyman as the crowd chants, 'OTC!' Heyman doesn't want to be disrespectful or rude, like someone born in Texas. Heyman says Rollins is going to be out of action for a long time, so that means there is a leadership void. Reigns scoffs. Heyman tells Reigns to look who comes with him (Reed/Breakker) if Reigns agrees. Heyman notes that they are better together than apart, and he loves his Tribal Chief. Reigns tells Heyman to hold that thought and tells the crowd to acknowledge him. Heyman puts up a one. Reigns laughs. A few years ago, Reigns would have said what Heyman just said were wise words from a wiseman, but Heyman isn't a wiseman. Heyman is a dumbass. Breakker bows up. Heyman holds Breakker back. Reigns tells, 'Jr,' to simmer down. Reigns tells Breakker that in a few years, when Breakker is the man, Heyman will do the same thing to Breakker that he did to Reigns. Reigns says Heyman will try to take all the credit, but he didn't help Reigns keep the championship. It was The Usos, Solo Sikoa, and even Sami Zayn who helped out. Reigns notes that Heyman thought the Bloodline was just some faction he could create, but the Bloodline is family. Only god can create that. The thing that really bothers Reigns is that Heyman was just a friend of the family, but Reigns made him a part of the family. Reigns didn't ruin the Bloodline, this dumbass did (points at Heyman). Breakker steps up, and Heyman hands him a mic. Breakker tells Reigns to look around because they don't want or need him anymore. Breakker runs down Reigns. Breakker says he knows Heyman won't stab him in the back, because he has value. Reigns is worthless. Breakker is the man now, dawg. Read More: Breakker tells Reigns to do what he does best: turn around and leave. Reigns says he has to be honest, he didn't hear anything Breakker just said. Reigns tells Breakker to say it all again and use his mic. Reigns floors Breakker with a Superman punch after tossing his mic at him. Reigns ends up getting Speared by Breakker. Breakker holds Reigns in place for a Tsunami, but Jey Uso makes the save. Grade: B Solid segment, but a bit on the long side. They could have gotten to the brawl with just half of all that dialogue. WWE Raw Review: Tonight's show featured solid in-ring action, with Stephanie Vaquer vs. IYO SKY getting match of the night honors despite its screwy finish. The closing promo tonight from Roman Reigns was long, but solid. The build to SummerSlam is happening at a breakneck pace, as the show is just two weeks away. Some of this feels rushed, but the quality of the promos and matches has gotten consistently better over the last few weeks. What do you all think? Let us know in the comments below! WWE Abruptly Splits Up Popular Tag Team
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The WWE tag team of A-Town Down Under is officially over. On the July 21st episode of Monday Night Raw, Grayson Waller announced that his partner, Austin Theory, has suffered an injury and that their team is finished, before delivering a scathing promo on social media. This split brings an end to a partnership that has been teased with dissension for well over a year. Waller made it clear he has no sympathy for his now-former partner. Waller's Scathing Message Following the on-screen announcement, Grayson Waller took to social media to send a direct and insulting message to the injured Austin Theory. He claimed that he "saved" Theory's career and that their partnership was a waste of his own time. "You should be celebrating the fact that Big G, Grayson Waller, saved Austin Theory's career," Waller began. "Remember two years ago when John Cena buried him alive on Monday Night Raw, I watch it all the time, it's one of my favorite Raw moments of all time. Imagine where he'd be without Grayson Waller." More news: WWE News: Steve Austin Reveals Real-Life Vince McMahon Confrontation He continued, "I just wasted two years of my career making you relevant, and now that that's done, I can finally remind everyone just who Grayson Waller is." Appolo crews and Titus battle in the ring during the WWE show at Zenith Arena on may 09, 2017 in Lille north France. / AFP PHOTO / PHILIPPE HUGUEN Appolo crews and Titus battle in the ring during the WWE show at Zenith Arena on may 09, 2017 in Lille north France. / AFP PHOTO / PHILIPPE HUGUEN The Infamous John Cena Promo Waller's comments refer to a now-legendary promo segment on the road to WrestleMania 39. During their verbal confrontation, John Cena brutally ran down Austin Theory, questioning his authenticity and telling him that the fans did not care about him. Many fans and critics believe the promo was so harsh that it legitimately stalled Theory's momentum as a rising star. Waller is now using this famous moment as the foundation for his new rivalry with Theory. He claims that by teaming with him, he gave Theory a WrestleMania moment by winning the tag team titles and made him relevant again. A Partnership Built On Tension The breakup of A-Town Down Under has been a long time coming. The team of two arrogant heels was formed in 2023, and while they found success, there was always underlying tension. They captured the SmackDown Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 40 in a chaotic six-pack ladder match. Throughout their reign and in the months since, WWE has consistently teased a split. The two would often argue, show jealousy towards one another, and accidentally cost each other matches. Now, with Theory on the shelf with an undisclosed injury, Waller has used the opportunity to officially end the partnership on his own brutal terms. When Theory eventually returns, a heated feud between the two former champions is inevitable. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports
