LIV Golf takes another swing at world ranking points

Mandatory Credit: Raymond Carlin III-Imagn Images/File Photo LIV Golf is making a fresh bid to crack the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) after striking out two years ago, setting up another potential showdown over the Saudi Arabia-backed circuit's place in professional golf's pecking order. LIV Golf's request two years ago was unanimously rejected by OWGR due to concerns about the unconventional 54-hole format with no cuts while the events featured the same 48 players all season. They formally withdrew an application to have players receive world ranking points from its tournaments in March last year but OWGR said they received a new application on June 30 and had commenced a review process. "The OWGR Board is committed to a thorough evaluation process of all applications," Trevor Immelman, the chairman of the OWGR board of directors, said in a statement on Friday. "LIV's application will be reviewed in accordance with OWGR's criteria to ensure fairness, integrity and consistency." The stakes are high for LIV's star-studded roster as world rankings play a key role in determining entry into golf's four majors. The lack of ranking points has seen LIV Golf players tumble down the rankings, with former world number one Dustin Johnson now ranked number 957 in the OWGR. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. Golf-LIV Golf and HSBC announce multi-year partnership

Mandatory Credit: Raymond Carlin III-Imagn Images/File Photo (Reuters) -LIV Golf and HSBC announced a multi-year partnership on Thursday that will see the London-headquartered bank become the official international banking partner of the Saudi-backed league and sponsor two of its 13 teams. The partnership with HSBC will span the entirety of LIV Golf's 14-event season and start with this week's LIV Golf Andalucia event at Real Club Valderrama in Spain. It also includes team-specific support for twice major champion Bryson DeChambeau's Crushers GC team as well as the Majesticks GC squad that is co-captained by Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson. "HSBC's track record in supporting and advancing the game of golf is inspiring and admirable, and we are proud to welcome them into LIV Golf's growing roster of global partners,' LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil said in a press release. LIV Golf, which attracted some of the sport's biggest names through mega-money contracts and lucrative purses, is currently in its fourth season with five events remaining on the 2025 schedule. But, on the bright side, whoever attended the game received a free karaoke show. The Avalanche were up 1-0 with about five minutes left in the middle frame, when the song 'Higher' by the band Creed was playing on the speakers. However, when the song cut out, the crowd wasn't done enjoying the music. In the clip above, it's a little tricky to distinguish the song playing from the announcers and the noise made by the crowd. When the speakers cut out and stop playing the song, though, the crowd displayed their knowledge of the hit song with enthusiasm. Advertisement Creed is preparing to launch a North American tour. The world-famous band is making an appearance at the Stagecoach Festival on Saturday, April 26th. Their new tour begins July 9th in Lexington, Kentucky and culminates in Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada.
