Lack of data hampered Hakim Danish, says team boss
KUALA LUMPUR: A lack of wet weather data held back Hakim Danish Ramli at the French round of the FIM JuniorGP World Championships (JrGP) yesterday (July 6), says his team principal Zulfahmi Khairuddin. Danish (SIC Racing MSI) crashed in the second lap of the race at Magny-Cours but was able to rejoin, albeit with a damaged bike. He went on to finish a lowly 29th in the race which was won by Brian Uriarte (UAX Seventytwo Artbox). Rico Salmela (Estrella Galicia 0'0) and Joel Esteban (CF Moto Aspar Junior Team) were second and third. Zulfahmi admitted it was a challenging weekend for Danish, who had also crashed during qualifying on Saturday (July 5). "There had not been any rain earlier in the week so it was quite challenging for Danish to race in the wet here," said Zulfahmi today (July 7). "I believe Danish can be strong in the wet (with a good set up). But it was tough for the team to set up the bike as we did not have any wet weather data from this track. "Danish tried his best but struggled to get a good feeling with the bike. We tried making some changes on the grid but it was not enough. "Unfortunately Danish crashed in the second lap. It was disappointing, however, that is just how it is in racing sometimes. "We will continue to focus on improving in our upcoming races." Danish (38 points) dropped from fourth to sixth in the overall JrGP standings after the race. Uriarte leads the championships on 81 points with four rounds remaining this season. Salmela (68 points) and Esteban (50 points) are second and third overall. Aragon will host the next round of the championship on July 27 (two races). Danish will now shift his focus to the Red Bull Rookies Cup (RBR) which will head to the Sachsenring this weekend (July 12-13). Danish currently leads the RBR championship race.

Hakim Danish dedicates Aragon win to all Malaysians
KUALA LUMPUR: Motorcycle racer Hakim Danish Ramli is on track to becoming the first-ever Malaysian to win the Red Bull Rookies Cup title. With the season nearing the halfway mark, Hakim consolidated his position atop the championship standings after winning his first race of the season in Aragon, Spain (race two) yesterday (June 8). The 17-year-old now has 125 points to his name. Spanish duo Brian Uriarte (95 points) and Benat Fernandez (63 points) are second and third in the championship. Hakim dedicated his victory in Aragon, Spain to all Malaysians. Uriarte (+0.188s) and David Gonzalez (+0.195s) finished second and third in race two. "Obviously I'm really happy to win the race as it was quite challenging," said Hakim. "My tyre grip was fading so I had to manage it carefully and try my best to remain patient while staying with the lead group. "On the second last lap I made a mistake and forgot to downshift one more gear. I got overtaken and went down to seventh position. "I quickly focused on catching up and during the last corner was able to get on the throttle earlier and hit the line first. "Thank you to everyone who has supported me, this win is for all Malaysians." With four rounds and eight races remaining this season, the championship fight is far from over though Hakim's consistent performances this season will put pressure on his rivals. The Terengganu-born finished second in all his first five races of the season before winning yesterday. The Red Bull Rookies Cup is one of the key feeder series for the Moto3 World Championship. Former champions in the series who have gone on to shine include Johann Zarco, Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta, among others Last month Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif disclosed that Hakim essentially has a seat waiting for him in Moto3 next season but must first prove himself worthy of the slot. Hakim is a product of SIC's two-wheel talent development programme which is run by ZK Racing. Mugello will host the next round of the Red Bull Rookies Cup on June 21-22.

Hakim storms to superb win in Aragon
Hakim Danish won his first race of the season in Race 2 of Round 3 of the Red Bull Rookies Cup in Aragon, Spain. PETALING JAYA: Hakim Danish Ramli made it a Hari Raya Haji celebration to remember after an incredible comeback effort to win Race 2 of the third round of the Red Bull Rookies Cup at Aragon Circuit in Spain. The 17-year-old ran wide with four laps to go but somehow managed to force his way back to the top three with one lap to go in Race 2 yesterday. Hakim's tenacity paid off as he overtook main rival Brian Uriarte, who was only 01.88s behind, on the last corner of the final lap to claim his first win of the season in 26:52.773s. Another Spanish rider David Gonzalez took third place. Hakim thus completed a wonderful Hari Raya Haji weekend on Spanish soil, having taken second place in Race 1 behind Uriarte on Saturday. Hakim was visibly delighted with what he achieved after what seemed like a hopeless outcome when he fell to seventh place after running wide. "It was my only chance and I somehow pulled it off. Finally I managed to get first place. Today's race was great and quite difficult. The tires wore out quickly but I managed to control it. "I would like to express my immense gratitude to my sponsors, family and all my friends who have always supported me. Happy Eid Al-Adha to all Malaysians," said Hakim. Hakim, who has finished thus far on the podium in all six races of the championship, extends his position as the overall leader with 125 points, having a 30-point advantage over Uriarte in second position. The next round will be held in Mugello, Italy from June 21-22.
