Everything you need to know about GTA 6 as game listed on Xbox early
Rockstar isn't due to release Grand Theft Auto 6 until May 2026, but Xbox players were shocked to find that the world's most anticipated game was available to download from the Xbox Store a full 11 months ahead of its launch. It was too good to be true, of course. The surprise 328MB download turns out to be a placeholder file, designed to allow Rockstar Games to automatically pre-install the game to Xbox consoles when it does eventually launch next year. Rockstar hasn't even opened pre-orders for GTA 6 yet, but the frenzy around a dummy Xbox download is the latest indication of just how excited fans are to get even the faintest whiff of the game. Why was 'GTA 6' delayed? The CEO of Take-Two, which owns Rockstar Games, has confirmed why the decision was made to delay the release of Grand Theft Auto 6. The game was pushed back from its initial release window of Autumn 2025 to 26 May 2026, and Zelnick said it's because of how 'complex' the game is, describing the delay as a 'worthy investment'. In prepared remarks ahead of an earnings call, Zelnick said: 'I believe affording Rockstar additional time for such a groundbreaking project is a worthy investment. GTA 6 began development in earnest in 2020 following the massive success of Red Dead Redemption 2, and the title is now the most anticipated entertainment property of all time. 'The ambition and complexity of GTA 6 is greater than any previous Rockstar title, and the team is poised to release another astonishing entertainment experience that will exceed players' expectations.' This explanation comes after Rockstar released the second trailer for GTA 6 on 6 May, which had the biggest video launch in history with more than 475 million views across all platforms in its first 24 hours after release. It gave a fresh glimpse of protagonists Lucia and her partner – now confirmed to be named Jason – tearing through the Florida-inspired Vice City. It's the first trailer since the first teaser from December 2023, which shattered YouTube records and has since racked up more than 250 million views itself. The delay itself came on 2 May, shortly after Zelnick hinted a slip was possible despite earlier confidence in a 2025 launch window. While GTA 6 is now on the back burner until 2026, Borderlands 4, which was announced at the same time, is still scheduled to arrive in September. So, what do we know about GTA 6? When is the game releasing? And how much could it cost? We've got all the details about the upcoming instalment of the franchise. 'GTA 6' release date and trailer 2: When will the game launch? The long-awaited second trailer for GTA 6 recently landed, giving fans a fresh look at Vice City and our two new protagonists, but it came with a dose of disappointment. Rockstar officially confirmed that the game won't be arriving in 2025 as originally promised. Instead, it's now set to launch on 26 May 2026, according to a statement shared on the publisher's social media channels. It's not the first time Rockstar has delayed a major release. Take Red Dead Redemption 2, for example. The first teaser for that game arrived in October 2016 with a planned launch in the second half of 2017. It was then delayed twice, first to early 2018, and finally released on 26 October 2018 – a full two years after the teaser dropped. The timeline now looks similar for GTA 6. The game's first trailer debuted in December 2023, promising a 2025 release window. But with the new date set for May 2026, Rockstar appears to be following a familiar pattern. Timeline of 'GTA 6' release date delays Rumours of a GTA 6 delay began circulating in March 2024, when a report from Kotaku revealed insiders at Rockstar believed the game would be pushed to late 2025 or even early 2026. According to the report, development had started to 'fall behind,' with Rockstar leadership concerned the studio wouldn't hit its original target. Just a month earlier, in February 2024, Rockstar mandated a full return to the office for its staff. While the company cited quality and security as reasons, sources told Kotaku it was also driven by mounting pressure to stay on schedule. At the time, Kotaku reported that while early 2025 had once been possible, the studio was now aiming for an Autumn 2025 launch – a sentiment echoed by Zelnick during earnings calls throughout the year. In December 2024, Zelnick teased the game as 'extraordinary and worth waiting for,' adding that it would be 'breathtaking.' That timeline was finally upended when Rockstar officially confirmed the delay and set a new release date of 26 May 2026. The news came just ahead of the release of GTA 6 's second trailer, giving fans a new glimpse at the game's setting and characters. Zelnick has also given recent interviews where he's said when a specific release date is given, it's historically been met in relation to other titles. 'GTA 6' location: Where is Vice City? The second trailer for GTA 6 confirms the game is set in the state of Leonida – Rockstar's fictional take on Florida. Vice City sits at the centre of it all, returning as the main location. This time around, the city looks bigger, more detailed and far more grounded in modern-day culture than the 1980s version seen in previous games. While Vice City still has the flashy beachfronts and neon lights, it now includes everything from pastel hotels and late-night strip clubs to busy roads, local businesses and viral-style social media clips. Areas like Ocean Beach, Little Haiti and the Tisha-Wocka flea market all appear to be part of the city. Landmarks like the VCI airport and Port VC show up again, hinting at a much larger, more complex map. The game will also include locations like the Leonida Keys – a tropical island chain – and Grassrivers, a sprawling swamp region. There's Port Gellhorn, a faded coastal town with run-down shops and motels, and Ambrosia, which is dominated by a sugar refinery and a biker gang. Mount Kalaga, a mountainous rural area in the north, rounds things out. While Vice City is the headline location, GTA 6 is shaping up to be much more than a city map. The wider state of Leonida looks like a vast world, with plenty to explore outside the city. There is speculation that the inclusion of Mount Kalaga and the mention of Gloriana, which could be a fictional state based on neighbouring Georgia, means the game will expand beyond Leonida too. 'GTA 6' story and characters: Who will be the main protagonists in the new game? Rockstar recently released character bios for GTA 6. The two main protagonists are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Jason is a former soldier working for local drug runners in the Keys, while Lucia has just been released from Leonida Penitentiary and is looking for a way to turn her life around. Cal Hampton is Jason's friend and an associate of Brian Heder. He is described as living 'at the low tide of America' and spends his time listening to Coast Guard communications while drinking at home. Brian Heder is a veteran drug smuggler from the Keys. He runs a boat yard with his third wife, Lori, and is allowing Jason to live rent-free at one of his properties in exchange for help with local shakedowns. Boobie Ike is described as a Vice City legend who owns a strip club, recording studio and property portfolio, while Dre'Quan Priest is said to be an aspiring music mogul who runs Only Raw Records and is focused on building his label's reputation in the local music scene. Real Dimez is a rap duo made up of Bae-Luxe and Roxy. They are described as using their time shaking down dealers to fund their music careers and grow their social media following. They are signed to Only Raw Records. Raul Bautista is described as a seasoned bank robber who is always on the hunt for new talent. How much is 'GTA 6' going to cost? There's still no official price, and Take-Two bosses refused to be drawn on revealing how much it will cost despite being asked about it by investors during the most recent earnings call. While rumours have suggested the game could cost up to $150 (£120) due to its reported $1bn to $2bn budget, that seems unlikely. The price of games is rising, though, with Nintendo the first to up the price of one of its star digital games to $80 (£75) with Mario Kart World. Microsoft confirmed it will be following suit and doing the same with some of its first-party titles over the pre-Christmas shopping period. There has been speculation Rockstar is likely to follow suit, however Mafia: The Old Country, published by sister Rockstar company 2K, is being sold at $49.99 (£44.99) and Zelnick said in Take-Two's most recent earnings call the company is focused on giving gamers value for money through its variable pricing model. What console will 'GTA 6' be on, and is 'GTA 6' cross-platform? GTA 6 is officially coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on 26 May 2026. Rockstar has not confirmed a PC release, and there's no mention yet of a version for PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch 2. A PC version will likely come later, based on Rockstar's usual release pattern. Cross-platform play has not been confirmed. Rockstar hasn't said anything specific about the Nintendo Switch 2, but Zelnick has previously said the Switch's audience has broadened and that 'we actually would fully expect to support Switch [2]', though GTA 6 was not mentioned by name. If it does come to the Switch 2, it'll almost certainly be well after the main launch. There's worse news for 4K support and 60fps. In 2024, Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter said the PS5 Pro was unlikely to run GTA 6 at 60fps, explaining that the series has always pushed the CPU hard. Since the PS5 Pro uses the same CPU as the base PS5, experts believe it will likely be locked to 30fps at launch, with possible upgrades later. Tech experts there have since doubled down on these claims after scrutinising the second trailer. While there are currently no deals on the standalone PS5 Slim console, if you buy the console from Very, the retailer will throw in a copy of the PS5 version of GTA 5 for just £10, saving you £10.

From serial killer to bad knees, The Outer Worlds 2 has some ridiculous perks even by RPG standards, including one that just "makes the game pretty unplayable if you happen to choose that"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The Outer Worlds 2 is coming this year, October 29, and it's adding a whole host of weird and wonderful perks so that you can roleplay as a serial killer or someone with bad knees. Bad knees is an in-game flaw that actually made me laugh out loud when it was described during the Outer Wilds 2 direct at Summer Game Fest. It allows you to move faster, but the drawback is when you go from crouching to standing, "your knees are gonna make a loud popping noise that makes it so that, well, everyone around you is gonna hear you." If, like me, you're on the wrong side of 30, you likely know at least one person whose knees do this – chances are, that person is you. It's actually a great roleplay quirk for a stealth character. All that crouch walking must play havoc with your joints – Red Dead Redemption 2 actor Roger Clark did say the hardest part of filming for the game was all the squatting: "three days later my thighs were absolutely killing me." One very cool and slightly cruel perk is serial killer. If you choose it, there's a chance every human you kill will drop a heart, which you can collect to get a permanent boost to your health. If you kill a human who "wasn't hostile" to you, there's a 100% chance of the drop. I'm not sure if this means stealth kills guarantee hearts or you have to kill innocent NPCs, but either way, it's an interesting reward for being a murderer, and another great boon for stealth players; if you do get caught, that extra health will stop you getting put down too quickly. The strangest and most unique flaw revealed so far is sungazer. Quite literally what it sounds like, your character just loves to stare at the sun, and that has permanently damaged their vision. The game will look hazy, and ranged weapon spread will be increased by 100%, making you very inaccurate. It "makes the game pretty unplayable if you happen to choose that," says one developer. While you wait for The Outer Worlds 2 to come out, check out all the upcoming Xbox games.

GTA 6 leak shows new wanted system with smarter police
Source: Rockstar Games There is another GTA 6 leak making waves online that provides a glimpse at perhaps the most sophisticated wanted system in the series to date. Posted by influential fan accounts on social media, the information indicates that Rockstar Games is going all out for a more realistic and engaging law enforcement AI. While as of yet unverified, the leak has generated anticipation among fans, who think that these features have the potential to revolutionize police interactions in open-world games. Leaked wanted system equals smarter cops and strategic richness The leak states that GTA 6's wanted level system will extend way beyond dodging stars. Police response is said to be dynamic based on player behavior, with increased realism and strategic depth. — GTAVI_Countdown (@GTAVI_Countdown) Some of the main leaked features include: Police will be able to interrogate witnesses and suspects at a crime scene Returning to the scene reportedly marks the player as a 'person of interest' with one star Running away from questioning raises wanted level further Playing nice or being cooperative could mean no action by law enforcement beyond that Police units can deploy K9 dogs, tear gas, riot shields, and advanced combat techniques Officers are able to identify your vehicle and set up roadblocks to cut off escape Areas can be cleared of civilians, with police calling for player surrender NOOSE and FIB units attack in waves, intensifying the fight If NOOSE is defeated and there are hostages being held by the player, the FIB can try to negotiate Military employs suppressive fire and grenades and breaks into tactical teams to pin down the players These mechanics work towards building tension and realism so that each police encounter will feel unpredictable and engaging. Fans respond to changes in wanted level and realism in GTA 6 The leak has created a lot of responses within the community. One of the fans posted, "The witness questioning and tactical escalation (dogs, roadblocks, military waves) could really make GTA 6 feel like a living crime world. Excited to see if Rockstar pulls this off, those May 2026 delay rumors might be worth it for this kind of depth." Another posted, "Well if true. Sounds sooo grape and about time we got a wanted system as such." Players are making comparisons to Red Dead Redemption 2's law system and are expecting GTA 6 to expand upon that with more freedom, unpredictability, and repercussions. If the leaked information holds true, GTA 6 could offer the most realistic police system to date in an open-world game. With intelligent AI, tactical escalation, and moral decision-making integrated into every interaction, Rockstar might be on course to create a new benchmark for realism and replayability. As fans eagerly wait for the confirmation, one thing is certain, hopes for GTA 6 have just shot even higher. 5 things GTA 6 can do better than Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a masterpiece. It gave us cinematic storytelling, insane realism, and an open world that felt alive . But let's not ignore the facts: some parts of RDR2 felt too slow, too clunky, or just plain frustrating. With GTA 6 set to launch in May 2026, Rockstar has a golden chance to take the best of RDR2, and level it up . Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Here are 5 things GTA 6 can (and should) do better than RDR2. 1. Make the World Fun AND Realistic RDR2 was crazy immersive, but sometimes... a little too slow . Skinning animations took forever, and Arthur's sluggish pace got tiring fast. GTA 6 can strike a better balance between realism and fun. Let us enjoy the immersive world of Leonida without having to brush our car's tires every five minutes. Give us detail, yes—but keep it snappy . Red Dead Redemption 2s Combat Is NOT Good... 2. Modern Movement and Combat Let's be real: Arthur Morgan's movement was clunky. He'd trip over fences or get stuck in doorways like it was his first day with legs. Combat, while cinematic, often felt stiff and repetitive. GTA 6 can change that. Give us fluid movement like modern action games. Tight gunplay. Smooth cover mechanics. Something that feels fun , not frustrating. Lucia and Jason deserve better mobility than Arthur ever had. 3. Better Urban Chaos Red Dead was great, but you weren't exactly blowing stuff up in Saint Denis. GTA thrives on urban madness — speeding through traffic, launching rockets off rooftops, robbing stores in the middle of rush hour. GTA 6's Vice City and Leonida can give us the dense, reactive cities RDR2 never had. Let us feel like every block has something going on — from street races to cop chases to viral stunts. Bring the mayhem back. GTA 6 Character Customization | Everything We Know! 4. Deeper Customization RDR2 let you dress up Arthur like a cowboy Ken doll, but GTA needs to go next level . Clothes, cars, weapons, apartments, social profiles — we want it all, and we want it personalized. GTA 6 should let players own their criminal lifestyle, from Lucia's fits to Jason's safehouse setup. We're in 2026 — if we can't dye our car seats neon pink and stream it live, what are we even doing? 5. Less Micromanagement, More Fun Feeding your horse, cleaning your guns, trimming your beard — cool the first time, annoying the next 50 . Tired of too many ads? go ad free now RDR2 went hard on realism, but GTA should focus on fun first. Let us skip the chores. Make systems optional. Nobody's logging in to maintain their criminal hygiene. GTA 6 should be about action , not animal grooming. RDR2 walked so GTA 6 can steal a car and speed off into the neon sunset . If Rockstar nails these five things, they're not just making a better game — they're making the best GTA ever.

What if GTA 6 has a dual betrayal ending like Red Dead Redemption 2?
(Image via Rockstar Games) Imagine pouring 60 hours into GTA 6, falling in love with Lucia and Jason's wild, Bonnie & Clyde-style chaos, only to have one betray the other in the final act. Brutal, right? But what if Rockstar really goes there, just like they did with Arthur Morgan's heartbreaking ending in Red Dead Redemption 2? Let's break it down because if GTA 6 has a dual betrayal ending, it might just be the most savage twist in Rockstar history. Rockstar Loves Tragedy (And So Do We) Red Dead Redemption 2 didn't just end; it wrecked us. Dutch turned into a paranoid wreck, Micah was the absolute worst, and Arthur? He died betrayed, broken, but redeemed. Rockstar doesn't do "happy ever after." From Tommy Vercetti to Niko Bellic to Arthur Morgan — every story ends in loss, pain, or a moral gut-punch. GTA 5 gave us three endings, but the one fans call 'the canon' has all three protagonists survive. Red Dead 2? Not so lucky. If Rockstar brings that Red Dead energy into GTA 6 — especially with two characters as emotionally layered as Lucia and Jason — a betrayal ending feels too good (or too evil?) to pass up. Jason and Lucia Will Betray Each other.. (GTA VI Theory) What Would a Dual Betrayal Look Like? Picture this: Lucia and Jason are at the top of their game. The final heist is done. Money's rolling in. Then... Jason gets cold feet. He's seen too much blood. He wants out. But Lucia? She's not done climbing. She sees Jason as a liability. Betrayal 1 - Lucia sets Jason up. Or maybe Jason thinks Lucia's gonna ditch him, so he flips first. Betrayal 2 - A full Romeo & Juliet, but with guns, vaults, and helicopters. The beauty (and cruelty) would be in giving both characters the chance to betray the other, depending on the choices players make. Split endings. Different paths. All tragic. The Canceled Story of GTA VI.. Why This Twist Would Hit So Hard GTA 6 seems like it's going to be a more emotional, character-driven story — less chaos for chaos' sake, more "What would you do to survive?" Lucia's been to prison. Jason's run from his past. They're both survivors. But in Rockstar games, survival comes with a price. A dual betrayal ending would force players to question everything: Who did you side with more? Who do you trust ? Can there even be a 'happy' ending in a world like Leonida? It's the kind of gut-wrenching narrative twist that gets players talking, memeing, and replaying the game just to see what happens the other way. We're Not Ready If GTA 6 goes the Red Dead Redemption 2 route with a betrayal-filled finale, we're in for an emotional wreck of an ending. And honestly? We'd eat it up. After all, this isn't just a game about fast cars and big guns anymore. It's about trust, loyalty, and whether anyone can actually escape the life they chose. So buckle up. The sun might be shining in Vice City, but the ending could be dark as hell . Game On Season 1 kicks off with Sakshi Malik's inspiring story. Watch Episode 1 here
