Red Room reacts as Liverpool pursue Isak and assess Diaz sale

Liverpool Eyeing Isak as Diaz Future Uncertain: Red Room Reacts As Liverpool gear up for another season under Arne Slot, the buzz from The Red Room podcast is impossible to ignore. Grizz Khan returned to hosting duties this week alongside regulars Mo, Lewis, Ben and Mike, all sharing passionate takes on the Reds' transfer moves, their emotional return to football and a potential record-breaking swoop for Alexander Isak. Isak on the Horizon The biggest talking point? Liverpool's concrete interest in Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, with reports suggesting the club are willing to smash their transfer record to sign the Swedish international. Mike summed up the mood perfectly: 'I think we do sign him. I have a really… eternal optimism.' The panel agreed that the pursuit of Isak is more than speculation. Grizz claimed, 'We broke it on Red Room… we will make a bid and target Isak.' Mo was similarly excited, stating: 'Isak is proven. Premier League. 20 goals the last two seasons now.' And crucially, Grizz added, 'Are we really the disorganised Liverpool of the last 18 months? We're not. We're back.' Even Lewis, who said it was never 'Isak or bust,' admitted: 'If we get Isak, there is no doubt in my mind that he will be a bona fide first-team, 20 to 25 goal-a-season striker.' Diaz: Stay or Go? The emotional tug-of-war over Luis Diaz continued throughout the episode. While some fans remain attached to the Colombian winger, the consensus is shifting. Mo gave a measured view: 'If I put the business hat on… you're letting 70 million walk out the door in a couple of years. I think he's going to go.' Lewis added: 'If the money's right and they come in with a slightly increased bid, I will not lose sleep over losing him.' Ben revealed insight from journalist Pipe Sierra: 'Diaz ideally wants to stay, but if he's not getting the contract he wants, he's likely to leave.' Mike was blunt about the contract debate: 'You deserve a contract extension if the contract you're looking for makes sense… I don't think Diaz deserves to be on a similar wage to what a star striker would be on.' Rodrigo as Diaz's Replacement? Should Diaz depart, the name most frequently linked is Rodrygo Goes from Real Madrid. The panel was largely in favour of the Brazilian stepping in. Mike highlighted: 'He'd cause absolute chaos in the Prem. I was concerned when Arsenal were linked with him.' Lewis offered a stat-based argument: 'Top 21% for key passes, top 30 for progressive passes. He's one of the most creatively gifted players from a progressive play perspective.' Ben was on board too: 'If we're going to get Isak, there's absolutely no chance [we're getting Gordon]. So Rodrigo would be my pick.' Still, Grizz had his own view, saying: 'Gordon would torch the Premier League.' But he accepted the reality: 'The chances of us getting Gordon and Isak are zero.'

Money Talks: Jenny Claffey - ‘Affording something doesn't mean you have the money in your bank account'

Having cut her teeth in podcasting as co-host of runaway smash It Galz, Claffey went solo in 2021 with the launch of Red Room, a true crime podcast that dives deep into cults, conspiracy theories and unsolved mysteries. She's also a regular presence on social media, sharing insights and recommendations on various standout attractions in pop culture. On this episode of Money Talks, she pulls back the curtain on the financial highs and lows of content creation, and the determining factors thereof. 'The first year [of the It Galz podcast], actually I think I exactly matched my wage,' she tells host Katie Byrne. 'So, I was like, OK, if I just kept doing this, I'm still making a pretty good wage. And then the next year I think we doubled that. 'We were doing really, really well. I think I always knew that would happen, though, just in terms of how a business goes – you can go really up and then you might go down and then you find somewhere that's a bit more steady. Also, it was hard to gauge because our biggest year was Covid.' Claffey also reveals her spending obsessions and apprehensions, explains how to build an online community, and recalls key financial advice that still pays off today. You can listen to the new episode of Money Talks now and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Naga Munchetty cuts off Charlie Stayt with brutal swipe live on BBC Breakfast

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty didn't hold back in delivering a brutal comment to her co-host. BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty couldn't resist taking a playful dig at her colleague Charlie Stayt this Friday. The presenting duo were discussing the enduring impact of David Lynch, noting that the iconic filmmaker's personal effects are now going under the hammer in a live auction. ‌ Charlie, feeling nostalgic, tried to hum the Twin Peaks theme tune, admitting: "As soon as you say Twin Peaks, in my head I've got..." ‌ Naga chuckled at his musical attempt and when Charlie suggested, "Give it time, you've got to give it time - I think I did it about right!" she swiftly shut him down with a firm, "No don't." She teasingly prodded further: "It says a lot about what's in your head, doesn't it, really?" Unfazed, Charlie retorted with a smile: "It's always in my head." ‌ The pair had been delving into the upcoming auction of Lynch's belongings from his home, which includes memorabilia from his cult classics such as Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead, and The Elephant Man. Naga detailed: "David Lynch, the film director who died earlier this year, obviously famed for Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive, there is an auction of his stuff and because his films are so kind of out there, you can imagine what they were like." ‌ She highlighted some of the more quirky items up for grabs, including coffee machines from the Twin Peaks diner, a log lady ceramic mug complete with a faux log handle, walkie talkies labelled with his name from movie sets, a duo of taxidermied deer heads, and a crimson curtain from the infamous Red Room sequence. Lynch passed away at the age of 78 on January 15, succumbing to cardiac arrest induced by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Confined to his home due to emphysema from his chain-smoking habits, his demise was later linked to the COPD condition he battled. ‌ In an emotional admission last year, Lynch stated on X: "Ladies and Gentlemen, yes, I have emphysema from my many years of smoking. "I have to say that I enjoyed smoking very much, and I do love tobacco - the smell of it, lighting cigarettes on fire, smoking them - but there is a price to pay for this enjoyment, and the price for me is emphysema." He continued in grateful spirits, despite his diagnosis: "I have now quit smoking for over two years. Recently I had many tests and the good news is that I am in excellent shape except for emphysema. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire. I want you all to know that I really appreciate your concern. Love, David." Naga on BBC Breakfast noted that Lynch's personal items such as lighters and ashtrays were up for auction, described as "in a macabre touch". BBC Breakfast airs every weekday starting at 6am on BBC One and iPlayer.

A limited-edition Wes Anderson bar has popped up in Soho

Pastel facades, retro outfits, deadpan expressions, perfect symmetry and Bill Murray. If you know exactly what we're talking about, then you might be interested to know that something new has popped up in London that could be right up your street. In celebration of the quirky director's new film The Phoenician Scheme, a Wes Anderson-inspired bar has opened up at Bob Bob Ricard in Soho. The venue's Red Room has been temporarily transformed into Marseille Bob's, the fictional bar that stars in the movie. Everything from the drinks to the placemats are based on The Phoenician Scheme 's plot, aesthetic, characters and standout lines. Even the waiters will be sporting white blazers, red carnations and fez hats, replicating the costumes worn in the film. Time Out contributing film critic Kaleb Aftab called Anderson's new film 'action-packed espionage caper with a touch of magic' in which he 'blends his signature style with dashes of film noir and action beats'. See exactly what we thought of the movie here. The pop-up's beverage offering includes 'Tycoon on the Rocks', a pipette-served margarita that changes colour (designed to resemble a poison test) and 'Hand Grenade', a twist on a white negroni, nodding to the line 'would you like a hand grenade?'. For those feeling peckish, snacks will be simple but lavish in a 'nod to the film's indulgent aesthetic'. They'll include giant salted pretzels served in silver bowls and tins of smoked Cantabrian anchovies with butter and brown bread. The pop-up opened on May 23 and will be there until June 22 – make a reservation here. And if that's not enough Wes for you, make sure get your hands on tickets for the Design Museum's exhibition 'Wes Anderson: The Archives' opening in November.

David Harbour Addresses Black Widow Character Noticeably Missing From Thunderbolts*, And It's A More Optimistic Answer Than I Expected

The upcoming Marvel movie Thunderbolts* is in many ways a direct follow-up to 2021's Black Widow. Three of the movie's major characters, Yelena, Red Guardian and Taskmaster, debuted in that film, and this is the first time we've seen the latter two since then. It is, of course, not surprising that Scarlett Johansson's Natasha doesn't appear, but considering the rest of Black Widow's 'family' is here, it makes one wonder what happened to Melina. Rachael Weisz joined the Black Widow cast as Melina, a Red Room operative who also played the role of mother to Natasha and Yelena during their days undercover. At the end of Black Widow, the family comes together, but Melina is nowhere to be found in Thunderbolts*. Speaking with THR, David Harbour is surprisingly open that he doesn't know where Melina is, but he absolutely wants to see her back, and has even been talking to Marvel about making that happen. He said… No, [we don't]. I've talked to [Marvel] people about Melina, and I think there's still very much potential for Melina. While Harbour's Alexei and Weisz's Melina were only playing an undercover husband and wife in Black Widow, the movie reveals that there was real affection between the pair, and there's even a Black Widow deleted scene (viewable with a Disney+ subscription) where the two kiss at the end of the movie. But Red Guardian is very clearly a bachelor during Thunderbolts*. While Yelena and Red Guardian are not particularly close in Thunderbolts*, they have remained in touch. It's unclear if the same is true with Melina. It could be that she is simply elsewhere during the events of the film, or there could be something else going on. The fact that Melina isn't anywhere in Thunderbolts* could be an indication that her story is simply seen as over, and the MCU will move on without her, as it has with so many other characters over the years. However, David Harbour thinks there's a real chance we could see Melina again, and he thinks it would certainly make for some real drama for his character. He continued… But I do think that there's potential for Melina's reemergence in some kind of interesting way, and I would love to have her back in Alexei's life. She would add such an interesting complexity. We know that David Harbour and the rest of the Thunderbolts* cast will be joining the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, and as long as Red Guardian and Yelena are a significant part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the door is likely open for a return for Melina. Florence Pugh was in the same interview with Harbour, and it seems clear that both of them would love to see Rachel Weisz return. Maybe it really could happen.
