Red Sea Film Foundation-backed films to premiere at Locarno Film Festival

The Red Sea Film Foundation supported these projects through its Red Sea Fund and Red Sea Souk initiatives. The 78th Locarno Film Festival, which will take place from August 6 to 16, 2025, has selected three films supported by the Red Sea Film Foundation. The selected titles, Irkalla – Gilgamesh's Dream by Iraqi director Mohamed Al-Daradji, Becoming by Kazakh filmmaker Zhannat Alshanova and Exile by Tunisian director Mehdi Hmili, showcase bold storytelling from emerging voices across the Arab world and beyond. Each film received backing through the Red Sea Fund or the Red Sea Souk, initiatives created by the foundation to foster innovative, diverse narratives in global cinema. Irkalla – Gilgamesh's Dream reimagines the ancient Mesopotamian epic through a modern lens, following a diabetic street child who urges his fierce companion Gilgamesh to take him to the mythical underworld, Arkala. Becoming explores themes of identity and self-discovery in contemporary Kazakhstan, tracing a young woman's struggle for independence under the direction of London-based filmmaker Alshanova. In Exile, Hmili paints a haunting picture of grief and resilience set inside Tunisia's largest steel factory, where four workers grappling with physical and mental trauma are bound together by the mysterious disappearance of a colleague. The Red Sea Film Foundation said that they are proud in supporting these projects and hailed their inclusion at Locarno as a major achievement for regional cinema and emerging talent.

Eiza González Called Grigor Dimitrov the ‘Love of My Life' After His Wimbledon Injury

In March 2024, Eiza González told InStyle she had 'sort of given up' on dating. But that didn't last long as just over a year later, she described tennis player Grigor Dimitrov as 'the man of my dreams.' González and Dimitrov were first linked in April 2025, when they were seen holding hands after González attended one of his matches during the Madrid Open. By May, they had made their red carpet debut together at Cannes, and shared coordinated posts on Instagram that confirmed their relationship. Since then, González has shown steady support for the tennis pro both online and in-person, attending his matches and publicly cheering him on. Below, a full timeline of their relationship so far. On April 26, González was seen attending one of Dimitrov's matches at the Madrid Open. During the third round of the Madrid Open, González was filmed leaning over the stands post-match to congratulate Dimitrov. In a fan video shared on X, she can be heard saying, 'Amazing, baby, amazing.' Actress Eva Longoria was also seen with her at the event. Just a few days later, on April 30, the two were seen walking hand in hand during an evening stroll in Madrid. On May 15, they made their public debut at the Red Sea Film Foundation's Women In Cinema gala during the Cannes Film Festival. González wore a Ludovic de Saint Sernin gown from the designer's fall 2025 ready-to-wear collection, while Dimitrov opted for a black suit. Though neither had commented publicly on the relationship, the event served as their first official appearance as a couple. The next day, González shared photos from Cannes on Instagram to celebrate Dimitrov's 34th birthday, confirming their relationship in the caption: 'Happiest bday to the man of my dreams,' she wrote. '@grigordimitrov you're one of one. You truly are my absolutely favorite human, and I can't believe I've been lucky enough to find you. You've restored so much in me I didn't think was possible. To the kindest, most thoughtful, and caring man. I admire every inch of the human you are and are becoming. I cannot wait to celebrate many, many more. I love you G. ❤️' Serena Williams, Sofia Vergara, and Naomi Campbell were among the celebrities to comment on the post. At the New York premiere of her Apple TV+ film Fountain of Youth on May 19, González was asked about Dimitrov during an interview with Extra. 'He's so sweet. It's so nice. He's always so supportive of me and he's very excited. He's obviously in tournament right now, so he can't be here. But yeah, I'm just super grateful for him,' she said. She also joked about avoiding the tennis court herself: 'I'm definitely not getting better, and I'm avoiding the whole, 'Let's go play together.' I'm sort of like, 'Yeah, sure! Later. I'm just not feeling it today.'' Ahead of the French Open, González was photographed watching Dimitrov's practice session with Jannik Sinner on May 21. During a fourth-round match at Wimbledon against Sinner, Dimitrov suffered an injury and was forced to retire mid-match. González shared a message of support on her Instagram Stories shortly after. She wrote, 'Love of my life. I couldn't be more proud of you. You are BEYOND outstanding. This is just a moment that will pass and will make you even stronger. But watching you today alongside the world was a reminder of who YOU are. You're a winner. We all saw it. And you'll do it again. ❤️ I love you @grigordimitrov.' She also left a comment on Wimbledon's post about the injury, writing, 'A WINNER. He will build an even better story. Stronger inside and out. ❤️'
