Ngāti Porou CEO George Reedy resigns after four years

His resignation will take effect on August 1, Te Rūnanganui o Ngāti Porou (Tronp) confirmed. Reedy served as chief executive across four of the group's entities: Tronp, Ngāti Porou Oranga and Toitū Ngāti Porou. Mayor Rehette Stoltz said she had the utmost respect for Reedy and his departure from the role would be a significant loss for the region. Council chief executive Nedine Thatcher-Swann said it had been a privilege to work alongside Reedy, and on behalf of council staff she wished him "all the very best in whatever comes next". "It is not often you cross paths with someone whose leadership blends mana, humility and sharp strategic thinking, and that's the kind of leader George Reedy is." Reedy was instrumental in forging a strong relationship between the Rūnanganui and council, she said. His leadership was evident through joint efforts in regional economic development planning and civil defence emergency management, "spaces where trust and collaboration matter most", Thatcher Swann said. Reedy's vision and drive led to the creation of over 150 new jobs and a significant increase in their contracted income, Ngati Porou Tiamana (chairman) Patrick Tangaere said in a statement. "It is with both gratitude and regret that I announce the resignation." Under Reedy's leadership, the iwi navigated "some of the most challenging and turbulent periods", including the Covid-19 pandemic and cyclones Hale and Gabrielle, he said. "George played a pivotal role in the establishment of Ngāti Porou Oranga and the expansion of health, housing and social services for our whānau and communities of Te Tairāwhiti." Tangaere also acknowledged Reedy's role in strengthening Ngāti Porou's strategic relationships with local and national iwi, across government and with other key stakeholders. Reedy left Napier to come home and take up the position, he said. "It was a powerful expression of his service to his iwi, reaffirming his dedication to the people and whenua of Te Tairāwhiti," Tangaere said. The statement did not give a reason for Reedy's resignation. Reedy has been approached for comment. East Coast National MP Dana Kirkpatrick said it had been a privilege to work alongside Reedy, having known him for a few years. They had been delighted with the work he had overseen at the Puhi Kai Iti Community Health Centre, and recently with creating its urgent and after-hours care, which was significant for the people of Ngāti Porou and the region, she said. Reedy Lagoon pinpoints gold targets at Central Wheatbelt project
Reedy Lagoon has pinpointed eight priority targets for drilling at its Burracoppin gold project in Western Australia's Central Wheatbelt. The targets span four prospects, allowing the company to leverage detailed magnetic data and recent extensive soil sampling ahead of a planned reverse circulation drilling program slated for later this year. Burracoppin sits along the extensive Yandina shear zone, just 20km from the prolific Edna May gold mine. The project covers 241 square kilometres with about 30km strike length of gold-prospective shear. The shear includes four of Reedy's prospects - Lady Janet, Windmills, Shear Luck and Zebra. The company says that by integrating geophysical surveys with fine-fraction soil sampling, it has pinpointed zones where gold anomalies align with interpreted geological structures, boosting confidence in the project's potential to host significant gold mineralisation. Reedy has identified two key targets at Lady Janet, building on historical workings from the early 1900s. One target features an 800-metre-long gold anomaly overlying an interpreted mafic unit and shear zone. The anomaly extends over a 1km strike and features a historic whiff from drilling of 1m at 1.7 grams per tonne (g/t). At Windmills, the company says it has delineated two 500m-long targets to the north and south along a northeast-trending structure spanning more than 2km. Reedy believes a tight correlation between gold-in-soil anomalies and geophysical structures at Windmills makes its two priority targets well-primed for drilling to test their bedrock potential. The Zebra prospect, about 4km east of the Yandina shear zone, hosts three high-confidence targets, each with a featured gold anomaly. Along with its Shear Luck prospect, the company believes that pathfinder antimony could point towards a potential exploration kicker, given antimony prices are at all-time highs. Burracoppin benefits from its prime location, midway between Perth and Kalgoorlie on the Great Eastern Highway, in a region renowned for gold production. The Edna May mine, 20km northeast, has produced more than 1 million ounces of gold, while the Tampia mine lies 60km in the opposite direction. The project's 30km shear zone is largely underexplored, offering Reedy a rare opportunity to uncover exciting new greenfield gold deposits. The company says it is preparing for a maiden reverse circulation drilling program to test its eight new targets, as soon as funding, heritage surveys, access agreements and drill permits are finalised. It is actively maintaining its Burracoppin iron project on the same tenure, while exploration at its magnetite deposit will take a back seat as Reedy waits for more favourable market conditions and a stronger iron ore price. With gold prices trading near historic highs, Reedy Lagoon's Burracoppin project is well-positioned to capitalise on a WA gold boom. The identification of eight drill-ready targets, backed by rigorous geophysical and geochemical data, marks a turning point for the company as it becomes a fully fledged greenfields gold explorer. Smyth County bridge named for slain deputy
SMYTH COUNTY Va. (WJHL) — Monday marked ten months since Smyth County Deputy Hunter Reedy was killed in the line of duty. Virginia Gov. Glen Younkin signed a bill naming a Smyth County bridge in honor of Deputy Hunter D. Reedy. In a packed room at the Smyth County Sheriff's Office, Younkin said he hoped it would serve as a constant reminder of the sacrifice made. 'Deputy Reedy went to work to serve people in Smyth County, and he didn't come home,' Youngkin said. 'And it is so important that we stop for a minute and not only recognize the heroic work of our law enforcement personnel all over the Commonwealth but also their families.' The bridge, along State Route 11, or Adwolf Road, crosses over Interstate 81. The location wasn't randomly chosen. It's a special road, says Reedy's widow Bettina. 'This is a bridge that leads to the farm where we got married,' Bettina said. '(It leads to) where he was raised. It is a huge connection for us. And so for it to have that bridge. It is an honor.' Bettina and the couple's three children along with several other family members and dignitaries from across the Commonwealth were at Monday's ceremony, including Del. Israel O'Quinn and Attorney General Jason Miyares. Miyares said the ceremony was not just about Reedy's death, but his life. 'The impact to this community when we lost one of our heroes and not just honoring not just how he died, but how he lived every day protecting his fellow Virginian,' Miyares said. Smyth County Sheriff Chip Shuler called these past ten months a new normal for Smyth County- the time after 'evil came to their community.' 'We'll never be the same. Huge hole left in everybody's heart, plus our ranks,' Shuler said. 'So, yeah, we just try to go one day at a time. And we're moving forward. We're taking care of business like we're supposed to do.' 'One day at a time' is also how Bettina describes life, but through the sadness, she says she's still blessed with support from the governor and the community. 'Nobody's forgotten. We still have people with us and an outpouring of support, still,' she said.
