St. Paul police investigating after driver strikes, gravely injures 7-year-old
St. Paul police say a young child is gravely injured after being hit by a car late Wednesday evening. The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of White Bear Avenue and Fifth Street, according to the St. Paul Police Department. Upon arrival, officers started life-saving measures for the 7-year-old before St. Paul fire medics took over and then transported the child to Regions Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle showed no signs of impairment and is cooperating with officers, police say. He was released from the scene after talking to investigators. The incident remains under investigation.

2 hurt when dozens of shots are fired at party in St. Paul, police say
More than 30 shots were fired at a party in St. Paul, Minnesota, overnight, leaving two men hospitalized with injuries, police said. The St. Paul Police Department said its officers responded to Regions Hospital just after midnight on Saturday after two men showed up there with gunshot wounds. Both were conscious and breathing and should survive. Police learned the shooting occurred at a party at Central Avenue and Avon Street. Officers interviewed witnesses and are working to learn who fired shots and why. No arrests have been made. Regions Hospital was briefly locked down due to "the amount of people arriving related to this incident," police said, but the lockdown has since been lifted.

Police in St. Paul are searching for a double hit-and-run driver who rear-ended a vehicle and then struck a pedestrian while fleeing Tuesday night. Police tell Bring Me The News that the double hit-and-run started around 10:50 p.m. when the driver of a Nissan Sentra rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection of Johnson Parkway and 7th St. The driver of the vehicle that was rear-ended followed the Nissan driver as they fled, later striking a woman near the intersection of Phalen Boulevard and Johnson Parkway. Again, the Nissan driver fled the scene. The following vehicle stopped, with the driver calling 911 while the passenger cared for the woman, who was unresponsive and is now in critical condition at Regions Hospital. The suspect wound up abandoning the Nissan at the intersection of Phalen Boulevard and Maryland Avenue. The suspect's whereabouts are unknown as of Wednesday morning. St. Paul police looking for hit-and-run driver who critically injured pedestrian
Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck and critically injured a pedestrian Tuesday night in St. Paul. Officers were called about 10:50 p.m. and were told that a Nissan Sentra rear-ended a vehicle at Johnson Parkway and East Seventh Street, said Sgt. Toy Vixayvong, a St. Paul police spokesman. The Nissan's driver didn't stop, and the driver of the vehicle that was struck followed. About half a mile away, the Nissan hit a pedestrian in the area of Phalen Boulevard and Johnson Parkway. The Nissan left the area. The driver who followed the Nissan called 911 and their passenger began life-saving measures for the pedestrian, Vixayvong said. The pedestrian was unresponsive and St. Paul Fire Department medics took the woman to Regions Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Nissan was abandoned at Maryland Avenue and Phalen Boulevard. Police set up a perimeter with K-9 tracking and assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter. They did not find the suspect. The Nissan had not been reported as stolen and police are working to determine who was driving it, Vixayvong said. Maplewood shooting: St. Paul man fired on car while kids cowered nearby, charges say
A man with a history of gun convictions was charged Friday with attempted murder, accused of opening fire in Maplewood while two juveniles cowered in fear nearby. Officers responded to an apartment building parking lot at Larpenteur Avenue and McMenemy Street about 5:55 p.m. on April 16. A child had just exited a bus and was waiting to be buzzed into an apartment building when the shooting happened. Surveillance video showed a Chevrolet Malibu entered the lot and drove past a gold vehicle. The shooter got out of the Chevrolet, pulled out a handgun and fired three volleys at the other vehicle. Police found 18 spent casings in the parking lot. 'The volleys were in rapid succession and the video's audio suggests that there was a trigger activator on the handgun making it fully automatic,' the complaint said. Video also showed the child from the bus and another juvenile were in fear as they tried to get into the building. A passenger from the gold sedan got into the driver's seat, drove to Regions Hospital and dropped off a 22-year-old man. The man was treated for gunshot wounds to his left shoulder and left leg. He did not want to talk to police, the complaint said. After law enforcement identified the license plate on the Chevrolet, police pulled over the vehicle on April 22 in Minneapolis. They found Muhnee Jaleel Bailey, 24, of St. Paul, was driving. Bailey was on release from the Federal Bureau of Prisons to a halfway house in Minneapolis, according to the complaint. He pleaded guilty in March 2023 to a federal charge of possession of a firearm as felon. On the day of the shooting, Bailey returned to the house wearing clothes that matched the shooter's, the complaint said of surveillance footage. He was wearing a sweatshirt that said, 'In Glock We Trust.' Police learned that Bailey and a woman resided in St. Paul, and they carried out a search warrant at the residence on Aurora Avenue near Central Village Park. The woman told police that she has a permit to carry and owns a handgun; she said she wasn't aware of other firearms in the bedroom. Police arrested Bailey on Wednesday. The Ramsey County Attorney's Office charged him with second-degree intentional attempted murder (not premediated), drive-by shooting and four counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited due to a conviction for a crime of violence. In addition to the federal case, Bailey has been convicted of possession of a pistol without a permit, possession of a trigger activator, drive-by shooting and fleeing police in a vehicle, the complaint said.
