Non-profit leader, military spouse, volunteer, & 2025 Remarkable Women finalist

BOSSIER CITY, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Emily Jo Manchester-Sanden has worked her way from intern to executive director of the Renesting Project, a non-profit community furniture bank. The organization gathers and distributes gently used furniture and household items for those in need in Northwest Louisiana. 'I really believe in the dignity of the human spirit and the collective power of community,' Manchester-Sanden shared. 'Those are the things I try to live my life thinking about, and those are things we believe in at Renesting.' 'She loves what she does. She doesn't do it to be recognized,' said her husband, Cory Sanden. 'She will make sure someone living on the street is more taken care of than she is. She loves everyone. It doesn't matter who they are. She'll put them before her 100% of the time.' Meet the 2025 Remarkable Women Finalists That extends outside of work. Emily Jo volunteers for several other organizations, including Keep Bossier Beautiful, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, which builds beds for children in need, and the Barksdale Spouses Club, which supports military families. In addition to being married to an airman, Emily Jo grew up in a military family and moved around a lot as a child before attending a Catholic university, which required community service each year. 'It's been kind of these building blocks in my life of meeting diverse people, realizing that not everybody had the privilege that I have and wanting to serve my community,' said Manchester-Sanden. Bobbie Jane Livers nominated her sister as a Remarkable Woman finalist, inspired by all she does for those in need. Livers said she has learned so much from her sister. 'That it's okay to be vulnerable and help people,' shared Livers. 'I've never been one to volunteer, and she's definitely brought that out of me. She's just like my built-in friend, and I thank God for her.' Emily Jo says everyone has something to give. 'Just spending time with someone, that ministry of presence, being a presence with somebody can make a huge difference,' explained Manchester-Sanden. 'We're nothing without each other. It takes a village to do any good, and I'm just proud to be a part of that village.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Remarkable Women: Meet your 2025 winner!

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — During Women's History Month in March, WesternSlopeNow introduced you to four remarkable women living on the Western Slope who make our community a wonderful place to live. We asked you to nominate outstanding women on the Western Slope for an award — one of those submissions stood out the most. Tonya Maddox is this year's Remarkable Woman. Tonya Maddox is the founder and CEO of Our Town Matters, a marketing, PR and events firm that works with small and mid-sized businesses. 'This is America and entrepreneurship is something to be valued and put on a pedestal,' Maddox said. Our Town Matters has worked with about 45 total companies over the last seven years, most of them on the Western Slope. 'It has been the most rewarding experience ever.' She is also the founder and publisher of the Montrose Business Times. 'Publishing and journalism is in my blood. And it is something I haven't been able to get away from. So my history is when newspapers are in trouble, they call me.' Maddox says Our Town Matters has allowed her to help businesses in ways she never thought possible, especially during COVID. 'There were five of us that got together and said, we're going to create this program that would put revenue back into restaurants and allow people to still go out and enjoy meals, whether it's out there in the restaurant with limited capacity or to take home. And this little group of ours, we raised, I think, a quarter of a million dollars, and all of that went back to restaurants… It's more than marketing, PR and events, it's just it's… it's a culture.' Maddox tells WesternSlopeNow her favorite part of Our Town Matters is its impact on the businesses it serves. 'When we find that business that said you made a difference, I wouldn't be here three years later, five years later, or whatever… that just means a lot to me.' Maddox says being named Remarkable Woman has inspired her. 'All I want to continue to do is to recognize other people, to help businesses, to make a difference in my community. And this has given me like, I don't know, this energizer pill to keep doing that for another nine years, and then another nine years, and another nine years.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. 2025 Remarkable Women Winner: Rachel Leslie

FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local leader who teaches, supports, and helps new leaders succeed is the 2025 Remarkable Woman of the year for the Wabash Valley. Every year, WTWO holds a Remarkable Women contest. Viewers are asked to nominate a remarkable woman they know. After receiving dozens of nominations, a panel of judges chose Rachel Leslie as the 2025 winner. 2025 Remarkable Women nominee: Erica Arnold Leslie is the founder of RJL Solutions. The company started with an office in Terre Haute and has grown to include offices in Indianapolis and Evansville. 'When she started putting all of these great young leaders around her, and they got excited, it just ballooned to what it is today,' said Rick Burger with Duke Energy. 2025 Remarkable Women nominee: Lauren Alexander Among the things Leslie's company does is help local governments and organizations make connections with state and federal lawmakers. It allows a community's wants and needs be known, and in return, those needs can hopefully be met. 'It's really nice to have a partner in everything we're working on, and that's what Rachael provides,' said President and CEO of the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce Kristin Craig. 2025 Remarkable Women nominee: Kim Cooper Besides helping communities and organizations achieve their goals, Leslie also helps her friends make their dreams come true. Susan Turner is the Director of the Terre Haute Children's Museum. Nearly a decade ago, she received the news that it would be very difficult for her and her husband to ever have a baby. 'I went to Rachel and I told her what the doctors had said and I said, I don't know how we're ever going to afford to adopt a baby because it's really expensive and she said, don't worry about the money, we'll figure it out,' explained Susan Turner. 2025 Remarkable Women nominee: Meredith Osburn Turner says Leslie held a fundraiser at her house. The $3,000 raised was seed money Turner and her husband needed to adopt Max. He became their son at four days old and that was more than 7 years ago. It was for all of these things and many others that Rachel Leslie was nominated as a Remarkable Woman. 'It's not something that you don't think is going to happen during your lifetime,' added Rachel Leslie. As the winner of WTWO's Remarkable Women contest, $1,000 will be donated to the charity of Leslie's choice. She will also be flown to Los Angeles, to be part of the National Remarkable Women's contest sponsored by Nexstar Broadcasting. The winner of the national contest gets $25,000 donated to a charity of her choice. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
