Husband Says He Doesn't Want Wife Using Baby Name He 'Secretly' Hates Because It Sounds Like a 'Forest Fairy'
A man says he "hates" the name his wife wants to use for their future child, but waited so long to tell her that she is now mad In a post on Reddit, he writes that he held off on telling the woman he dislikes the name, "because I didn't want to kill her vibe" But now, he feels he has to offer up his opinion, adding, "I want our daughter to have a name that'll command respect in a boardroom, not at a Renaissance Faire"A man says he "secretly hates" the name his wife wants to use for their future child, writing in a Reddit post that the name sounds like something out of a "Renaissance Faire." "We've both been throwing around names for a while, but there's one she's been dead set on ever since we found out we were having a girl: 'Elowyn,' " the anonymous 35-year-old writes in the post. "She says it's 'magical and lyrical' and reminds her of a forest fairy or something." He continues: "I've been nodding along because I didn't want to kill her vibe, pregnancy hormones and all, but honestly, I can't stand it. It sounds like a name someone would give their Dungeons & Dragons character. I want our daughter to have a name that'll command respect in a boardroom, not at a Renaissance Faire." He writes that last week, he finally told his wife that he isn't comfortable with the name. "I suggested alternatives that are still beautiful but more grounded (like Claire or Julia), and she got really upset. She accused me of 'waiting too long' to say something and said I'd been 'deceptive.' I told her I was trying to be supportive and avoid unnecessary stress, but that this is my child too," he writes. Now, his wife isn't speaking to him, other than to say she is 'mourning" the name. "I get that pregnancy is emotional, but that feels a bit theatrical to me," he writes. "I told her we still have 21 weeks to decide and that maybe this is a sign to keep looking." He then asks if he's wrong "for holding my ground and not wanting to name my daughter something that sounds like a Tolkien side character?" While many commenters agree that the name is not their favorite, some are also chiding the man for not being honest sooner. "Why would you not just be honest from the beginning? That makes no sense to hide your feelings from your partner, especially about something they seem dead set on and you are adamantly against," wrote one. Added another commenter: "Naming a baby is like making one: both parties need to agree or it shouldn't happen. The best time to say no might have been earlier, but the second best time is right now. In September, Burton shared a series of photos as she took her son Augustus and daughter George back to school shopping — but instead of going to "the mall or Target," Burton brought her kids to Spirit Halloween and the New York Renaissance Faire. The proud mom could be seen smiling with her kids in one photo, all three posing in costumes. Donning a blue dress with a sparkly cape, George posed in front of different booths at the Renaissance Faire, while Gus opted for a leather shoulder covering and billowy shirt. "I suppose some families go back to school shopping at the mall or Target," Burton began her caption. "We opted for the @spirithalloween store and the @newyorkrenaissancefaire this weekend." Thousands attend Renaissance Faire Spring Fling weekend
DES MOINES, Iowa — Thousands of people are attending the first weekend of the Renaissance Faire Spring Fling. The event takes place at Sleepy Hollow in Des Moines, and takes visitors back in time to the medieval era through different performances, vendors, and food. This year, one main attraction is Ironside Axe Club, a local axe throwing business based in West Des Moines. People can learn how to throw axes, knives, spears, and more. The Pirate King and Queen are back this year and they will be leading a joust. The Renaissance Faire is located at 4051 Dean Avenue in Des Moines. Gates open at 10 a.m. and performances start at 10:30 a.m. The first performance on Sunday will be from The Cockatoo Encounter at the Main Castle Stage. They will be selling paintings made by the cockatoos to raise money for the species. Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate. For more information on tickets, click here. DMPD says woman abandoned pets, one who was found dead, after eviction
DES MOINES, Iowa – A Des Moines woman has been arrested on multiple charges related to animal neglect, after allegedly abandoning two cats and a bearded dragon when police said she was evicted. One of the cats didn't survive. Madison Cherry, 23, is being held in the Polk County Jail on two charges each of abandonment of cats and dogs with serious injury or death and animal neglect with serious injury or death. She is also charged with one count of animal neglect. She was arrested on Tuesday. Marshalltown man charged with arson for allegedly setting multiple fires Criminal complaints filed in March in the case said apartment management found the animals in a unit at 1800 Watrous Avenue. One of the cats was already dead and the other was in poor body condition. A bearded dragon was also located in a glass tank. None of the animals had access to food or water and the complaint said the deceased cat likely died of dehydration. An examination of the surviving cat by a veterinarian found 'signs of severe neglect and dehydration.' It scored a 2/9 on the Purina Body Condition System. Cherry's bond is set at $100,000. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for May 15th.
