Explained: Why the Renault Triber does not get a turbo petrol engine
Renault India recently introduced the Triber facelift, bringing comprehensive upgrades to the subcompact SUV. However, Renault did not bring any mechanical upgrades to the car, and it now appears the Triber won't be getting one either. Potential buyers were anticipating a more powerful turbo petrol engine on the Renault Triber facelift. However, there are no mechanical upgrades to the car, and it now appears the Triber won't be getting one either. Why The Renault Triber Does Not Get A Turbo Petrol Engine Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Renault Triber facelift launch, Venkatram Mamillapalle, Managing Director, Renault India, explained why the Triber can't have the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine from the Kiger. Turns out the engine bay on the Triber has been designed to be compact enough to accommodate the smallest engine possible. This was done specifically to maximise cabin space, which is the USP of the vehicle. Renault does offer a more powerful turbo petrol unit on the Kiger SUV The Renault Triber is the only three-row offering in the sub-4-metre segment, and to achieve the same, the automaker had to resort to clever engineering to ensure a larger cabin. In order to accommodate a turbo petrol motor, Renault will have to redesign the engine bay, compromising on cabin space, negating the whole point of the subcompact MPV. The cost of re-engineering the engine bay and homologating the same would be another deterrent for Renault India, given the Triber's cost-conscious pricing. For those expecting a more powerful Triber, this would be disappointing news. The power from the motor has been the Achilles heel of the MPV, especially with the AMT unit. However, most buyers looking at the Triber prioritise space and the extra seats over performance. The model gets generous legroom in the second row, thanks to its tall stance, while the third row is best suited for children. Moreover, the third row seats are completely removable, liberating a massive boot capacity of 625 litres, which can be further expanded with the foldable second row. The Renault Triber facelift gets a redesigned front as well as rear, along with a host of new features 2025 Renault Triber Facelift: What's New The 2025 Renault Triber facelift has received extensive changes. The Triber is quite popular in Tier II and III markets, and the latest update should help more buyers looking for a budget people mover to consider the model more seriously. The 2025 Renault Triber comes with visual and functional enhancements
The Renault Triber has built a strong reputation in India for offering genuine seven-seat flexibility within a sub-four-metre footprint—an achievement that remains unmatched in its price bracket. With this facelift, Renault hasn't altered the core formula but has added just enough visual and functional enhancements to make it more appealing to both new buyers and those looking to upgrade. The front end sees the most noticeable changes. The bonnet is now more sculpted and squared-off, giving the car a slightly more assertive stance. A redesigned grille with unique slot patterns is flanked by sleek new LED headlamps, which help give the vehicle a more premium, upmarket look. While the side profile remains largely the same, the 15-inch alloy wheels now feature a fresh design. At the rear, the updated LED tail lamps and revised tailgate lend a cleaner, more contemporary appearance. Inside, Renault has focused on improving perceived quality and user experience. The dashboard has been mildly redesigned, and the cabin now includes an upgraded 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A wireless charging pad and a centrally positioned engine start-stop button add to the list of modern conveniences. The fabric upholstery gets new colour combinations that enhance the cabin's visual appeal, and the seats feel noticeably plusher than before. Space In terms of space, the Triber continues to deliver. The second row offers good legroom and headroom, although its narrow width means it's more comfortable for two passengers rather than three. The third row remains tight and is best suited for children or short trips, but Renault's modular seating design—allowing the last row to be folded or completely removed—ensures the Triber retains its hallmark practicality. Under the hood, the powertrain is unchanged. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine continues to deliver 71 PS and 96 Nm of torque. While an upgrade to a turbocharged unit would have been welcome, especially in light of the added weight from new features, Renault maintains that performance isn't a priority for this customer base. The Triber is designed around space, flexibility, and ease of use—traits it continues to deliver reliably. This facelift also debuts Renault's new double diamond logo in India, signalling the beginning of a new brand identity. Given the Triber's past success, the updated model should find continued traction, especially among value-conscious buyers looking for maximum versatility. Pricing for the updated Renault Triber ranges from ₹6.30 lakh to ₹8.64 lakh (ex-showroom). Motorscribes, in association with The Hindu, brings you the latest in cars and bikes.
