Cory McClenathan Not Closing Door on Return to NHRA Competition
All-time racing great Cory McClenathan is still active in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series. Sure, the 34-time NHRA Top Fuel winner and four-time season championship runner-up hasn't raced in the category since losing his ride in 2020. And, sure, McClenathan is 62 years old. But that doesn't mean he doesn't still check his phone and his emails for a call asking him to get back in the game. These days, the closest McClenathan gets to the cockpit of a race car is through a five-year partnership of his current business—Reno, Nev.-based RevChem Composites—with Kalitta Motorsports. McClenathan was at Kalitta HQ in Ypsilanti, Mich., this past Thursday to participate in a Business-to-Business Summit with fellow Kalitta Motorsports Partners. "I last raced in 2020 during Covid," McClenathan said. "We did like five races at Indianapolis that year." The two-time U.S. Nationals winner would love to get back out there. "I try to keep my ties," McClenathan said. "It's not like I'm too old to drive a race car. If something was to come up, I think I'd do it. But really, I got tired of chasing the money myself, trying to do it all myself." In a perfect world, McClenathan says he'd love to find a partial-season ride. He's not interested in going to a new team or helping a fledgling team figure it out. "At first, I was going to people who had new teams," he said. "Let's get the car figured out. A guy like me could help. That got old after a while, and I finally decided that unless I'm doing three or four of five races in a row or in a year type of thing, I wasn't interested. "There's no way I could go back to it full time. I have a house, I have a job, I have a daughter, my mother. If the right thing came along and came up and it was the right deal, I'd take it. "I still have the competitive spirit. I can still drive one. I'm not too heavy to get into a dragster. So, for now, the drag racing fix will have to be as a business partner to Kalitta Motorsports. "I enjoy this," he said. "I can see my friends. I get to see all the sponsors. Scott Kalitta and I were really good friends. I have a lot of friends here." McClenathan says that if he did get another opportunity, there's still room for guys like him in the sport. "Kids with money, kids with parents with a lot of money, are the ones coming into the sport," he said. "Some eventually end up getting sponsors. Fans like seeing some of the good rookie drivers that have come up, but for the most part, a lot of people miss us old guys." And McClenathan misses the action. "I got replaced by a guy—Spencer Massey—that could leave the starting line and who had money in his pocket," McClenathan said. " I'm one of those guys who could be back at any time if the right thing happened. "It's nice to see guys like me come back for five, six races. It brings my old fans back and it gives the NHRA something to talk about." In the meantime, McClenathan keeps checking those messages. "Always, always," he said. "I never let that go."

Best Cheap Mattresses on Walmart for 2025
A glimpse into one of the large storage spaces at our testing facility. Aly Lopez/CNET CNET's team of sleep experts has spent years testing, reviewing, cutting open and researching beds. Collectively, we've tested well over 300 beds. All the testing happens in our 6,000-square-foot mattress warehouse in Reno, Nevada, which includes two mock bedrooms we use to film our reviews and test beds. Our testing approach to mattresses is very hands-on and involves analyzing a bed's construction, feel and firmness. We make sure every bed gets multiple points of view from our entire team to ensure we're best representing different genders, body types and sleeper needs. Firmness and feel The Mattress Smasher tests the firm side of the Plank Firm mattress. Aly Lopez/CNET The first and arguably most important factor we look for when we test a bed is how it feels and how firm it is. These are some of the most subjective factors in mattress testing. They depend on your body weight or how much pressure you put on the bed. Through the years, we've found that our experience doesn't always match a brand's website. To test firmness, we have every lie on the bed in different positions, compiling the data to compare it to other beds we've tested. We note how it feels on our backs, and pressure points like the shoulders, hips and knees. Once we feel comfortable with our experience with the bed and have recorded our subjective firmness, we pass the bed off to the Mattress Smasher 9000. The MS9k is a proprietary machine built by the CNET Labs team. This gives us an objective numerical value for firmness across every bed we test. Motion isolation I often describe motion isolation as how well a bed dampens movement across the surface, aka, can you feel someone move around next to you? This is a huge factor that couples need to consider when choosing their next bed. To test motion isolation, I would lie on the bed and close my eyes while someone else moved around on the other side of the bed. Then, I'd rate how much I can feel their movement. Testing the motion isolation with a glass of water on the end and flopping around. It passed. Dillon Lopez/CNET Next, we perform the classic water glass test. It involves setting a glass of water on the edge of a bed and rolling toward and away from it. We note how much the water sloshes in the glass. Traditionally, memory foam tends to do the best in this area. Edge support Edge support refers to the strength of the bed's perimeter. This is important for people who sleep on the edge of the bed or have mobility issues that make it difficult to get in and out of bed. To test a bed's edge support, we lie on the edge and measure how much it compresses under our weight. It receives a low score if it feels like we might slide off. Hybrid beds with reinforced edges tend to do the best in this area. Temperature Temperature control is one of the most sought-after features in mattresses. Hot sleepers need cooling tech to ensure their body heat doesn't interrupt their sleep. Unfortunately, there is no threshold that mattresses must reach for a brand to slap a cooling label on a bed. In my experience, only a handful of beds are actually going to move the needle in this area. Most are just marketing. Part of the testing includes removing the mattress cover and analyzing its interior construction and materials. Dillon Lopez/CNET While testing a bed, we rank its cooling and note what cooling features are included in the construction, like a special cover or gel-infused foam layers. Some beds, like Purple, have an interesting construction that helps them sleep temperature-neutral, which is good for hot sleepers, but I don't consider it to be truly cooling. We also test beds in a temperature-controlled room to ensure we're always getting a consistent experience across beds.

Diamondbacks place infielder Ildemaro Vargas (foot) on 10-day IL
Jun 26, 2025 02:10 AM IST The Arizona Diamondbacks' list of injured players this season grew longer with the placement of infielder Ildemaro Vargas on the 10-day IL on Wednesday because of a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot. HT Image Vargas was hit on the foot by a pitch from the Chicago White Sox's Mike Vasil during the second inning of the visiting Diamondbacks' 4-1 victory on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, Arizona recalled infielder Blaze Alexander from Triple-A Reno. The Diamondbacks' recent injuries also include third baseman Eugenio Suarez, who was hit on the right hand by a pitch during a game on Monday against the White Sox and sustained a contusion. X-rays were negative on Suarez, who sat out games on Tuesday and Wednesday. The ballclub plans to have him undergo an MRI once the swelling in the hand goes down. Arizona first baseman Josh Naylor was also injured Monday with a right shoulder strain and missed Tuesday's game before playing on Wednesday. All- Star outfielder Corbin Carroll was hit on his left wrist on June 18 and went on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday (retroactive to Saturday) with a chip fracture. Vargas, who initially replaced Suarez in the lineup, is batting .286 (8-for-28) with one home run and four RBIs in 10 games. The 33-year-old is a career .247 hitter with 18 homers and 130 RBIs in 430 games for five organizations. He started his major league career with the Diamondbacks from 2017-20 before returning during the 2021 season and this year. Alexander, 26, appeared in 61 games with Arizona in 2024 and batted .247 with three homers and 21 RBIs. He was batting .284 with eight homers and 41 RBIs in 54 games for Reno this season. --Field Level Media
